  • How much walking should I do??

    I was told from a wise and caring member (ahem, Sherri) that I should walk as often as I can. Well this weekend will by my two week anniversary of walking 6 days per week. I have been doing 2 miles per day. The other day I did it twice and got in 4 miles! My first day it took me almost an hour to do 2 miles and within a few days and even now it takes me about 35 minutes, so I think I gained a good pace.

    Anyone know what the recommended amount is per day? I want to make sure I am walking enough.

    I personally think you are doing GREAT! Keep up the good work but I don't have any idea how much you're "supposed" to walk...

      Most 'experts' recommend 5 miles a day. Don't overwork yourself. You can do this by wearing a pedometer and trying to reach 10,000 steps daily. Park as far from storefronts and work as possible. Take a ten minute walk on your lunch break. Take the stairs. It is amazing how fast it adds up.

          Great Job Kathie!!!
          Did you know that walking is # 5 on the list for best aeorbic exercise? It is!
          Here's a great site from the man that actually discovered aerobics www.cooperaerobics.com .
          An hour a day is just fine Kathie. If you feel like doing more, then go for it! Though an hour is adequate.
          I'm really proud of you Kathie.
          Frankenspine brings up a good idea. Get a pedometer and click it on your clothing at your waiste. You'll be amazed of how many steps you're taking each day.
          There's actually a Pedometer Challenge here that you can join aswell.

              Nike teamed up with ipod to make a great pedometer. I bought these sneakers. Which are light as a feather and I put the chip in my shoe. As I run, it tells me in my ear, how far, I've gone, how many calories, the time. It's amazingly accurate. Then on the nike site you can build a profile for yourself, you can create challenges and compete with others. It really makes it great.
