  • Why do you think Atkins is the best?

Hello all it seems to me that it is diet and excercise season up at my job. We have a challenge up here called the Biggest Loser, everyone weighs in once a month, and pays twenty dollars to be in the challenge. At the end of the semester we all weigh in, whoever lost the most weight wins a certain amount of money, then there is a second and third place.

Everyone at work is doing something different. I of course do Atkins, some are doing weight watchers, others are doing the Eat Clean diet, still others are just watching calories and fat.

I know what works for me, it's Atkins, it's worked in the past and it will continue to work as I get closer to my goal.

But I was wondering why do all of you think Atkins is the best diet plan? What about Atkins keeps you here and eating all legal food? I thought it would be helpful to hear others peoples reasons and subsequent motivation.

For me I guess it's that I don't like feeling hungry. I know that with Atkins I have the liberty to eat however much I want and I know with a certainty that I never have to feel hungry.

    Anyone else ....

It's just the only "diet" I've ever been able to stick to, knowing that one cheat spoils my whole week as i try and get back in to ketosis is a real booster for staying on track...
Also the way it makes me feel, energetic, fresh, great skin, healthy looking hair, not bloated, minimises PMS, need i go on?

      Yep as you guys said:
      - the fact a some foods are just off limits in terms of messing things up
      - the food is really tasty, fats are a great ingredient, easy to cook with
      - no hunger
      - I think some people a really sensitive to carbs, so this deals with that

It's fab! I have been on this plan for a year and half, other diets have tended to last less than a month because I'm so hungry

        • I believe it works and is a healthy diet. I believe in the science behind it
        • I am never hungry
        • I can stick to it - I have been 4+ months cheat free, on other diets I don't think I've ever done 4 days (or sometimes 4 hours!) without some cheat!
        • I like the food, no other diet lets me cook with butter, eat proper cheese and enjoy the lovely crispy skin on my chicken!
        • It fits pretty easily into my life - easy to cook meals all the family or any guests can eat and easy to eat out
        • It kills my cravings, I don't even notice the vast ranks of bars and sweets when shopping anymore
        • I feel much more energetic and less moody
        • It equips me to deal with my weight for life, not just while losing
        • IT WORKS!! I'm losing weight!

Re: Why do you think Atkins is the best?

I like it because I hate feeling hungry, and I'm not hungry with this WOE. Plus, I absolutely hate struggling with temptations, my hubby loves his junk food, and it was always a daily battle to fight the urge to tear into the cookies or chips and just start munching, but now it doesn't even bother me. I don't give any of the junk food I encounter a second look, and it's a relief to me. I've also always been a fatty food lover, more so than a sugar freak. Although I like pasta and bread, it was so hard to give up butter, sour cream, cheese, ranch dressing, steak, bacon, the whole egg not just the whites, and on and on. I'd much rather have a big juicy steak than pasta any day.

Plus I don't want to ever cheat, because unlike calories, I can't just make-up my mistakes at a later date. You've got to be in it for the long haul, or pay later on the scale. It keeps me accountable.

Thanks, lol. I was looking for some kind of quote about committing to your goals, when I came across this little gem, and I couldn't resist it.

Re: Why do you think Atkins is the best?

Not being hungry is a huge reason Atkins fits me so well. It's also really nice not to have to measure/weigh every bit of everything I put in my mouth; that kind of diet makes me obsess more about food, not less!

Most of all, I feel so much better eating this way than when I fall off the wagon and have all the instant-gratification-regret-it-later foods.

No way, no atkins attack from me, I am definatly an atkins supporter.

I just know my reasons for sticking to atkins and why I like it so much and I wanted to hear other people's perspectives. In all honesty reading everyone's responses has helped remind me of how great this WOE actually is.

Re: Why do you think Atkins is the best?

lol what don't I love about atkins would be a much much shorter list!

                        * I love being able to eat meat and cheese. These are two of my favorite foods and I love that they are not only allowed but encouraged!
                        * I LOVE THAT MY CLOTHES FIT!
                        * I have more energy and I can feel the difference between "i've had way to many carbs so I'm gonna take a nap" and actually being tired - needing real healthy sleep
                        * I also like that it's not food I can't have, its food I can't have yet. This makes it feel less restrictive and like I get some prizes along the road (I'm excited about when I can have almonds again!)
                        * I am healthy. This more than anything. I'm hypoglycemic and diabetes run in my family. This has been the only "diet" that has kept me from craving sugar and actually balances me out.

Oh I could go on and on. Just wanna say thank you Dr. Atkins

Re: Why do you think Atkins is the best?

