  • Why am I not losing anymore??

    Hi,
I am on my 3 week of owl and I stopped losing weight. It was actually my second week that the scales stopped moving. I am so fustrated, I am eating 25-30 carbs per day. I just feel like giving up, what am I doing wrong now? I have been thinking I should go back in to induction and see if that would help. Is it possible to eat to much fat and protien in a day and not lose weight? I keep looking at your pictures and telling myself that will be me someday, I am just finding that harder and harder to believe.

If you eat more protein than your body needs, it will convert into bad stuff that can cause you to gain or stall.

If you eat more calories than you are exerting, you will stop losing and you will start gaining.

More importantly - have you added any new foods this week? That might be the culprit. But also, you need to expect some "pauses". How many days has it been since the scale dropped? Are you still losing inches?
    Start date: 7/29/2007

    Scale: SW:235 CW:193
    GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

    Mini goals:
    215 - met 9/10/07
    205 - met 10/17/07
    195 - met 2/20/08
    180

    I survived a two-month stall!

Totally Totally normal! Alot of people have a slow down or stop after their first two weeks of induction! How are the inches? MAke friends with your tape measure. Hang on..... this will pass and you will start losing again. Just your body adjusting to all the changes you have thrown at it! Give it time!

I know many people here do not have to count calories, but I have found I have to watch how many calories I eat if I want to lose. Hubby on the other hand can eat all he wants it seems and he isnt as strict with his foods as me and he is a faster loser. You might wanna post a menu and let the experts here give some suggestions. But it just might be a your body needs a break to readjust. I have found about every month and a half my body pauses and takes about a week or so to start losing again.

"More importantly - have you added any new foods this week?"

Does that mean any food or food that is allowed? If I understand correctly you add 5 carbs a week, is that any carbs as long as it is not more than 5 or should you follow a list? I seem to remember a order of food the book recomends. I will have to go and re-read it. How many calories are u supposed to have in one day?

          Thanks
          Niki

ps...I never measured myself..will do that and stop weighing myself so much.

There's a *very* specific order in which to add the 5 grams of carb back in in. It's not just any carb. The new 5 grams should be coming in the form of veggies (non starchy ones).

If you didn't do that, then I'd suggest you drop whatever it is you added and start doing it according to OWL.

You're supposed to eat until you're satisfied. Not full, not stuffed - but satisfied. If that's 1200 calories for you, then you eat 1200. If it's 2000 calories for you, then you eat 2000. - Just keep your percentages in check. 65%fat/30% protein/5% carb (give or take, but stay close. As you progress and add in more carb, the percentages will shift and your calories will drop - but worry about eating the right foods for now).

Make sure you're exercising regularly too - and definitely measure.

Look at the "sticky" posts on OWL, they give you a sample plan and tells you what to add and in which order.

Is that what you eat all day or is that what every meal has to make up? Sorry if my questions sound dumb, I just want to get this right.

No question is dumb, Niki. It's much better to clarify.

The answer to your question is both Each meal should come close to that, and as a result your overall totals for the day will.

It'll get easier as you do this, I promise. Concentrate more on keeping your carbs at 20 net grams (carb total minus fiber) for the day and spreading them out between your meals and snacks - and when you enter your stuff into Fitday- your totals should be somewhere around 65/30/5 - give or take. If you're low on fat today, then you up your fat intake tomorrow. If you're high on protein, then you lower that tomorrow. Tweak it till you get it right.

Ive been on Atkins for a little over 9 weeks now, and trust me, ive been frustrated too. That is, until earlier this week when I stepped on the scales and saw a 6lb weight loss from the previous morning. I almost flipped out. I went about 4 weeks there only losing about 3 lbs, and was starting to get discouraged.

I think theres going to be stalls, plataeus, or whatever you want to call it, but the main thing is dont give up. Keep that truck moving full steam ahead and eventually you HAVE to get the results you are looking for.

This, in my opinion, is one of the best reasons to read the posts here. I love hearing that this will happen!

I am starting to understand this process a lot more now and thank you all for your helpful answers. I am glad I did not give up. I am planning to go back to 25 carbs and use the food list from the book and watch how much fat and protien I am eating.

                        Thanks again.

Hey Niki, I've been doing some research on how water works in the body and its role in burning fat. Some of the details are in my thread about diet soda and weight loss, but the interesting thing I found is that water is extremely crucial in the fat-burning process so up your water intake too. I posted a couple articles in that threat that were enlightening in that respect. If you're not a big water drinker, you might find that information very useful.

That is one of my bad points not getting enough water. That should be a easy fix. I will look up the thread you mentioned.

I agree that water is tremendously important. During the weight loss phase, every time I upped my water consumption, my losses increased.
