LOL! This really made me laugh, because it's true. Last week when I was being lambasted for doing Atkins while trying to conceive, some know-it-all stated that "people who do Atkins put peanut butter on roast beef to up the fat content". Oh man, I cringe at the amount of misinformation about this WOE. Both of my docs (GP and Ob/Gyn) are low-carbers, have lost a good deal of weight, and reco it for patients.

I think the less people know about something, the more far fetched they resort to give an example.

Re: I think I am going off..

That's funny that you mention your OB b/c through out my entire pregnancy, by Dr told me to watch the carbs. He told me that for thanksgiving, have a second helping of the green beans or cauliflower instead of the mashed potatoes. I told him I was doing Atkins before I had become pregnant and he praised me for how wonderful a choice I had made!!

I was told not to do any form other than maintenance..which I couldn't truly do b/c I had never been beyond induction. I watched what I ate..never had ONE issue w/ my BP (which is the reason my 1st was induced and ended up an emergency c-section) and that pregnancy was a pure dream and I know it was beacuse I ate healthy. My daughter was not born cubby like my first either.

I truly believe that these OB's know that it's not just our lives...but the lives of our unborn children involved and it's SO good to see that they give good information these days

In September of 2001, my husband passed out, broke his nose, and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. It turned out it was his heart. It was so serious, they could not fly him to another hospital, nor could he sit up or stand for a minute. Then they finally were able to transport him to another hospital to a Tele Unit. Doctors considered a pace maker. After a few days in critical care unit, we were told that everything had got out of wack, but he would be OK for the time being (with pace maker down the road sometime). All this time, I was thinking that it was the Atkins diet that we had both lost 60+ pounds on. I was ready to give up the atkins plan to save my husbands life. I was blaming the Atkins diet and thinking that my husband was going to die from it. I expressed these concerns with the cardiologist and said we would stop this diet. He said, by all means, to keep doing what we were doing because that is probably what save my husband's life. He was all for the Atkins diet IF it was done correctly. I was shocked, but pleased. My husband's problems was congenital and had not shown up until that moment and had nothing to do with Atkins diet.

Any problems we have would be from us not taking care of ourselves BEFORE we started to eat and exercise the right way FOR US on Atkins. People will still get sick, regardless of what plan we follow, but it seems so easy to blame low carb life style and not the fact that we are obese before--that is what takes it's tole on our bodies and can still show up later on.

Maybe Weight Watchers will be the perfect way for you, so you should try it and go with what you feel is right for you, but I tried it WW from age 15 to 30, and it did not suit my needs. You need to go with what you believe in. Whatever you follow, best of luck to you.

Re: I think I am going off..

yeah, I did weight watchers too. I was convinced that any diet will work if you stick to it.

And they probably would - but WW allowed me to indulge my carbohydrate addiction to the max. Indulging in those made me crave more food, so I was obsessed with counting calories.

By the way, most people who get weight loss surgery do an extreme form of atkins. All protein - so the people who say that high protein diets are bad obviously do not know what they are talking about and are only repeating what we've all heard 10 million times.

This is what I found about the murky urine - surprisingly, it's not attributed to the low carb diet - at least not by the mayo clinic:

There are websites dedicated to how to turn your pee blue. I think that it can be done by drinking a large quantity of a certain flavor of kool-aid.

I also heard about a performance artist who served his guests a certain cocktail and the next day they all had blue pee as well. That was the art.

OMG not only can i not beleive that there's actually a page on how to turn your urine blue, but i can't get over how many comments are posted on it LOL.

I once threw up bright blue, I was 19 and was playing a drinking game with friends with Blueberry Shnapps. Not sure if it would have actually turned my urine blue, it never stayed in my system long enough.

Was years before I could eat anything blueberry flavoured again. It's memories like those that make me happy i'm no longer that young and stupid