                          I love atkins because:

I can eat til I'm satisfied.
I never have to feel hungry and starved.
I love sour cream, cheeses, etc and hate any fat free low fat kind.
I love having good size portions of meats.
Cooking with fat is easy and also flavorful.
I love that I don't have that gross bloated feeling.
I like that following this WOE shows fast results. (smaller belly, thinner face etc.)
I feel a change in my energy, and my moods.
I no longer feel like a slave for food, I don't spend my evenings chowing on chocolate bars, slurpees and anything else bad for me I could get my hands on.
Now that I have seen results, it keeps me motivated to keep at it.
No other diet I have ever been able to lose 20 lbs on, I'd always quit before I got that far!

Yay for atkins....atkins is going to make me a hottie again!

                            Why I LOVE Atkins:
*I look younger--I get CARDED when I order drinks now!
*I have energy--I am able to work 10-hour days, and go to the gym for intense workouts, come home, and be full of energy. Before Atkins, I was living off of sugar and caffiene just to make it through an 8-hour day, and then I'd go home and take a nap.
*I LOVE the foods I eat--I get to eat such rich and decadent foods, while my co-workers are choking down fat-free yogurt and rice cakes.
*I am referred to as "the HEALTHY one" in any situation!
*I am able to do things I never dreamed of doing--like wearing a bikini, and TEACHING CLASSES at my gym!
*I have a new outlook on life, and I'm thankful for all that I have been given.
*I'm finally "the hot friend"--shallow, I know, but prior to Atkins, I've always been "the funny friend".
*I don't feel deprived--when I'm hungry I eat, and I get to eat GREAT foods.
*I'm in tune with my body--I know what foods I can eat and what foods to avoid, and that puts me IN CONTROL.
*I'm not a slave to food--I am able to control my food, not vice versa.
*I have not had a migraine in a year and a half--I used to get a migraine every week or two, and I haven't had a single once since I've been on Atkins.
*I'm a better person--I'm positive, I don't snap at others when my blood sugar is low, I don't get moody if I haven't had carbs or caffiene in a while, and I'm happier. My boyfriend is thankful for this most of all!!!

Re: Why do you think Atkins is the best?
                              • My LDL and triglycerides went down while my HDL elevated.
                              • The metabolic edge associated with Atkins simply cannot be beat: to not have to do intense cardio , mind calories, restrict portions, or restrict fat intake to keep my body fat at around 14% when I am naturally several dress sizes heavier? I'm just sorry it took me as long as it did to give this program a true chance!
                              • Atkins followers are FREE of that time-wasting malarkey and gimmicks because they simply don't prove necessary for us. With other programs, I see a bunch of barking up trees out of desperation ("Drink cold water in the morning & you'll get skinny!" "Don't eat late at night!" "Take these fat/carb-burners & you'll get skinny!" "Make yourself eat only half of what sates your appetite and take the rest home!" "Ten mini-meals a day is the key to weight loss!" "Taking the stairs instead of the elevator and you'll get skinny!" (The gym takes care of this for me.) Also, people convinced by their trainers that walking is only a stepping stone to hours and hours of high-intensity cardio when brisk walking is an excellent form of cardiovascular activity by itself. "Abs are made in the kitchen" rings so true - especially when it comes to Atkins. Engaging in highly intense cardio because you love it is one thing - but don't let anyone talk you into thinking that brisk walking isn't sufficient cardio for fitness. Take care of your eating and it will be.
                              • I've never had a trainer out of principle. Beyond maybe quickly showing me how to use a machine that's new to me, I do not believe them to be requisite for weight loss or even fitness.
                              • Cutting out the garbage and being at my ideal weight has made me even more ambitious. Type A in a good way, more into self-improvement than I ever was before, and taking me from merely confident to fiercely self-assured. Once you've reached the point where you take criticism and flattery just for what they are and not to heart, you know you've developed an unwavering self-concept - an invaluable attribute in all aspects of life. Never allow anyone to make you doubt yourself.
                              • I never feel heavy after a meal anymore because I know nothing I've eaten has "done me in." I'll put on a swimsuit right after a big steak dinner and feel confident enough to have my picture taken sitting down - which I did on in Florida August 2006. That was a milestone!
                              • If a non-stretch pair of jeans I try on is a size smaller than I actually wear, it may cut off my circulation and I won't buy it, but at least it looked nice!
                              • 30+ pounds on my 5'2"-5'3" frame took me from an Apple shape to an Hourglass. Atkins flat takes care of extra weight in the torso!
