  • Atkins PLUS Alli....recipe for disaster or success?

OK, someone asked me about whether you can / should use "Alli" when doing Atkins.... I said "I" wouldn't do it, out of fear of the side effects.... plus I have no idea whether it would screw with my regular medications.....

If you look here at the side effects of Alli,
    Alli Side Effects,
one of them is not allowing the body to process some of the fat in the food eaten. Since Atkins is a high fat diet, I think taking Alli while on Atkins may require one to reserve a toilet all for himself/herself in a far away corner of the world.

That was basically my point.... but not everybody has those side effects.... I know 2 people who use it, and one of them says she feels no side effects at all.

But why do Atkins (or Weight Watchers or Ornish for that matter) and take a weight loss aid?

Are they doubling up to increase their loss or the rate of their loss?

If so, why do they think that? I mean, what's their biological basis for that? Especially in an Atkins-Alli combination, because Atkins is high fat and Alli reduces the fat your system absorbs so the Alli cancels any effects the Atkins high fat diet would have. And you'll end up doing a "low fat" Atkins---which is something Dr. Atkins said NEVER to do.

Or are they doing it as a safety net? That is, they take the weight loss aids because they think they will be able to cheat and/or recover from a cheat with those on-board?

Ummm not to get too gross or technical here... but you have to be VERY CAREFUL with your fat intake while using this pill, which is the exact opposite theory of Atkins. I have known several people who have used this pill (not while on Atkins) and I have heard a couple horror stories when they over-indulged on the fat even a little bit (on a low calorie diet plan)... not gonna get into the gory details but the keywords uncontrolable oily leakage = uber embarassaing public mishaps are involved. I'd stick with the atkins plan, it works without this and this seems really counterintuitive.

Also you would need to plan on doing a lot of laundry of underwear as well as always wear dark coloured trousers or skirts!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I tried it.Going to the toilet wasn't the problem as my B.M.'s didn't increase.I did however have some mild abdomnal cramping. And you could hear my belly growling clear across the room.I gave it up after a few days. Will try it again after I get out of induction, but I plan to stay in it for quite a while longer.
