Re: Has anyone been to www.atkins.com

this diet was swept up in a media hype
over 20 million people were doing it--nothing was selling in supermarkets and fast food joints and many restaurants--
entire aisle's, with Atkin's approved products by the 100's , were installed in most supermarkets--
he started a lab to test these product's for his "A" ( and sure make a buck from it)
but faced overwhelming products, there's a point where control was lost
and company's figured it's best to say "Approved" even if the approval came from them...to not share in the profits.

and as said before the "A" today is the remains of a corp. and they are selling product different from the past.

I've been reading different things about soil nutrients. I guess we get a lot of our daily selenium through veggies that get it from the soil. Selenium is vital for thyroid regulation and metabolism. I'm going to start taking selenium supplements because I don't think I'm getting enough.

The site is nothing like I first knew it. After Dr. A passed away and the corporation took over, there were so many spelling, grammatical, and inserted errors, it drove me nuts just trying to read the articles.

I don't think Dr. A was buying private jets and galavanting off to paris.
The last time I looked it up, over 10 million books had been sold.

              10 million x $12.50 = 125 million dollars profit.

A quick Google search resulted in publishing companies generally receiving 15% and the editors fee is sometimes included.

              That puts us at:

              125 million x .15 = 18,750,000
              125 million - 19 mill = 106 million

Tack on another 10% for the bookstore:

              125 million x.10 = 12,500,000
              106 million - 13 million = 93

93 million dollars. Lets say the percentages were wrong in this case, so lets give a buffer of 15 million dollars.

That still puts us at 78 million dollars.

That's not just paying your mortgage ... unless you own about 50 houses all worth a million a piece.

Futhermore, I just read that when Dr. Atkins died his estate was worth $600 million. There is also a fund that pays Dr. Atkins wife (widow) 1.2 million per MONTH.

who gives a ****. whats the point in pointing out that dr. atkins was rich. he died! money isnt everything. I felt the need to defend him because you point out that he made a lot of money as an insult. He deserves to be rich. Whether or not you think he's a "sell-out" is up to you. I googled his net worth and it showed up as 100 million.

I'd say well deserved in comparison to paris hilton's 100 million. I bet you wish you'd have come up with the diet.

First of all, I never called him a sell out.

Second of all, I was not attempting to insult Dr. Atkins at all. I was simply pointing out an error in one users post. They said:

"I will continue to believe that Dr. A was passionate about sharing his success strategies with everyone at no (or minimal) cost"

I'm sorry, but a $400 million dollar company and a $600 million dollar estate is not anywhere near to "no (or minimal) cost."

I googled his net worth and it showed up as 100 million.
You should have done a bit more research. It was worth 100 million when the articles were written 5-6 years ago. The company was sold after his death and his wife received $400 million.

"When the business was sold after his death, his wife was left with $400 million."

Well, aside from the money I wasted on my first go round at GNC to buy overpriced chocolate and sawdust meal replacement bars, I have yet to spend a dime towards Mrs. Atkin's trust fund so it is certainly minimal cost for me.

Now if only I could get back my money from those wasted WeightWatchers meetings...

Oh, and no, I'm not impressed with the Atkin's website
