  • Weight Loss Pills?

At work we are doing a Biggest Loser contest. One of the people I'm competing against is also doing Atkins, and is doing fairly well. He has decided that since the two of us are so close in % lost, he's upping the ante by taking a thermogenic supplement called Ripped Force 5X or something like that. (he put a picture of it on my desk that said "You're Gonna Lose!"

I don't know whether doing this while on Atkins is safe or not, and I don't want to see him get hurt (we're on the same softball team...I need him to pitch!). Does anyone have any input?

...and no, this isn't one of those "my friend" things where I'm really talking about myself. I won't touch weight loss supplements.

      Re: Weight Loss Pills?

You have to be careful taking weight loss pills some are a bit dodgy on what they actually do like . Stacker2 weightloss pills . These do encourage weight loss , but not in the way you expect. You should read up on their website ..
There is also a stacker3 but i havn't tried it.

On their website it says this about the pill. "Stacker 2's proprietary blend is designed for those who are in search of a powerful fat burning diet supplement. This formula when taken as directed and combined with a reduced calorie diet and exercise program may help burn fat, cut cravings and combat diet fatigue.*"

Now i will explain this. It does cut cravings and it does help you lose weight. but most importantly what they dont say about this. This stuff is a tiny pill which is like drinking 10 cups of coffee . im not sure what is in it exactly but i know. If you dont go running or you dont do some sort of excersize you will feel like throwing up and very uneasy and jittery .

I've taken them while on atkins and havn't suffered from any ill side effects. but your talking about a different weight loss pill . all are different.

ripped force 5x . I just looked it up.

It is apperently a Metabolic Accelerator

      Ingredient Details:
Thiamine 0.5 mg, Niacin 10 mg, Pyroxide (as pyridoxine HCl) 0.5 mg, Vitamin B12 (as cyanocobalamin) 50 mcg, Calcium (as dicalcium phosphate) 40 mg, Chromium (as chromium picolinate) 200 mcg, Caffeine 99 mg, 5X Potentiator Blend 130mg [Basical skullcap root black catechu bark (standardized to 60% free-b-ring flavonoids and 10% flavans) and black pepper fruit extract (Bioperine)], 5X Thermoenergetic Blend 198 mg [Cayenne fruit, Rhodiola rosea root extract (standardized to 3% rosavins), cinamon bark and ginger root extract (standardized to 5% gingerols)]
Other Ingredients: Maltodextrin, cellulose, stearic acid, purified water, croscarmellose sodium, silica, magnesium stearate, natural cinnamon flavor and glycerin.
      Suggested Use:
Take one tablet two times a day before a meal.
      Warnings:
Do not use if pregnant or nursing, if you have any chronic disease of the gastrointestinal tract, if you have any other medical condition or are taking any medication. Not intended for use by persons under the age of 18. Consult your physician before use. Contains chromium picolinate, which may enhance insulin sensitivity in diabetics. Contains 99 mg of caffiene. Limit use of caffeine containing products while taking this product, as too much caffeine may cause nervousness, irritability, sleeplessness, and occasionally, rapid heart beat.
*These statement has not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

To me it sounds like a Stacker pill on crack. He should be fine as long as he doesn't Drink Caffinated things like a madman.

I'm only speaking out of experience , every pill can have different side effects on different people . Theres good and bad testimonials about almost all weight loss pills like these.

The most common side effect from taking anything like this is your heartrate shooting threw the roof. so if he is exceptionally overweight this could really put him in danger of a heartattack.

Since this was posted awhile back , May i ask , How is your friend doing? How did his weight loss suppliment affect him?

          Re: Weight Loss Pills?

For some reason i thought you posted it on the third, If you have anymore questions feel free to ask. What i forgot to say earlier is that they are mainly work out pills . if you take them then sit around , you end up with a heart rate threw the roof for a few hours unless you work out.

(well i did say that kind of but thats what i ment to say ) lol

With that much caffeine, he could be sabotaging his Atkins way...wouldn't that be correct? Since caffeine has an impact on insulin levels...?

              Re: Weight Loss Pills?

im not too sure about the side effects of caffeine on insulin levels. I herd along time ago it slows down metabolism but im most likely wrong on that . because if it did , why would it be in the pill.

I actually just started atkins today so i cant be much help beside what knowlage i have already Hopefully someone else will anser your question . I'll look it up and see what i can find.

                  Re: Weight Loss Pills?

He's actually doing well. He's not a big guy...5'9" trying to go from 180 to 165, but he dropped 3 pounds this week. He feels fine, no side effects.

                  Now I'm thinking about it.

                    Re: Weight Loss Pills?

Well you seem to be bigger than he is , Just remember what i said about the pills. they cause high heart rate, and unless you work out it could be bad. I was mainly curious because i have been taking mine since before i went on atkins so i wasn't sure if i was used to it and wouldn't have side effects because of atkins.

                      Re: Weight Loss Pills?

They don't cause your heart rate to go through the roof if you don't workout. I am not sure where you're getting that information from but it's really far off.

It's true, they can cause raised heart rate (which is really horrific if you have had any trouble, or a family history of cardiac issues). IN all honesty though, an increased heart rate from taking a "supplement" like that actually becomes *worse* for you if you're working out at the same time as it's levels are highest in your bloodstream. It will burn off the extra energy that you would get from some of the ingredients, but if you experience increased heart rate just from taking this, I'm pretty sure the warning labels will say to discontinue use.

Weight loss pills aren't any worse for you with Atkins than with any other way of eating... not that they're such a great thing to be taking.

THat said, caffeine can cause a spike in insulin, and it's an addiction. The point in cutting all of that from induction is to go "back to the basics" and break all addictions and have your body get the best chance it can.

                        Re: Weight Loss Pills?

I just said out of personal experience that i get a spiked heart rate. and it lasts for a good long time unless i work out then it goes away faster. I didn't say anything about induction or along those lines i was clearly talking about the pills. Theres more than one way to skin a cat. the saying goes.
Never said it was induction frindly. It might be unhealthy like you said. But not all weight loss supplements have caffine.

I would say he's cheating -- cheating himself and also cheating the Biggest Loser group you're both in. He may loose a few pounds in the beginning but it will come back. Also if he thinks he's "doing Atkins" he's not - he's doing his own version of Atkins, and it will come back to bite him in the end! Too bad he thinks cheating is his only way to win. I hope you are following the rules of Atkins.

Sorry if you took offense to my post. I was just giving the facts.

I think all of the ones I have seen have caffeine or some sort of "herb" with the same effects.

It doesn't matter whether it's induction or not, I was just saying why induction is when you ditch it.

As I already stated, if you have a "spiked heart rate" from taking it, you should check with your doctor, because that's not always normal. Again, sorry if you took offense to me saying the facts.
