  • New and a question...

    Hi All,

This is my first post on the board. I've been reading them for a little bit now, and I'm finally taking the plunge and starting this diet tomorrow. I have done the calorie counting and writing in a food journal, but it doesn't work for me. I never seem to lose more than five pounds. Also, having to write everything down all the time makes me obsess about food when I never did before! Writing everything and being conscious of eating and thinking about it all the time drove me mad and eventually to quit. So, I figure if I keep doing the same thing expecting different results - I must be crazy. My birthday was yesterday, and it's the best time to make a resolution, I think. Now I'm going to try Atkins. I admit I am HUGELY picky eater so that's why I liked the counting calories at first. I like hot dogs, but I read that you shouldn't eat them. Has anyone ever eaten the Hebrew National hot dogs? I always thought they were a little better for you. Also, if something has nitrates how can you tell? And what about things like corned beef? Are those off limits all the time? Or just during induction?

Sorry for the extremely long post. Thanks for all the help,

    Alissa

    Re: New and a question...

    first off, happy belated bday!

i would recommend that you approach atkins as a lifestyle rather than a diet. get the book on atkins and read up on it thorougly. Then, read up on this message board and see how others have succeeded with atkins. this has been my 3rd time doing atkins and it was the most sucessful of them all because of the advice i found in this board. btw i have had hebrew national during atkins and it didnt affect me. i just didnt have it with bread or sugar based spices.

if you are serious about losing 37 lbs, i would first read up and understand the material better. i really didnt during my first time and made many needless mistakes.

      Hi there Alissa!

Congrats on choosing a great way of life!

Theres a few hotdogs that arent too bad, i believe Bocks are one of those, just dont eat them every day!

I eat corned beef but be careful for the ones that are cured with sugar, always read the label!

Welcome to the board... I eat Hotdogs once in a while..mainly at cookouts and am still losing... I have had corned beef too...it just has a lot of salt and may make you retain water for a couple of days...
