    Re: Splenda shocker!

I really don't want to argue with anybody but...
I'm a chemist. And I'm all for people who want to eat natural things with no chemicals. But to me, everything is a chemical. From Sodium Chloride to Methyl Salicylate, to Dihydrogen Monoxide, we eat, drink, and use chemicals every day.

Sorry, I just feel that I needed to put that out there

If you're addressing me Adam, I stated this-
I realize that we live in a world of chemicles. But if you're aware of them, then by all means try to avoid consuming them.

        Re: Splenda shocker!

I used to use Splenda until I read in a magazine that it can dry your eyes, which I was having a problem with. When I switched to Sweetn'Low, my dry eyes got better.

No argument here. Like I said to each his own. I'm no chemist (just a stay at home/homeschooling mom), but I do try to educate myself as best as I can. I'm not saying that I don't eat processed things or chemicals. Lord knows I do. But when I learned of something such as this being pushed on me by a DOCTOR I was very upset. That was my only point.

            Re: Splenda shocker!

FWIW, I think Dr Atkins would prefer no artificial sweeteners. My guess is he accepted Splenda when he was around because 1) it was a better alternative to the other artificial sweeteners available at the time and/or 2) there wasn't enough research about the negative consequences yet.

I also think gbidruglord was simply making the point that all food is comprised of chemicals -- even the so-called natural ones Anyone avoiding NaCl? How about H2O? While I am all for minimizing the bad stuff going into my system, I will opt for the lesser of two evils if necessary.

There is plenty of valid medical proof suggesting we should watch our fat intake. Do we accept these facts as "end all" or do we choose to follow the minority who believe refined carbs should be taking the heat unfairly given to fat?

My DH pointed out this commercial to me too. It says on there that you can consume in small amounts. Well they didnt bother to say just HOW much of this stuff is in all of the foods that we feed our kids. It is everywhere and I know before this wol I was blind to it all. Heck, I thought it was only in my special k bars and that was because I put it there. Boy was I wrong.

One thing I don't understand is why your post seems to be defending gbidruglord. I haven't attacked him or anyone. I only posted information to share with others. Evidentally I was VERY WRONG to do so.

I am not gonig to be posting any longer as I mistakenly believed that this was an open minded forum and all opinions could be expressed.

****, I don't even know if I will keep up with Atkins. I want a darn bowl of cereal! I can't think of going through the rest of my life without ever enjoying a bow of golden grahams for pete's sake!~

                Good luck to you all.

                  Re: Splenda shocker!

Sorry -- I wasn't trying to take anyone's side. I was trying to let EVERYONE have their cake and eat it too. Guess that was bound to fail on a site where cake is frowned upon. LOL!

I certainly would not attempt to upset a fellow homeschooler. Don't skip out on my account, although Golden Grahams does sound tempting. Fortunately, fitting into 36's again is even more tempting. Good luck and (hopefully) no hard feelings...

This is for polydextrose? where does the lysine come in?
And yes, it definitely needs interpretation

Ooookay, my mistake. I searched polyD and came up with poly D lysine and thought that's what you meant.

Polydextrose is basically a randomly linked highly branched glucose polymer. It's synthesized by thermal polymerization of glucose in the presence of citric acid and sorbitol.
