    Hi. I was just wondering if it matters what brand you use. The generic ones are a bit cheaper and I was just wondering if they work as well as the others?
    Also, how long after beginning induction should someone start testing? First morning urine is best, right?

    Hey, as for me, I'm a bit of a Keto-stick freak! I do them everyday, sometimes 2-3 times a day.

    Depending on how long it takes for you to burn off all of your sugar, it could be a couple days . So maybe the 2nd or 3rd day they'll change color. It also helps if you excersise to burn the sugar off faster. Generic brands will most likely be the same product but in different packaging (my opinion).

      I too am addicted to the stix. they help me to have a visual acknowledgment of ketosis. For me, I test in the afternoon. for some reason my first urine of the day always tests negative, but from then on I am dark pink to light purple.

          I'm not so much a scale addict but I really like to see that pink stick! I test at least every day sometimes 2 times, sometimes 3 times. It's a visual thing that I think motivates me to stay on track. I usually get the name brand though I think once I bought the generic. Not much difference really, I just get what the pharmacist has in stock.

          I test very faint first thing in the morning too and later on it gets darker. Right now it's a solid "small" on the ketosticks scale. I think after a few weeks it might get up to moderate. There was once a time that I registered purple but that only happened the last time I did Atkins and I wasn't really doing what I should as far as taking in enough carbs in veggies.

          Carry on friends!

          Lets git rid of those fat cells!

            hi im on my 7th day and it killing me as i had a very high sugar intake befor but will get there or insain were can i buy keto sticks from and how do they work does it tell u on them

              I buy mine at Walmart and they are six something for 50 stix and yes it gives you a chart on the bottle that u compare the stick to and it says something like trace low moderate high and gives the colors below that so u can compare your stick to and obviousley the more ketones you are expelling the darker the color! I'm addicted to mine and like everyone else said it is kind of a motivater!

                Well I finally hit "large" on my stix. One step down from dark purple later last night. I've been on induction for just over 2 weeks and moving to the next step. Today, midday, I was at moderate. I haven't hit the scale. I'm satisfied with the color on the stix. Plus I know I haven't cheated so I think I'll weigh in once a week so I don't get discouraged with the fluctuations from fluid... I really am an addict! LOL!

                From my past experience, as long as I don't take in too many carbs I will keep testing positive on the stix. I remember last time I was doing Atkins I really had to cheat significantly to stop turning the stix color. Mind you I was at goal but silly me....you know the drill.

                  Most big Boots stores do them.

                  You just pee on the end of them and the little bit on the end turns colour. Beige.. no ketosis.. anything to to the right of that on the scale on the back of the bottle.. shows ketones in your urine.

                    Hello Everyone,

                    Here is my silly question for the day. Does being in Ketosis mean I am getting thinner!??

                    I am addicted to Keto sticks, love'm as they go a lovely pinky purple. I can test up to three times a day, but have decidd that this is bordering on weird, so I have cut back to once a day.

                    I buy mine from boots as well, though if you are ever going across to France for a 'shop' they are cheaper in the chemists there, even with the exchange rate being crap.....

                      Not necessarily, it means you are burning fat and ketones are spilling into the urine, but does not indicate how much is body fat of what you are burning

                      Also some of us never show ketones in our urine although we are getting thinner.

                        Actually, from what I have read on many low carb sites, a deep purple all the time is a sign of dehydration. I have been moderate to heavy purple for two weeks now. I am drinking about 144 ounces a day and just started a 6x/week exercise routine. I don't feel dehydrated, and I know I am way low on my carbs so this may be the reason. Ketosis is the absence of glucose and sugar and breaking down body fat as a response. There are many low carbers who don't pass ketones in urine but they are burning fat. I still POAS daily, but, like the scale - I don't want the addiction.

                            Tip: Carefully cut each strip in 2 lengthwise. Cut through the pad carefully and it doesn't matter so much how you cut the rest of the way down. Doubles your supply! I like to see the pink, too.

                              Hi. I've been an Adkins gal for 4 years and there really are no other great ways to lose, maintain and feel good. I've tried the rest and always return to the best.
                              That being said, I am a ketostick addict, also. I'll test 1 to 4 times a day. My morning results are always weaker than later in the a.m. or afternoon. They're a great psychological boost.
                              To answer some of the questions: You can pass the stick directly through the urine stream or collect a bit of urine in a paper cup or sterile jar and test from that. After some time (generally from 30-40 seconds) you can compare the color on your strip pad to the chart on the bottle. Except for once a couple of years ago, I use only generic strips. I get them off eBay for about $7 per bottle of 100. If you only test once a day, those 100 strips last a long time!
                              When should you begin testing after beginning your plan? Since it generally takes approximately 48-72 hours for your body to move into ketosis, I generally wait until the third day to test. But that's a personal preference. You can test from the beginning if you want to see the difference in color change from the tan to moving into the "pinkpurple yes-let's-dance" phase.
