    Re: This diet is disgusting!!

The diet isn't for everyone. For many it works great, for others it may do little, but it's one of the healthier diets around. Dr. Atkins himself ran a few menus of what was eaten through a Diatician's computer program. Every vitamin and nutrient needed was accounted for, give or take a few. Those were made up with a multivitamin.

If you wait long enough, you get to add fruits and wholegrains. And nope, not everything has to be in grease, in fact you can always broil things in the oven.

Hopefully you'll find a diet that better suits your needs. Everyone is different and not ever diet is suited for everyone, it's based on your needs your body has. Good luck.

        Jo,

Try shifting to an low-carb vegan diet if you want to loose weight without the meat. You can still low-carb without filling up on the meat or even cheese. Is the weight loss slower? Maybe. But I think it's a viable backup plan when you just can't eat any more meat, for whatever reason. Try the Eat to Live system or the Cornish diet..etc.., just ignore the animal rights propaganda crap, unless you are into that.

          Re: This diet is disgusting!!

Jo - I kind of understand where you were...I had reached a point - early on - where I simply could not stomach the thought of any more fat. I found that I could 'take a break' from the high fat, and it resolved itself pretty quickly (within days). Try some seafood or grilled chicken as your meat. Steamed veggies with lemon juice. (avoid iceburg lettuce, because it really doesn't contribute anything. There are better salad choices for taste and roughage). I kept cream cheese, which I blended with Splenda, vanilla, cocoa powder and a bit of heavy cream for a chocolate cheesecake mousse).

The feeling of gagging at the thought of the fat isn't unusual. (ok- maybe it is, but I guess I'm unusual like you!) Your body will adapt, and you'll crave the occasional ribeye steak (mmmmm!)

I wish you'd re-think everything. Message me, if you'd like, with questions. I was where you are.... not more than a couple of months ago! If you decide to forego the diet - I completely understand, and wish you the best of luck!

You shouldn't be miserable - life is too short. Getting through the first week IS tough - going without my chocolate was hard. I did get through it, and find that my tastes have changed. I'm more likely to crave veggies (especially when *things* aren't moving...ya know....).

Anyway - I don't think that you're strange....or weak... or anything. You can certainly do this, if that is what you want to do. We are all here to help!

                      Re: This diet is disgusting!!

Hopefully you'll find a diet that better suits your needs. Everyone is different and not ever diet is suited for everyone, it's based on your needs your body has. Good luck.
I agree with this...If this WOE isnt' for you, then you should do some reasearch and find one that is. I have a friend that is extremely successful on weight watchers, but had first tried Atkins and was very unhappy, so she failed. I was the exact opposite. Another friend has maintained her weight loss on South Beach.

This isnt' the perfect woe for everyone, we all have different needs, different tastes etc. Even in maintenance many of us ending up eating very differently even though we all followed the same woe, this can be based on where we live, ethnic foods, what we like, what we can tolerate, the amount of carbs we can handle etc.

The internet is a great place for researching different ways of eating, and finding what works for you!

Good luck in whatever you choose to follow.

                        Re: This diet is disgusting!!

But I do Atkins for years off and on and I never fry anything, I may pan sautee with olive oil but I never fry stuff. I think the way of Atkins is far healthier than anything I know. Sure the induction is a bit fatty, but it does not mean you have to eat that way your whole life LOL. that is just to kick start you into ketosis. But hey, nobody says you have to eat bacon or processed foods, there are plenty of wholesome foods to eat without eating only processed. You just did it wrong and expected it to fly off. LOL

I usually stall for months at a time and never give up

Can someone be nice to Give me a good ticker for weight loss?

                          Re: This diet is disgusting!!

                          Jo,
At 5"2 and 125, you are NOT overweight, and if you are in reasonably decent shape, you aren't overfat either. I consider Atkins to be a drastic diet, and I don't think anyone should go on a drastic diet unless they a) want to or b) need to, and you clearly don't want to and based on your stats you don't need to. Couple that with you being a vegetarian sort that is used to obtaining your nutrition from fruits, yogurt, bread, and no meat--I think it's pretty self-evident that the induction phase of Atkins is not going to mesh well with that no matter what dietary adaptions you make.

I guess I'm confused as to why you sound so angry. I know many people that have found success on Atkins will defend the diet and don't want to hear anything negative about it, that's to be expected I guess (this is an Atkin's support board more than a discuss various diets board). It's perfectly okay to hate the Atkins way of life, and I know many people that do, but keep in mind that our diets are rarely a subject of conversation. However, on the Atkins board it would be the main subject of conversation. There are quite a few diets out there designed to drop 10-15 pounds in a couple weeks. Induction of Atkins is one. There's the Mayo Clinic soup diet and a grapefruit diet you might try as well. Whichever one you choose is going to take dedication and it will be difficult and even uncomfortable the first few days as your body adjusts. Since time is key here, I don't see any way around the uncomfortable factor no matter which diet you choose, if you need to lose weight very quickly.

The Atkins plan worked for me because I was already a big meat eater. I loved cheese, too. So all I really had to do during induction was cut out the bread, starches, and sugars. But I have friends that aren't big meat eaters, they hate dairy, and they love pasta, bread, and sweets--and for them I don't think they'd do well on Atkins, especially if they aren't motivated to make that change. Either way, I don't know too many people that are on a strict diet that "love it", per se, and I don't think one is necessarily supposed to love dieting, because it always involves discipline and elimination of foods we've come to enjoy.
