  • Wake up call!!!

Okay I am really sorry if this is in the wrong place to post, but I am very computer stupid without my husband right behind me...lol. My husband and I decided to start what we thought was the Atkins diet last Friday and the first two days were really rough (Cravings for bad things)...but these last couple of days it has gotten a lot easier and we don't feel very hungry at all. My husband has lost 6 pounds and I have lost 7 pounds....he is currently at 215 needing to get down to 185 and I am currently at 178 needing to get down to 135. Now we were told by a friend that has been successful in the past with Atkins that you eat only meat, eggs, and cheese the first two weeks....nothing else.....sooooo that is what we have been doing. I have been reading some posts on this site and it looks like we are sooo wrong in what we have been doing. I know now that I need to go buy the book for ourselves...however I will not be able to do that for atleast a week (we live paycheck to paycheck..literally) so to last us until next week when we can read the book...I am going to ask some questions and hope to get some responses.

    1. Veggies are allowed in the first two weeks? (We were doing that wrong)
    2. Multivitamins? (We were doing that wrong)
    3. I am currently in Ketosis in the moderate stage, however my husband is still showing negative...we have been eating the same exact thing (I think he eats a little more cheese though) Why is this?

I am so sorry to look like an idiot, but I guess you can say we went into this blind and thought we could do it all that way...but we were way wrong. Thanks in advance for ANY responses.

    Re: Wake up call!!!

no worries, afterall, you can just start over clean and fresh, at least you'll have had a jump start to what living without a lot of carbs is like. The good news is, the actual diet is easier than what you've been doing! Because you DO get to enjoy delicious veggies.

Here is a basic guide for what/how much veggies you can eat:

    Acceptable Foods List

Although, I don't recommend too many things from the atkins website, you could use this for now, but switch to the book when you get it. Also, don't use the recipes from atkins.com!!! The "induction friendly" recipes are anything but!

      Re: Wake up call!!!

I know what you mean about paycheck to paycheck. It was over a month before I bought the book. I was always on this board looking for help. I also used the library copy of the book. Maybe yours has one too! You might also try thriftstores. Get the 2002 version. That is the one that we are using on this board. They still print that version so you can find it in stores but check the year whenever you are ready to start.
That being said I will try to help you with the other stuff.
There is a link to a sticky on here (a really good list of all things you HAVE to do in phase one of Atkins).

Here are some links to help you until you can find your own book.
