  • Eat when hungry, stop when full??!!

I know everyone is always saying to 'Eat whenever ur hungry and stop when ur full' but what if ur eating way below ur BMR....won't that make ur body go into starvation mode and just store all the fat???

Yes... you must eat enough on Atkins. Starvation mode is to be avoided at all costs. If you aren't very hungry, try eating little and often. Add some high fat things to your diet (like mayo or olive oil). It only takes a little of these to bump up the numbers.

Actually, it's until you are satisfied--not necessarily full. If you are new to this, there is a tremendous appetite suppression for the first few weeks, but if done right, you will get a 'normal' appetite after a while. By 'normal' I mean without all the cravings and wanting to binge. You should feel in control, by then, and be able to trust that your hunger is satisfied enough to stop eating.

How can I figure out my BMR and what does BMR stand for? I hear everyone use that term, but I don't know what it means...

          Hoping,

There is a thread on this topic in the FAQ section - dated March 10, 2005 9:31 PM. I couldn't find on this site the calculator that is mentioned, but I typed "Basal Metabolism Calculator" in my browser and a few different ones came up.

That's so depressing--My BMI says I'm normal, hip to waist puts me at above normal risk, and the other one (BMR?) puts me at obese. I know I carry it all in my belly, so I gues that's an added risk--but I've worked awfully hard to still be considered obese.

Animal fat is helpful for boosting cals, same as dairy fats.

Re: Eat when hungry, stop when full??!!

So if my BMR is 1500 calories and if my lifestyle is 900 calories and if my exercise varies between 100 - 500 calories........how many calories should i eat for optimal results????

I've studied other links but just can't seem to figure it out

The general school of thought is to never dip below 1200 calories for anyone, at any time.

So as long as i eat over 1200 then i won't go into starvation mode??!!

I thought i had to go over 1500(my BMR)

When you read around that link, you will see you're supposed to deduct 500 calories from your bmr to lose weight. If your BMR is only 1500 that means you don't have alot to lose and shouldn't deduct 500 calories. I'm not saying that you will go into starvation mode, everyone is different. I'm just saying that it's not good for anyone's health to eat less than 1200.
