  • Low impact-carb breakfast bars

    Hello, all -

I am having a problem in finding a replacement low impact-carb breakfast bar. I have being buying Nutrilite (Quixtar) Trim Advantage Protein Bars (Mixed Berry Smoothie Flavor) for the last several years. These are slated to be discontinued in the not-too-far-distant future.

I have only been able to find three obvious replacements that are widely available in North America: the Atkins Day Break Bars, the Russell Stover Sugar Free Breakfast Bars and the Slim-fast Low Carb Diet Snack Bars. None of the above have the flavor or texture that I am looking for.

I am aware that any protein bar could be a "breakfast" bar, but "breakfast" bars often have (or had) different flavors and textures relative to "snack" and "meal replacement" bars. Also, there are very few bars of any kind that I like and I do not relish the thought of (again) eating the same bars 2-3 times a day.

Am I missing an option? A forum search didn't turn up any obvious answers, so any help would be appreciated.

    Mike

South Beach has bars that I think are pretty good. There's also Luna bars (not sure they count as breakfast bars, so much as snack bars) umm.. and Fiber One has some bars that are really yummy.

Just a word of warning - even the Atkins bars are not suitable for all phases of Atkins. That is, not if you are following the rules of induction.

Check the ingredients list of each bar you are considering so you can work out which OWL rung they would be 'legal' for, as most contain nuts, soy and grains, so would not be allowed till you are partway up the OWL carbohydrate ladder.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

I'm gonna have to check out these other bars you guys are mentioning. I have only had one type of Atkins bars. They were good but I would like to have other flavors to try. I hope the others are very "carbaceous"!

The only bars I roll up on are the Atkins phase 1 bars. good for all but the induction really.

I think I might have to munty up on a few of these others though, I'm getting sick of these one's.

          Thanks for the ideas

But if you don't like them, why do you eat them?? There are so many other things that are soooo much better.

Oh... I guess I would rather take the time to make my own than risk stalling with something that's not legal for me... plus then you can change what you put in them and cut out anything icky.

I know there is one somewhere around, I think I must have pulled it from here years ago.

Here is one place to find some recipes: Low Carb Luxury: Recipes - Appetizers and Snacks

All of the recipes I've tried off of that site are really yummy and awesome.

I'm quite sure there is sugar in the Fibre one bars, well in the ones they sell here anyway..not sure about the US. Luna bars are also quite high in carbs... I checked Luna bars site and they have sugar in them as well.

All of hese bars also all contain grains which are only for the top rung of OWL or premaintenance and maintenance.

It's really important to read the ingrediets as well as the nutritional info. Just because the carbs in them may fit into your daily carb allowance, does not mean they are legal. The ingredients in them may not be.

I was assuming they were on appropriate rungs to be eating bars. Sorry, I forget that I don't consider the Atkins bars to be acceptable for most rungs. Anyway.
