  • I quit

I feel like quiting. I have not lost any weight in the induction phase, and all I have read is ppl dropping a lot during it. I have no idea what I am doing wrong.

I drink diet coke with splenda
4C, and water, coffee with sugar free creamer (yes i count the carbs)

A typical meal for lunch is:
    2 no carb hotdogs
    2 string cheese
Lunch meat that has no carbs ( salami/roast beef)
    Left over dinner meat

    Dinner,
CkN wings, no sauce just lil salt and pepper
    steak, lamb, etc.
    1 C broccoli

    Snack
    Pork Rinds
Italian Cream Cheese with a lil splenda
    STring Cheese
Cream Cheese and Salsa (very small trace of carbs)

I feel like giving up. SOmeone motivate me please.

    Re: I quit

Hello, I hope you won't quit but keep trying. I'm not an expert but there are a few things I see right away.

sugar free creamer? is that a prepared product or the heavy whipping cream that the Dr. recommends? even if it doesn't list carbs some of the ingredients might be stalling your conversion into fat burning.

lunch meats, hot dogs? notorious for having additives that preserve them, and also preserve fat on our bodies. These should be used sparingly or not even.

cheese, string cheese, cream cheese? make sure you are limiting your intake to 3-4 ozs per day, these often have salt and that can make you hold water (ie weight)

1 c. of broccoli? that's the only veg you mention and the Dr. asks us to eat at least 3 cups daily of fresh veg. It's a must, not a maybe.

pork rinds, they are tricky, lots of salt, makes you hold water. small portions, I mean 5-6 pieces, I can get away with, but more than that per day makes me hold water b/c of the salt.

There are some other things that you might look at, but this is a start. Have you read the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition? I didn't think it was so important, I thought I could get enough of a start from the bulletin board, but it's really important to read the book.

    Make some adjustments, keep trying...

      Hi Izza

Another thing to watch out for is cheese, 3-4 ounces is the maximum for induction, so make sure you stick to those amounts.

How much weight in total are you hoping to lose?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

          Re: I quit

First- cut out the diet coke

Each cup counts as 1 sweetener for the day, you only get 3 sweeteners per day, also you should count each cup as a carb. It also has caffine that can stall your weightloss. Its really not worth it.

Second- cream cheese and other cheeses

I have never had italian cream cheese so i dont know how many carbs are in it. But each ounce of cheese counts as 1 carb, whether or not the package states 1 carb. You are allowed 3 to 4 oz of cheese a day but personally i find that if i eat 4 a day it stalls/slows my weightloss.

          Third- hot dogs

Are you eating them plain or with ketchup/mustard? If you are eating them with ketchup then check the label because some brands (like hunts) have 4 carbs per tablespoon, and to top it off they are mostly sugar. I would reccomend cutting the hotdogs down to 1 per day for induction, more than one also can slow you down.

          Forth- veges veges veges

I know you probably think they dont matter but they do. I space them out throughout my day. Here is a typical day for me:

7:15 am -decaf coffee w/ 1 tbsp heavy cream, 1 or 2 splenda packets
8:00 am- 1/2 cucumber (between 1 and 1 1/2 cups) with either EVOO and salt or 1 or 2 tbsp beano's submarine dressing (deli section at walmart)
10:00 am 2 eggs with some kind of meat(bacon, chorizo, ham) sometimes scrambled with added veges or eaten with salsa and queso fresco.
1:00pm more veges, either the other 1/2 cucumber or 1 cup or so of whatever veges i have in the house
4:00pm- a piece of string cheese or some ham or some other protien i have in the fridge like leftover chicken or something. Just enough to tide me over to dinner.
6:30pm- whatever is for dinner. My fav is to make tacos. i lay out lettuce leaves and then fill them with meat or chicken, tomato, avocado(now that i am on OWL 1 but it might be ok on induction i think) salsa and sometimes some queso fresco. Or i just make sandwich rollups with meat or chicken in lettuce with mayo and tomato.

I dont eat anything after dinner. I am usually full so i dont mind anyways.

            Where's breakfast? Veggies?

Add some yummy eggs, cut back on your cheese and processed meats (Hot dogs, lunch meats, etc...)

Make some salads with chicken breast, cooked ham, shrimp

Eat your veggies! The majority of your carbs right now shouldbe coming from your veggies. Mashed cauliflower, broccoli, fried radishes, asparagus with garlic butter, be creative!

Get rid of the sugar free creamer. Try a little 1/2 & 1/2 or heavy whipped cream in your coffee.

Are you using a tracker, such as fitday, to monitor your carbs and make sure you are getting enough? If you're eating less than 20 grams of carbs allowed during induction, that could hurt you. Your body needs fuel, it needs food in order to work properly - Otherwise, it goes on strike and you are left frustrated....

I wish you the best - I know how upsetting it can be - You can totally do this!!

                Great suggestions, but I'll add...

Please don't quit before you've even started .

There's a lot to learn about this way of eating for life. And the number one thing you have to learn is to find your commitment to yourself to reach your goal. Sure we all have our days and issues (aka: stress, lack of money, job, family, etc.) that keep us from wanting to eat on this plan, but if we want to truely succeed, we need to refocus, replan, be committed to ourselves, and make sure we have enough back ground knowledge of what we're doing.

I wouldn't have lost with that menu either! If it were me, I'd nix the pork rinds and processed meat, and incorporate a lot more of the required veggies. Atkins

                    Then I'd start losing.

                      Don't quit!
Induction is hard. BUT you really have to make a complete change to the way that you eat.

Eat REAL meat, processed meats do not help you physically or in weight loss.
Get rid of the soda, period. I was a 6 pack a day soda drinker and I could do it so you can too.

Don't give up, but you have to do it properly and soda and pork rinds and process meats is not properly. Sorry but you can do this if you do the right things.

And don't forget to set goals because we need a road map so we know where we are trying to go. Make them realistic and specific. Then always keep them in mind as you go through your day.

OK- so from what I have read is I was relying on to many "easy" foods. I will adjust my menu's to not inlcude lunch meat, and string cheese. Is there a good cheese I can eat? Perhaps I will boil ckn breasts in ckn broth and bring that for lunch everyday, as well as bring a cup of veggies. I am going ot start the induction phase over. What kind of cream do ppl put in their coffee? Any tips?
