  • SO frustrated! HELP!!!!

    Hi all.

I started Atkins at the end of August, and so far, I have not lost any weight, despite doing almost everything right. In that time, my fiance (Tactical Cat) has lost 15 lbs, but has plateaued. I only WISH I had that kind of frustration. Actually - I did drop about 5 lbs in the beginning, but they came back or hover back and forth.

When I had a physical at the beginning of starting Atkins, my doc discovered I have hypothyroidism. Great! Now with Synthroid and Atkins I should be able to shed the lbs like never before. Right? Nope.

After a month or so on the lowest dose of Synthroid possible (.025 mg), he has now doubled it. That started last week. Still - NOTHING.

I think I need to drink more water, and I know I could exercise more. But, I have been SO good at sticking to the Induction plan - I should be seeing something by now.

    Here's my usual day:
    Breakfast:
2 or 3 eggs, either fried in butter or scrambled with cheese in butter
4 sausage links, or bacon, or 1 ham steak (with less than 2g carbs per steak - which wasn't easy to find)

    Lunch:
2 cups lettuce with some kind of protein (sometimes baked chicken thighs, or microwavable sausage patties (with 1g carbs/serving) or Boar's Head Roast Chicken - all with little (2g or less per serving) or no carbs., and about 4 oz shredded cheese.
If I eat dressing - it is usually red wine vinegar and olive oil

    Dinner:
We usually eat 1 - 2 cups veggies (sometimes a little more), and either something from the Atkins site like meatloaf made with fried pork rinds, or baked chicken, or fish cooked in butter.

I keep re-reading the rules. I think I really should be seeing some movement by now.

One area where I have seen mixed information on is caffiene. I do drink coffee and tea (and use cream instead of milk). Has anyone ever had a complete deal-breaker because of this? I had read that since the earlier findings, caffiene is ok - Dr. Atkins tested diet colas, and it was the citric acid that was the real culprit. Is that correct?

So, I ask you all for your help. And, I have added incentive now - a couple of weeks ago, Mr. Tactical Cat asked me to be his Mrs., so I guess I have to change my name to Estatic Cat now!!! The wedding is in mid-February. And, we are going to the Bahamas in early December too - would love to drop SOME lbs for an ego boost, at the very least.

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

If you can do it, stop drinking caffine. (for a week or so)

Caffine does hinder some people from losing weight. I have had it happen to me.

Maybe you're sensitive to dairy, or sodium? I sympathize with your frustration! On the other hand, a big congrats on your upcoming nuptials!

My wife jackiebazz has the same condition. she lost nothing in the first 3 weeks. But she does do a Sloooow but steady exercise routine. And she needs to watch the sodium. Your diet looks great, but I bet if you add up the sodium your intaking daily, you will be amazed! anything in a package or bag is processed. And meat and meat-by-products, have plenty of sodium to keep it fresh plus the amount of Nitrates (Super sodium) on top of that screems retention for many. Dr. A wanted us to avoid all nitrates.

This is her after 4 weeks:

I would like to get down to 187 pounds by October 10th which is 4 weeks from now. Not sure it’s feasible, but I’m going to try like heck. Walking around Disney World is a ton of exercise and takes a huge amount of energy. I would like to be able to do it without the pain.

she is down about 22 pounds now and more than 20 inch's lost!
And we walked 10 miles a day or more in FL--most of it she ran! and best of all---pain free!

          Thanks, all.

I never really thought about the sodium that much. I think you are right.

I hope it's not a dairy thing - cheese it my saving grace with Atkins. Coffee will be really hard to cut down on, but I will try my best.

Any other ideas? Anyone else have a similar experience with Synthroid (if that is part of the reason I am not losing)?

Cheese was a big staller for me when I did Atkins the first time. I still eat it but much less, like every other day and in smallish amounts like 1-2 oz. You are having some for breakfast and then 4 oz later, that is slightly over the limit.

Also, some of the meats you are eating has carbs, where are those carbs coming from? Is there sugar or other fillers in it?

If you are still following induction and you have 2 cups of lettuce for lunch and then have 2 cups of veggies for supper, you are a bit over the limit, but I can't see that being a problem.

Do you drink a lot of diet soft drinks? Do you have sweeteners in your coffee or tea?

Just some things to think about.

Have you tried decaf coffee? Do you like it? Personally, coffee does not stall me.

really push the water drink drink drink. Also try cutting back on the cheese just for a little while if it doesn't help then you can always re-introduce it. Good luck.
