  • I have a question...please help.

I'm having trouble making salad greens and other vegetables be the majority of the carbs I eat per day since we can only have 3 cups total (I'm still in Induction). Has anyone else had this problem or do you just eat less of other carbs so that you don't even meet the 20?

I would love some advice or suggestions PLEASE!!!

    Thanks in advance.

I'm gonna get shot for this, but..... back when I measured instead of weighed my greens (I usually buy the combo called "spring greens") I'd cram those greens into that measuring cup! My spring mix says 85 grams (3 ounces) is 3 grams carbs and 1 gram fiber (2 net carbs) If I were to put that in a measuring cup loosely, I'd get almost 6 cups of greens. Thats' when I started weighing. If I were you *I'm ducking now* I'd make sure to get 12 grams of veggie carbs a day and if that measures out a bit higher, so be it. Measuring raw greens is so variable anyway.

Yes but ifound out through psts that we shouldactually be makingreular vegatables more prevalant in our meals. Lettuce has no nutritional vlau and is only water. Honestly just consider lettuce kinda a blank. I wouldt count it honestly. I would go with broccolli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, green beans, celery, tomatoes, mushrooms.....you honestly will have to eat less brussel sprouts per serving to meet the carb goal for veggies as they are higher in carb but oooooo oh so good

True. It might be easie to get the grams oyu need if you assemble the slad from scratch so you know whats in it for sure, how much of it and what to count.

Most mixes I avoid because there always sseems to be something toooooo bitter in it! Olivia's stuff is really good though. It has tango, lolla rosa, red and green romaine, red and green oakleaf, red and green chard, spinach, mizuna, raddichio, frissee, beet greens, arugula, tat soi, and red mustard leaves.

The book says 20 net carbs is the upper limit of what we can eat daily. So according to the book, you don't have to eat 20 net carbs daily, you might eat 18 or 15. Yes, I know that there are sample menues produced by Atkins Nutritionals that have Induction carbs as high as 22 net carbs daily, but if you closely examine those menues, you'll see they are that high because they have included one of the Atkins products in the menu. In other words, it's a way to sell their merchandise.

How many carbs are you eating daily?

For example if you are eating 20 net carbs daily, then at least 11 of those carbs must come from vegetables according to the book. The book says we eat 3 cups of vegetables daily. Either 3 cups from the "salad" list or 2 cups from the "salad" list and 1 cup from the "other" list.

If you are eating lettuce, it won't cut it at all. You'll need to eat about 15 cups of lettuce to have 5 net carbs. While eating that amount might make the carb count, it teaches you absolutely nothing about appropriate, sensible portion sizes.

                  Re: I have a question...please help.

The chard and the greens are what's adding the good stuff to it! Excellent mix! Now I need to look for it....

But in answer to the question - I add a lot of stuff to the salads, cauliflower, broccolli etc to make it better for me - and it is HUGE on my plate!! I make sure my salad is at LEAST 1/2 my plate. I don't weigh much at all.... just too lazy when I am making dinner But I always get darker green salads as they are better and hold much more for you.

                    Re: I have a question...please help.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess my real concern is eating TOO MANY of the greens/veggies. 3 cups just doesn't usually get me to where I need to be carb wise. I don't have a problem eating more veggies, I'm just scared it's going to impact my weight loss since it says we should ONLY have 3 cups. Has anyone else found this to be true? I know it's individual for each person, but I would love to hear other's experiences with this.

                      Re: I have a question...please help.

Some may not agree but if I wanted more veggies, I ate them. Too many people scimp on veggies because they are higher in carbs than meat or cheese - and want faster results. This is a WOL and I think it is important to train yourself to eat veggies every day. I have never eaten so many veggies as on this plan.

There is a huge difference between good veggie carbs and bad processed white sugar carbs.... I refuse to be hungry on this WOL and so I often snack on a cup of broccoli or cauliflower with dressing. Yesterday I ate 23 carbs - but went to a party and managed to eat lots of veggies with spinach dip and cheese from the cheese tray - and stuck to chicken cesar salad as a main. I didn't go near the lasanga / bread / cookies - or wine - and feel much better for it!

I am doing induction for the third time - the first I lost 48 pounds- and maintained for almost 2 years. I went off the plan when pregnant and have struggled to maintain my weight since. I tried again a few months ago - but struggled - and gave up after a few weeks. This time I am way more determined - and on day 5 - have not had a single headache..........I think my body is so appreciative of me not eating white sugar - that it wouldn't dare give me a headache!!!

Make sure your salads have lots of other veggies in them, the more variety the better. And good luck!

Thanks Neihu. As I read on here in another forum "you've never heard of anyone getting fat on veggies." Part of my problem is that I only like some veggies, not all, so I've been eating them constantly.
