How often do you weigh yourself?

    I'm with Scooter and Juli as well...When i was weighing daily, that number ont he scale would determine my mood for the day, and how i treated people. If it ws higher than expected, even buy a pound or two, I would be depressed, in a horrible mood, ready to give up etc. and I was pretty difficult to be around. and it happened often enough that it became a problem IMO.

    Now i'm weighing maybe once a month..but i do measure myself every two weeks, and i also go by how my clothes feel as well.

    Maybe weighing daily works for some, but honestly I'd say once a week should be good enough to keep people motivated.

      It's a little rude to call something an obsession or an addiction if a person does it once or twice a day. I mean, you brush your teeth at least twice a day, right? Is that either of them? There's a difference between having it determine your mood, and doing it to keep yourself motivated or accountable.

            Speaking of scales... does anyone have one of those that gives you body fat readings too? I saw one on sale and am tempted to get it.

              the article that was on MSN a couple months ago that said that the scale can actually help people by weighing once a day instead of avoiding it, since they then either stay motivated to keep it up, and realize if they're starting to gain weight before they get too far gone.
              I've heard this too and I have to agree that I don't feel that weighing once a day is obsessive. Now, my DH use to weigh ten times in a row and take the average - that might be bordering on the obsessive side or maybe it's just because he's a geek

                Thanks Lyssie! I weigh everyday because it keeps me right! I tried to weigh only once a week and i didn't lose anything cause i didn't know what was going on all week with my body. It works for me, maybe not others but it does for me.

                  I weigh once or twice a week. I try not to let fluctuations bother me, but sometimes they do.

                  I evaluate my loss on a month by month basis to keep myself from getting discouraged, when I don't think the numbers are where I expect them to be.

                  I NEVER weigh before or during "that time of the month", though!

                    Dream: recovering scale addict (haha.....I burst out laughing and all my co-workers started staring at me - nice going!!)

                    Lyssie: I didn't mean to be rude. It's just that I see so many people get frustrated when the scale isn't moving and they lose their motivation. That's all I meant to say. Really it's an each to their own thing I suppose, ya know. I mean look at Joy (Validrouge) I know she weighs everyday....faithfully...she admits it. I didn't mean to say addictivie or obsessive in a mean way. I remember feeling so sad for Oh.2.b.fit (Nicole), the poor girl was weighing in after almost every meal and throughout the day, she finally stopped weighing and gave it a full week, and when she finally broke in under 300 she was so (deservingly hmm if that's a word) proud. That's all I really meant! No hard feelings!!

                    Can't we all just get a long??

                      I'd never weigh after drinking or eating. Basically wake up, go to the bathroom then weigh in. All other weigh ins are not legit IMO.

                        I'm another one that weighs in at least once daily...normally it's twice morning and night.

                        I don't obsess over the number at all. Once I start getting upset or reading into the numbers it's time to stop the daily weighing in.

                          So, for me I couldn't handle the constant weighing.
                          It made me depressed
                          But that's me.
                          Now, I only weigh once a week (Every Thursday morning cause that's the day I started). And it's hard for me. The old me wants to know what I weigh RIGHT NOW!!! I want to see, but I know me, and if I see those constant fluctuation with my weight I'd eat brownies...I really would!!! I would actually plan on having brownies every day lol.
                          So, as hard as it is for me, I stay off.
                          I also use to get on and off 10+ times, and I cut that down to 2x UNLESS it is 2 different weights...then I have to get on one more to see which one I really am *wink*

                            I try and only weigh once a week.. but often find myself weighing in at least once a day- only in the morning. SOmetimes its a motivator, sometimes a downer . I really think weighing once a week is the way to go, but it really is a matter of personal choice.

                            I keep telling myself that Im gonna put the scale away each week, but never do. I have cut down a lot since the beginning though.

                            As for the body fat percentage thingy.. my scale has one but Im not sure how accurate it is.- Mine goes up and down in drastic numbers. I measured mine this morning and it showed me a way higher number than 2 months ago even tho I was about 15 lbs heavier then. A doctor measurement of even trainers at the gym can probably provide more accurate percentages.

                              I am a little hooked on the scale as well. lol I figure its better than being hooked on the carbs. It also helps me keep in check with myself I think. My hubby thinks I need to chill a little, but he always the more patient one I think what ever works for you is okay. Just remember to not get upset if the scale moves around a few in either direction.

                              We should start a group called "the scale watchers" lol. j/k

                                I used to weigh everyday and it was a good motivator some times and upsetting sometimes. I was rereading parts of DANDAR book a couple days ago and it says in the book to not weigh everyday. I am now waiting at least 4 days at a time and trying to go for a week. I think the scale can be addictive. I know when it is a morning I don't lose I am grumpy all morning!
