  • Splenda shocker!

Okay, I know opinions are like noses, everyone has one, but....

I just got through watching this video on youtube (YouTube - Exposing Splenda: Insecticides are Good For You? ). I was totally shocked that Dr. A would recommend such a thing as splenda, albeit in small amounts, but still. I think this man in the video is very intelligent and there are multiple other videos on youtube stating the same kind of information.

I will definitely be looking for some Stevia. I hope GNC carries it because in this little town there are no healthfood stores available.

I can't believe I spent so much on replacing all my aspartame with splenda!

I am all for being aware of what you are eating and sweeteners can be tricky.
I am a little bit non impressed about all this anti hype about Splenda though. Sounds a bit like scare tactics.
But some people react negatively to splenda and it is something to be aware of.
Here is another opinion on Splenda by another low carb guru (Dr Eades of Protein Power)

        Re: Splenda shocker!

I've pretty much stopped using Splenda myself, not because there are bad things being said about it but because there are so many good things about stevia that it makes no sense for me to even want to use something that is chemically manufactured. However, when I do have to make a choice, I will pick Splenda over aspartame any day as I have outweighed the pro's and con's, and there are far worst factors regarding aspartame than sucralose. In my home we try our best to use natural and organic foods and stevia fits just fine into that equation. It only tastes "bad" if you use too much. But if you're trying to make an honest lifestyle change, you don't need too much of it anyway as you are trying to deter your body from gravitating towards those sweet cravings. Just a splash here and there will do the trick.

Have you seen the new commercials promoting HFCS? Something like a mom telling another mom that she shouldn't give the kids the juice because it contains it..and the mom was like, "so, it also has vitamins and yada yada yada" and then it says "get the facts" paid for by the corn industry (of some sort) I had to chuckle to myself. I guess a lot of people are getting the facts and not choosing things that contain it anymore!

                  Desert,
I will definitely use Splenda when out and have the choice between that or aspartame. I do want to find the Stevia, however. I plan on using just the slightest amount as I have seen in the video mentioned and mercola.com recipes.

I'm not saying this guy is the authority on everything. But if you watch enough of his videos, he is very informative, and yes, he cuts out MOST processed foods. I think he makes a lot of sense and so do lots of others out there. But we can't just close our minds and say that only one person is right. We have to do our own research and see what is best for us.
I only brought this video to light because I found it astounding that Dr. A. (a no processed food guru) would push such a product on his followers.

                        To each his own.

Those HFCS commercials are something aren't they? Trying to call the product natural - is a stretch. Perhaps it is a good sign that they have to make commercials to defend the product. Some consumer awareness sneaking in there.

                            Re: Splenda shocker!

I personally use Stevia and Xylitol (derivitive of birch, hardwood)
And yes, i'm one that does try my best to avoid penicillin also. It would have to be a last resort. Im not into putting more myco-toxins into my system. I realize that we live in a world of chemicles. But if you're aware of them, then by all means try to avoid consuming them. Splenda is nothing but a chemical soup.
                            SPLENDA (sucralose)
                            Why is Splenda potentially harmful?
According to the Splenda International Patent A23L001-236 and PEP Review #90-1-4 (July 1991) Sucralose is synthisized by a five step process.
To illistrate the alarming "chemicle soup" required to create sucralose, listed are the chemicles used to produce this sweetner and to secure the chlorine does NOT digest in your body.
                            1.) Acetone
                            2.) Acetic Acid
                            3.) Acetyl Alcohol
                            4.) Acetic Anhydride
                            5.) Ammonium Chloride
                            6.) Benzene
                            7.) Chlorinated Sulfate
                            8.) Ethyl Alcohol
                            9.) Isobutyl Ketones
                            10.) Formaldehyde
                            11.) Hydrogen Chloride
                            12.) Lithium Chloride
                            13.) Methonal
                            14.) Sodium Methoxide
                            15.) Sulfuryl Chloride
                            16.) Trityl Chloride
                            17.) Taluene
                            18.) Thionyle
Splenda (made from sucralose) is created in the lab by using a complex process involving dozens of chemicles you and I can barely pronounce- let alone consume. Basicly, the chemists force chlorine into an unatural chemicle bond with a sugar molecule, resulting in a sweeter product, but at a price: a huge amount of artificial chemicles must be added to keep sucralose from digesting in our bodies. These toxic substances also prevent (hopefully) the dangerous chlorine molecules from detaching from the sugar molecules inside the digestive system, which would be a carcenogenic hazard.
