I will continue to believe that Dr. A was passionate about sharing his success strategies with everyone at no (or minimal) cost, but pressure mounted from his partners to increase income to fund all the research needed to open the eyes of doctors, trainers and dieticians. Now that he's left us, there's no one to counterbalance the desire for profit!Eric

Re: Has anyone been to www.atkins.com
The bars Dr. A mentions are NOT the same ones they are selling today. The Atkins bars (and maybe shakes) have been reformulated to taste better - not to improve our success on the diet but to sell more product. So, did Dr. Atkins not write the last book?
I wonder why he mentions them in the book if they are so bad for you?

Re: Has anyone been to www.atkins.com
Sure, for one on one counseling. But I'm saying that I had full access to his diet "secrets" for the price of a book (free checkout at library). Even the Atkins website (last I checked), while perhaps pushing all the frankenfoods, allows free access to the particular rules for this WOE. I'd be hard pressed to find another program that offers people free information. WeightWatchers, NutriSystem, eDiets, LA Fitness -- all charge a fee for their programs.Originally posted by MoreStylish View PostHuh? Re: Has anyone been to www.atkins.com
I suppose I understand what you mean, however one of the biggest (and probably 1st rule) of Atkins is to READ THE BOOK! Which in the late 90's, early 2000's I believe cost about $12-$15 and cost about $2-$3 to make.Originally posted by Greeneggs&ham View PostSure, for one on one counseling. Re: Has anyone been to www.atkins.com
I first read Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution in the early 70's. Lost 65 lbs in six months. Easy, simple, very few rules, no rungs, and great success. Never will understand why I have stopped and restarted so many times since then. I still use the same book today.
Besides, if the 200,000 year history of the Neanderthals isn't enough to convice folks of the soundness of a diet that is 85% meat, nothing will!

Re: Has anyone been to www.atkins.com
people have to pay their mortgage. 12-15 dollars is practically nothing for the wealth of information you get. Also, there's a lot of people taking their share of that 15.00...the bookstore/publishing company/editor...Originally posted by MoreStylish View PostI suppose I understand what you mean, however one of the biggest (and probably 1st rule) of Atkins is to READ THE BOOK! I don't think Dr. A was buying private jets and galavanting off to paris.

Re: Has anyone been to www.atkins.com
I stopped using the website when it changed, it's not user friendly anymore, i used to use the carb counter on the site all the time. Now i go to google, type in "atkins carb counter" and there's a link to the carb counter page from the old site. So you can still get to the old site...kind of.

Re: Has anyone been to www.atkins.com
I think it would be foolish to think that Dr. Atkins was not in this for money. and although I use the 2002 book for this board, my favorite book of his was the 1992 version before he himself started pushing his products. Just check the recipe sections! LOL.
Having said that, being in it for money does not mean he wasn't great at what he did and probably very caring and dedicated to helping people. We all go to work for money, but some of us also really care about what we do. He was a businessman though and if you multiply the price of the books by the millions sold, even allowing for everyone who had a cut, he was still a millionaire on book sales alone.
Having said that.... I don't hold it against anyone who makes millions by working hard. And I'm sure he did.
In reference tot he Atkins products, i never did really care for them, when he was here or since he's gone. So I just don't use them. I might have gotten the vitamins he recommended, but I think they discontinued the whole vitamin line, didn't they?

Re: Has anyone been to www.atkins.com
I also purchased the suppliments----those ones are gone now--
I have several versions of the book also--and enjoyed the updates and latest findings:
he was using his money to pursue his passion for Vita-nutreints. he was convinced the soil we grow our veggies in-- is depleated and the veggie's we eat today are not what man ate 100's of years ago..he mentions it in the 2002 book.Male/46

Re: Has anyone been to www.atkins.com
I don't think anyone thinks that Dr. A wasn't in it for the money, its more of a question of whether or not he "sold out." I'm pretty sure what Eric meant by "giving in to the almighty dollar..." was allowing products that go against the philosophy of the diet to be sold under the Atkins name for profit.Vanessa
