    Re: I quit

I'm in the same boat! It's so frustrating. Atkins was my trump card. I'm on Day 6 of induction and have lost nothing. I haven't gained anything, but no loss whatsoever. I am doing the induction properly, but am going to read to see what i can tweak before I give it up.
I have a feeling my antidepressant meds are the culprit. I'm not ready to attaempt changing them right now though. Surely I can still lose weight though, geesh!

      Re: I quit

izza, you've done yourself a great favor by sticking with it!

For creamer in your coffee look in the dairy section, it's called heavy whipping cream, it's usually in a pint sized milk-type container. On induction you're supposed to use just 3 tablespoons, per day I think.

String cheese is an acceptable cheese, and conveniently packed in a 1 oz. serving. Nothing wrong with it. My only objection to it is because of how it's packaged it's a lot more expensive per serving than buying a big block of cheese and cutting it up into dice-sized pieces to put in zip loc bags.

Others to try are many, like my favorite is vintage white cheddar. Other people seem to like the regular yellow cheddar. I also love Swiss, and Mozarella is okay too. Also try some of the "luxury" cheeses (for me they are luxury b/c usually pretty spendy per pound) like havarti, Jarlsberg (my fave), brie, you know, the ones you see in the gourmet case at the deli.

Any kind of genuine cheese, not "processed cheese foods" like so many of the pre-sliced Kraft brands. Those have lots of additives. (Kraft says "real cheese" on its package but that's just a marketing word)

The important things to remember about cheese is, 1) only 3-4 one-ounce servings per day, and 2) just know that cheese is very often a culprit in slowing or stalling your weight loss, for many people. So watch carefully how you use it, don't rely on it for a mainstay. Right now I'm limiting my cheese to 1 or sometimes 2 servings per day.

Once you get a little more knowledge through experience with this way of eating, I'm pretty sure you will find yourself losing weight and feeling so much better in your energy level, etc etc etc that you read on this board!

I'm so glad to hear that you're keeping on...

        Re: I quit

induction really isn't that hard. if i can eat the foods i'm eating and never feel hungry, why quit? get an indoor grill and grill up some burgers. eat some salad. scramble some eggs for breakfast. it can be a little inconvient having to cook everything instead of just grabbing something easy but isn't it worth it to not have the hunger pangs all day and to eat and feel satisfied?

          Re: I quit

I have to be the one to say this, but this might not be the "way of life" for you. Weight Watchers or something else may be better. I came on here today to write the same thing. Hard for me to come on and give advice when I'm just as discouraged as you are.

Anyway, if you can't have pork rinds (modestly!) and a bit of freakin' splenda in your coffee, what kind of lifestyle change is that?! Ugh.

I lost 30lbs in like 6 wks the first time. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th times, this "lifestyle change" did not work for me. The 3rd time, I did lose 9 lbs, but it TOOK 5 WEEKS!!! I didn't even lose a pant size!! I WANT sweet n low, for the love of Pete, more than I want to lose these 30 lbs.

Sorry, I didn't mean to go all whiny on your thread, but I kept hearing the same thing...stick with it. More veggies. More calories. No soda. Exercise.

To be honest, this just might not work for you. BUT, you should definately give it a real shot!!! At least thirty days. Take all the advice, but if you're not having a good time, and you're not enjoying your life, it will NEVER be a lifestyle change!!!

              Re: I quit

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to post. I do feel encouraged, and am going to reevaluate what foods I have been eating. I think my problem was I was eating TOO much cheese, and processed foods. I am going to only eat the less convienent foods. Even though it will take more prep time, I am hoping I will see the result I am looking for.

SO, just so I am clear..I should be eating meets that I actually cook like ckn, steak etc. I'd been doing that for dinner but not for lunch. I am defn going to change that.

For breakfast I have been eating two hard boiled eggs. Also, sometimes, in the evening I would eat one. Is that o.k.?

I will limit myself to 1 can of diet coke with splenda a day, and drink primarily sparkling water and water. What about that 4C stuff I have read about?

I really hope I start to see results.

              Thank you to everyone.

                Re: I quit

Two boiled eggs, is a skimpy breakfast.

A two egg omelet, cooked in butter, with diced veggies like red/green peppers and onions or mushrooms, a sprinkle of cheese, with a side of sausage would be better.

Most common mistake for new folks on Atkins.. skimping on the fat.

                What is 4c?

                  Re: I quit

This is a word of encouragement to those who have said on this thread, "I also quit."

If you have had years (as I had at one time) of abusing your body with foods that are processed, convenience, boxed, fast, salt, sugar or corn syrup-laden, and especially wheat (cookies, crackers, pasta, breads, and just about anything that is in a box or a cellophane package), then it may take a little while for your body to adjust, i.e. cleanse itself from all the chemicals that are found in those foods. And also to cleanse from the preservatives in those foods that, guess what, also preserve their constiuents as weight inside our bodies once they've been consumed. Water is the key to that process. Drink it throughout the day, not just in big gulps to "get it down". Every metabolic process that occurs does so in the presence of water inside the cell.

Take a step back and have some perspective: even if you "only" lost 5 pounds, or 4 pounds, or whatever, realize this, on a standard doctor-recommended diet people work hard and starve themselves to lose that much over 4-6 weeks, if they are lucky.

Give this plan a chance to work for you. Resist the urge to continue in the role of "consumer in the instant gratification economy".
