    Re: peanuts/peanut butter

Peanuts don't seem to be a problem for me, it's sunflower seeds that are dangerous. I can have them with other foods like berries and cream or as a salad garnish, but as a snack by themselves I get into trouble. I also make sure to measure.

I also had difficulty with nuts when adding them back into my woe on owl.
I had a hard time with portion control, and eating them too often, grabbing a handful here and a handful there.
I had to just about give up on buying the larger bags of nuts. I do like the Smuckers natural peanut butter. I like the oil on the top.
I'm okay with a tablespoon or so at a time. Homemade peanut butter cups are an occasional treat.

I have a food scale and prepare 1oz servings of mixed nuts in little snack size ziploc bags. 1 oz pretty much fills up the bag so I feel like I am getting a lot (oh te psychology of it all!!!) As for peanut butter...I just enjoy a big spoon of it once in a while...no cravings...and I make it last!

          Re: peanuts/peanut butter

As far as my lack of control with salted nuts goes, I've always put it down to the fact that I no longer eat potato chips, it's kind of like a replacement for them (i wasn't a big chip fan but once started couldn't stop). Unfortunately the time that i have put salted nuts out at home is usually when i've also put out chips, nachos etc for company.

I recently stopped doing this and started putting out celery sticks and pepper strips to go with dip. I think a good part of it can be psychological for me. Something cruncy to much on.

Oh..and I had never eaten a nut in my life before this woe (aside from peanut butter and chocolate covered almonds LOL)..i find that funny having such an issue with them now!

            Re: peanuts/peanut butter

The only kind of nuts I really enjoy eating anymore are plain, unsalted almonds. A month or so ago, my boyfriend and I went out of town to meet up with friends, and since there was no fridge in the room, I brought a can of mixed nuts as my snack food. UGH. I ate nuts as a snack each day, and then again when we got back to the hotel each night. I am NUTTED out! I have no desire to eat salted nuts for a LOOOOOOOOOONG time.

I've also forced myself to eat "crunchy" snack foods to make up for the nuts. I've been eating broccoli slaw and bell peppers a lot.

              Re: peanuts/peanut butter

I eat Smuckers Natural peanut butter whenever I am in a PB mood. I made a mistake and bought Skippy brand Natural yesterday without reading the ingredients.... and saw that it has sugar so I gave it to a skinny friend.

Just because it says 'Natural, 0g transfat' doesn't mean no sugar.

So I'll stick to my Smucker's Natural.

                Re: peanuts/peanut butter

just an update - I found a way to eat PB that doesn't cause me to crave yet tastes soooooo good! I make shakes in the morning a lot - vanilla using davinci, egg beaters, cream cheese, a little heavy cream, a tray of ice cubes and a little water. well today I added a tablesopoon of flax seed meal and a tablespoon of Adams PB and OMG!!!!! it was so good, totally filled me up and NO cravings afterwards - these are my new favorite, hands down!!!!!

                  Hummm,
Sounds like salt is a trigger.

                    Re: peanuts/peanut butter

I tend to go back and forth from salt to sweet esp TOM - once I get my fill of one I move to the other. this woe has helped alot with that - simply by limiting what I can have!
