  • The Feb '08 Group Thread

Hi folks! Following Elizellen's request, here is our new group thread. This works as, should we all hit different phases at different times, we can still return to the same place without muddying up a specific-phase's board if we've moved past it?

On that note!! How is everyone today? I hopped on the scale and was THRILLED to see it out of the 160's, lol. I'm at 159.0 and as long as that number doesn't start with, "16-", its progress I'm willing to take!

I also realized I have NO idea where my Atkins book went. My hubbie is perplexed as well. So looks like we'll be purchasing yet another copy this weekend so we can better grasp the rungs of OWL come Monday.

Its been a bit since I've read my OWL section (and to be honest, I was your typical moron and the first time on Atkins, I never left Induction, got bored and quit this WOE after I hit my goal weight - which, as I'm here a second time, proves I didn't learn how to keep it off lol)... but I don't recall the book cleverly laying out the 9 "rungs" - are they in there? I'm hoping its delightfully well spelled out for me!

The book does not mention the word 'rungs' it calles it the carbohydrate ladder. rungs are each step on a ladder, which is why we refer to each step on the OWL ladder 'rungs'

here is teh OWL carbohydrate ladder sticky that is in our OWL forum:

here is the OWL rules from our sticky int eh OWL forum"

hope this helps until you get a new copy of the Book!

Gracias! Maybe thats why I was having a blank moment. LOL. The more we talk about it, the more I think my book may actually have been left behind when we moved, so its sitting somewhere in California. Doh! =) Trip to B&N for me!

Re: The Feb '08 Group Thread

Hey folks! Such a quiet thread in comparison!! Hopefully it starts buzzing again soon. I guess I'll re-post my morning excitement: 159 lbs! It means I got to waive goodbye to the 160's!! =)

Today was rushed.. I had a Jimmy Dean frozen sausage omelet. Not my preference but they're yummy and great in a pinch! So I keep a few on hand for the days where I literally have no time to make breakfast before running to work. I toss it in my purse and heat it up at work!

Lunch was equally as uneventful. My DH managed to shove a tupperware of tuna & mayo at me as I ran out the door. Such a sweetie - I'd completely forgotten to make/bring anything!

Dinner will be Spaghetti Squash with Alfredo I think... has anyone had it with garlic butter sauce? Is it any good that way? And by garlic butter sauce.. I just mean melted butter and garlic salt. LOL. That's as creative as I get.

Last night I made cheese tacos!! HOLY COW they are FILLING. To think I used to swing by Taco Bell and get like.. 2 tacos, a mexican pizza and a BIG burrito and still not be satisfied. Darn you Frankenfoods! =) Remembering this, I made DH and myself 2 tacos each.. and I thought I was gonna explode. We agreed - 1 taco each is PLENTY! I stuffed them with ground beef, shredded iceburg and a hint of sour cream.

I'm not super saavy at making the shells, but I found the pan method worked better for me. I also learned patience is a virtue - dont flip them early! LOL.

Speaking of flipping - did I mention we had those Cheesecake Pancakes this weekend? My hubbie almost died. He was so estatic. Sean's doing this WOE more as support for me, not really to lose significant amounts (he's 6'3" and about 197 lbs), and he's like ridiculously amazed at the concoctions from here. Half the time he raves they are better than the originals... and I know he isn't saying it to be a bullshitty supportive hubbie because I'll overhear him talking about the recipes with his best friend, who is head chef at a place in Washington.

Really? I mean that's great that he likes them so much, it always makes me feel good to make a good meal that hubby loves. I'm making lots of different things to which my hubby is turning his nose up at. I am usually a really good cook, grantedly most of my recipes are from my mom. You will have to let me know which recipes REALLY deserve 5 stars. I had the cheesecake pancakes and I hardly liked them, dh couldn't even get the first bite down. Until I find some recipes that are worthy of his royalness I am making two seperate meals.....on a side note I did find one recipe that I am going to make for him. Cauliflower hashbrowns...mmmmmmm.

Yeah, I'm still holding off the yeastie diet since like a moron we went shopping Sunday and bought a weeks worth of everything: and its all mayo, heavy cream, etc. I wanna finish the groceries first.

Katie.. its somewhat Induction friendly (flax meal).. I'll post it.. lemme find it..

HEY! If anyone has AIM, my thingy is PistolinPink.. No Yahoo or MSN here. (which is why I cant bug Krisit!!)

Yea I have a bunch of stuff that I should use up too. I'm aggravated about the whole yeast thing. If that's what is gonna make me stall, grr!

Re: The Feb '08 Group Thread

After lots of thought and consideration, I've decided that I don't want to attempt the yeast diet right away. It's too soon for me to restrict myself this much, and this is what's gonna cause me to quit. Have you ever tried to make tuna salad with no mayo??? Absolutely gross! I couldn't even eat it yesterday. I am taking supplements so hopefully it'll help even it out, but as far as the diet part goes, it's definitely not for me. I passed by so many things today in the store that aren't even induction friendly OR Atkins friendly, (mmm taquitos) and I was considering picking it up...um no Kristi. Bad Girl!!! So I'm gonna do this thing like I was doing it before. At least I had the will power for that!

Re: The Feb '08 Group Thread

That's sort of my view at the moment. I'm going to try to reduce my use of cheese & mayo .. but right now, its more vital to my health that I learn to really stick with this WOE and grow even more second-nature to it, before I begin cutting out a few of the foods that help keep me on it.

Is it possible to eat happily without these foods? Of course. But as such a newcomer, I don't have the desire yet as my old way of eating isn't far enough in the distance for me to begin restricting even more. Right now I need to focus on EXERCISE and WATER. One item to conquer at a time =)

How do you make taco shells? And cauliflower hash browns? How do you make those? Both sound great.

I would suggest doing a search in the Recipes Forum. I haven't even heard of those recipes.
