Re: The Feb '08 Group Thread

Hi everyone. Well I must say I liked being home than being at work. Actually it would have been nicer if I was home feeling good than sick. Anywhooo lots and lots of work piled up.

Im feeling much much better and Im thinking I will be good to go with starting up on Sunday. Day 1 of induction again. This time I will need to incorporate some exercise since that never ever entered into my plan the last 2 weeks. I will have 3 weeks to get to my goal wieght of 155. Not sure that I will be anywhere near it but Im still going to shoot for it.

Hope everyone is having a happy friday!!!

After knocking off 16 lbs. the first two weeks, and adding minor things like radishes and asparagus...weight loss has only been 3 lbs. at best the last 10 days.....grrrrr....and this with at least 45 minutes of exercise a day........

BullDawg: Slow but steady is good, though! It allows our bodies time to adjust to the changes of being a smaller person and helps skin shrink accordingly =) Just remember that during those frustrating times. Also try varying foods. Perhaps your body is more sensitive to certain veggies over others?

        ___________________________________________>>

Kristi: You're in my brain! I almost made those last night. I remember I once tried to make fauxtatoes and decided to do it without a recipe or a clue (years ago). I mashed up some cauliflower, added some salt and pepper, and NEARLY DIED. It was TERRIBLE. Now that I realize folks put more than just water, salt and pepper into them, they sound just fine. LOL. What a turd I am sometimes.

        ___________________________________________>>

Alright kids. I'm debating if I need to consider tomorrow a restart date. Its not that I've fallen OFF the wagon so much as my wagon has been a little wobbly.

I've realized I can only blame my slower-than-last-time weightloss on myself, but I'm OK with that. =) It drives me completely nuts when folks ask things that are OBVIOUSLY not alright on Induction/this diet. I wanna scream, "READ THE BOOK!" -- and now here I am, no longer the dedicated expert I used to be. LOL. I realized only recently my book is somewhere in California and this really is a WOE that I need to have that handy. I also need to stop ignoring things I know aren't strict to the plan.

        01. My GARLIC SALT. I read labels for everything else and for some odd not-like-me reason (did I subconciously not want to wave goodbye to my sodium-filled friend?) I never checked my garlic salt. And thanks to Kristi, I realized it contains sugar. So sad, so sad. ;-)

        02. CoffeeMate's Sugar-Free Creamer. This isn't Induction friendly. It isn't even friendly in general. This might be made with Splenda but it contains maltodextrin *DUH* which is a "sugar" typically derived from corn, rice or potatos. And to top it off, the first week of Induction, I probably dabbled in this a wee bit more than I intended.

So, acknowledging these little "whoops'es" means I can correct them. I remember the first time I did Atkins, and did SO well, I was very by the book. I mean, very. I might as well have been Julia, Elizellen, or MitziMarie! ;-) (thats a compliment, gals!) I didn't even use heavy cream. I didn't even bother with diet soda unless it was a very occassional Diet Rite.

And water and exercise weren't optional. I had a job where I was on my feet all day long, wrestling and walking and cleaning (vet tech work - so a lot of physical work lifting dogs, walking dogs, cleaning kennels, etc). I also jogged 30 minutes a day and did situps. And I wasn't anywhere without my water bottle. I actually managed to annoy a coworker with this, who complained my toting around an arrowhead everywhere was "unsightly" (maybe so but my boss sided with me).

This time around.. well.. I have walked the dogs but that's about as far as I've gotten. I met my stair climbing goal just because we don't have an elevator at work and I have to hike to my desk, and I chase Molly up and down the stairs like no other at home. And my water intake is terrible. I mean, not deathly terrible (probably about 40 ounces of water, 48 ounces of herbal tea) but not where it ought to be.

I'm buying yet another copy of the book tomorrow. This time I won't leave it in another state, lol. Even if you know all the rules, I still firmly believe everyone needs a copy they can refer to and refresh with often.

I'm also going to begin using FitDay to track my carbs and calories. I don't like that its harder to search for foods, but I can use my CalorieKing account to find any missing info and fill my FitDay in.

        Yes.. so.. that's my update/confession.

Hey everyone, Well its mid afternoon here and Im so ready to head home but I got another 2 hours to go.

Fala: You are so consistent with your exercise. Thats so great. I need to get into that groove soon.

Kristi: That hamburger gravy thing looks really good. I didnt see if it was induction friendly or not. I guess I should be safe and wait till im done.

Bulldawg: Slow is good like Brittney says. Are you eating enough calories? I seem to have that issue so just thought I ask.

Brittney: WOW so totally sucks about the garlic salt. Im an addict too so I better take a look at mine and see if it has any sugar. I do use Old Bay too which is good. About Fitday I signed up on it but I dont really like it. Its a pain to find the exact food your looking for. I guess its the best one out there since so many on the board uses it. As far as doing it all over I dont think you need to. The loss you acomplished during induction was great. The whoops'es that you had were not too significant I think. I say keep at it with extended.

I use Fitday. I haven't had any problems with it so far. If there is something missing, I just look up the nutrional info and add it on there myself.

Happy Saturday Morning peoples! I'm eating my yummy breakfast, and getting ready to go for my 1 hour walk. I can't wait and the kids are excited!

Ok, so back to my breakfast:

2 eggs scrambled with 1 cup fresh spinach, onions, and 1 ounce of cheese...this is absolutely amazing. I had this for dinner last night as well. YUM!

I have so many custom foods in fitday that I balked at making the switch to calorie king but I do like the interface.

Re: The Feb '08 Group Thread

I got so tired of fitday, having to go into the nutritional details for all my veggies, find the fiber, and then keep a tally of the fiber in the journal section. Because the carbs in the veggies should be net carbs for Atkins, not total carbs.

I'm having a pissy week because I stopped losing. I've averaged one pound a week since Feb 15th. After my initial one week loss, something quit working. Tell me not to give up, because I was dreaming i ate chocolate cake last night.

Enough - I"m just going to start complaining more from here!

They must have changed it because now the the fiber carbs shows right under total carbs and it's super easy. I've had fitday for years and I do remember a lot time ago it was a lot messier to use.

Start off slow and work your way into a bigger routine. I just know that my body responds well to exercise, it's just getting off my lazy duff and doing it. Now that you said I am consistent I gotta keep it up! Thank you so much! I need to be accountable! And I'm rooting for you too! Just find an exercise you like doing and it makes it more doable. Like I love to dance so I incorporate that on my treadmill, made an exercise playlist for my ipod with all my favorite songs that just MAKE me want to move and I get down and funky and the treadmill! LOL! In two weeks when my BFF comes back from vacation he's going on Atkins too AND we're gonna join the Y and start swimming laps twice a week! I LOVE to swim and know I'll end up going more than that, with or without him! Tee-hee!
