    Re: Disbelief of Atkins

    ditto to what buddyjay said.
Capemay.. if Atkins isn't for you, that's fine, but just make sure you're quitting because YOU want to and not because people are telling you it isn't healthy. You've read the book. You know better. Good luck!

      Re: Disbelief of Atkins

Capemay Eagle, just out of curiosity, was the 20-30 pounds you came here to try and lose quickly additional weight you had not lost on your untold 'other' diet, or was it 15 pound plus that you had gained since going off of that one?

edit to say - .... or am I misreading that post of yours - was the 15 pounds you lost what you lost on Atkins, "following every step"... if so: 1. How long did you stay in each phase of the diet before coming to your conclusion? What "other" diets do you know from experience work better for you... just curious...

Technically I have not stopped yet. We started this diet for lent and planned on stopping at Easter and then going back on after the holiday. She would like to stay on Atkins because it is working for her, me on the other hand, I am going to go on weight watchers core diet. I need 15 more pounds to my goal. On weight watchers I will have a few more options, breads, whole grain pastas, coffee and potatoes yes POTATOES.. I can also drink beer with my points. I just built a new bar in my home and I cannot in go in and enjoy it.

So I may stop in and visit from time to time to get recipe Ideas for my fiancee. "She hates the computer" And I do alot of the cooking... Just in case you wanted to know cocobelle, as well as you confused and need help..

Hmmm.... this expert that says he has read every page of the book and followed every step would appear not to have ever tried any part of Atkins except the initial, most restrictive phase.... LOL

capemay, i remember you from wanting to join the 20/24 challenge. missed having your update i think. that was a whirlwind week of pm's and charting for me!

anyway, i do wish you well on whatever plan of losing you choose. i too, like to see people lose and get to healthy lifestyles and if Atkins is how they choose to do it, then they have a wonderful support system here. if WW is the wol for you, then do that to the best of your ability. i wish you success with your continued weight loss.

I never claimed to be a expert, and I did read the entire book. Do you not under stand I don't care, it's not for me. I just gave my opinion and wished everyone good luck and good bye. I am now supporting my girlfriend and helping her do it correctly. Its amazing that you were able to read the book..

                Re: Disbelief of Atkins

Capemay, you have made your choice. You are right not every diet suits everyone, its a fact that all diets work as long as you stick to them. The trick is finding a diet that you can stick to.

Granted you have found that Atkins isnt for you. Good luck with your choice, and good luck to your girlfriend too.

All those foods are "fair game" in the On-Going Weight Loss Phase and the Pre-Maintenance phase of Atkins. I have a food allergy to wheat, so I avoid that, but I do eat corn (popped and on the cob), rye crackers, oatmeal, potatoes (white and sweet), various fruits (apples, oranges, pears, grapes, cherries, etc.) and I cook with beer, wine and spirits often.

Since you are 15 pounds to goal, you should have moved from Induction to On-Going Weight Loss Phase at least 5 pounds ago in order 1. to find your Critical Carbohydrate Losing Level, 2. increase the variety of foods you may eat. 3. figure out how different foods affect your body.

So I suggest that you re-read the book, especially the chapters about On-Going Weight Loss Phase and Pre-Maintenance. Forgive me for saying this, but you seem to be one of the many people who have made a critical error about this diet. Induction phase is not the entire Atkins plan. Induction phase is not the only weight loss phase. Too many people falsely believe that Induction is the entire Atkins diet. And that's unfortunate for them because I lost the majority of my weight on On-Going Weight Loss phase, eating foods like grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and starchy vegetables.

I have never been on a diet. I have gained 30 pounds over the last year. I am usually at around 230-242 which I have been since my mid to late twenty's. I went up to around 270. I started Atkins and shed about 15-17 pounds. I am currently around 254. I would like to lose 10-15 more pounds to get back to my average weight. i am just going to go a different direction to lose the remaining pounds. I never said that Atkins does not work, it does I have seen the results. Due to side affects that bother me rather than others, so I am doing a different diet to lose my remaining weight.

                        To Capemay Eagle:

I will be the first one to admit that there are very many people who lose weight on Weight Watchers. For me and many others, though, it doesn't work at all. To each his own, and I sincerely wish you well.

I also admire the fact that you are supporting your fiance who wishes to stay on Atkins. There are a lot of great ideas on this board to help a person succeed, and it is wonderful that you would read the board to help her since she doesn't care much for the computer. The thing I would like to ask of you is this - since this is a support board for the Atkins way of life, how about you just read the board for ideas rather than post about what you don't support about Atkins. I can assure you that there are support boards for Weight Watchers and I don't spend my time "talking up" Atkins on their board.

                        Fair enough?

Wishing you and your fiance genuine success in whatever plan you follow.

Yet again, I'm not sure that the person in question actually read the book. Whole grains, alcohol and starchy veggies ARE ON THE CARB LADDER. I was saying that slowly and loudly. No one cares that you're quitting, it's not for everyone, but trying to claim that these foods are not included on Atkins is just plain BS. I am one of the people that have moved up the carb ladder to whole grains and starchy veggies. Just please stop claiming that you are now moving on to these foods because you can't have them on Atkins.

Oh Cape May Eagle, my post was not for your benefit only. We have many guests and members here. And it's a disservice to them if they read that grains, potatoes, alcohol, etc. etc. are not a part of the Atkins diet. They are a part of the Atkins diet. They are not, however, allowed during the Induction phase which is only a minimum of 14 days. Prolonging Induction is really unnecessary for the vast majority of us: it doesn't guarantee 'faster' weight loss, and it doesn't guarantee that our weight loss will be permanent.

So to everyone reading this thread and who are concerned that they have to avoid fruits, starchy vegetables, legumes, and grains in order to lose weight on Atkins. Re-read your book and you'll see the truth about this diet.
