  • Do you worry about parasites on Atkins?

I was listening to one of Anthony Robbins seminars about keeping your body healthy. He mentioned that if you eat alot of meat products you can have parasites in your cells. He had a test done on his wife at the time and they had a monitor where you could see what is going on in your body. They actually saw the parasite gnawing out of one of her cells...

Does anyone know more about parasites? Are parasites in all meats?

carnivore man has lived for many many years without microscoping their body's cells looking for what might be. The body has so many parasites on it anyway, I'm not gonna worry about it because maybe some of those good ones will take care of it, and if not, I doubt I'd ever know.

Unless you're eating lots of raw meat, I wouldn't worry about parasites.

Well from what I can see on the internet the only Anthony Robbins i could find is a motivational speaker, I could not find one that is a nutritionist or Dr. so i'm really not sure exactly where his expertise would come from at far as intestinal parasites.

I'm with Sally, unless you are improperly following a raw meat diet, I would worry. and even if you were eating raw meat I'm still very skeptical there is a test you can get to see the parasites coming out of your cells.

          Oh... PLEASE!

Applying logic would indicate that there is little or no danger.. As said before you may be in danger of Bacterial infection from raw or undercooked meat.. But that's not likely to happen as long as you have a refrigerator that keeps food at 41 degrees or lower.

Parasites do not live in dead flesh... and the last time I are part of a cow it was definitely dead. The same sort of nonsense is spouted all the time by my vegetarian sister in-law... Her rant is that you will end up with 10 pounds of raw meat in your intestines if you don't immediately stop eating meat.. How silly can she be? First off the human digestive system is DESIGNED to break the food down prior to entering the intestines.. There are no big hunks of meat entering the intestines. Another point that always seems to escape her is that having any food lodged in the colon or intestines can lead to infection and pretentious... Anyone with dyverticuliotus (spelling?) can attest to the pain involved. As a species we would long have been extinct if our systems were that faulty..

So, no, you aren't going to get parasites. The only exception I can think of is if you eat the brain or spinal cord from beef infected with a parasite... you can contract mad cow disease. England had some problems with it in the early 80's. Now every nation on the planet has systems in place to guard against the transmission of that disease. It's basically been wiped out.

This is just one more case of people making up things in order to manipulate or frighten people into buying what they are selling.

By the way did you know that you do have parasites living on and in your body right now? Most of them are symbiotic relationships.. Basically you NEED them to remain healthy!

Ask a real doctor about this... he'll laugh him self silly! Not at you but at TR.

Re: Do you worry about parasites on Atkins?

            Short answer: NO.

Long answer: That is SO misleading!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am an RN, and can tell that the chances are (unless his wife was drinking unfiltered pond water in which case she is an idiot) that his wife had a cyst caused by Toxoplasma gondii which, yes, can be caused by eating RAW meat but otherwise is aquired through cat feces. Almost all cat owners or even people who spend a lot of time in homes of cat owners, including myself, will become infected by the parasites, kill off 90% of them, but get a few laying latently in cysts their brains. Don't freak out, it's completly harmless and NO IT WON'T "GNAW ON YOUR BRAIN." (It can hurt fetuses though so if you're pregnant, don't change the kitty litter.) It can only harm you if you are immunocompromised ie)AIDS, chemotherapy, on loads of steroids, and even then is easily curable from simple antibiotics and very easily discovered.

So don't worry, be happy and eat meat (that's been well cooked)

I'm no scientist, but I think parasites live only in Twinkies, sugar, flour, donuts (especially powdered sugar donuts), ice cream, pizza (damn!), lemon icebox pie, Blizzards, brownies, etc, etc, etc...

This is exactly what it is!!!! This is the same scare tactics used by companies that sell 'detox' and 'internal cleansing' programs....

oh I've seen this guy before, he is a such a loser. He never answers questions straight, he double talks things and misleads people. I think that machine he uses is fake, to throw people off.

You're right Sadie. I saw when of those "colon cleansing" programs and the guy said that John Wayne died with like 25 pounds of meat in his colon and/or intestines. Well, I bought the product, thinking it just may cure a list of maladies I had (like heartburn...anyone familiar???) and then got to thinking about his statement. I did a google search for John Wayne and meat and intestines and found an article on Snopes that said it was COMPLETELY unfounded and that like one of the prior posters mentioned, if you had ANYTHING accumulating in your digestive track, you'd me in major pain.
How do those infomercials get away with such blatant lies???
I'm assuming the comments by Tony Robbins is just another falsity to get someone buying what he or his associates are selling.
