really depends how much you have to lose- 15lbs is amazing- good job!
do you think you could do another week? your weight loss will be slower this time but you will still keep losing. maybe you should move to OWL if you are not happy with your menu.
have a look at some of the links for food choices- this one is my favourite Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home

she has lots of great food choices -even when your craving bread- i like the spinach bread- great as a pizza crust too.

hi... can you get up earlier and go to the gym and shower there for work?? exercise will make a big difference not to mention a huge stress reliever... cardio for an hour by treadmill or bike or eliptical or combine them... build up a good sweat... once I am done... I am soaking wet... Lia

How much more do you want to lose? I believe it's Atkins' guideline to start phase 2 when we're about 10-15 pounds from goal weight. Also important is that we're doing okay with restricted eating--not lotsa cravings--and it sounds like you are.

One thing from personal experience: Few years back I stayed on induction until I was AT my goal weight (had about 25 pounds to lose). Once I started phase 2, even a bit too much broccoli brought weight back, fast! It took about a year before my body could handle carbs, even leafy-green ones. So I think I stayed on induction TOO long ... but I'm pretty carb-intolerant as a rule anyway. Just food for thought!

Hope this helps a little. Congrats on your success & good luck!

Beth, that information helps me a lot! I am supposed to be on OWL 1 but am still a bit gun shy of eating too many veggie carbs. I needed to read that.

Re: Lost 15 lbs last day of induction now what?

              Yay!

Well, this probably isn't new news to you, but I just learned from my doc to supplement w/lotsa Omega-3 fatty acids. Not only are they super-healthy, they make you feel full--and they really do, like 20 minutes after you take them and when taken in good-sized doses, plus they really help with weight control.

My doc recommended I take 2400 mg of omega-3 three times per day, preferably with meals just so you don't burp them up (you can get odorless, which helps lots with that). But within those 2400 mg, the ratio of EPA & DHA is super important: should be 2-to-1, respectively (most, but not all, supplements are already dosed that way). Perhaps if I'd have taken those pups more often (they can get a bit spendy), the antidepressants wudn't have hit my waistline so hard during bedrest.

Not only did Atkins recommend Omega-3's (what we DON'T need, by the way, is Omega-6 cuz Americans already get too much of that in our diet), but it's also central to losing weight per lotsa mega-brains, including Dr. Sears of Zone Diet fame (I believe The Zone protocol is similar to what you're doing now on OWL). Doc's office suggested I buy Sears' Omega-3's becuz, tho they're expensive, they're very high quality and concentrated and, in the end, you don't end up paying that much more. Never tried them myself.

Anyway, just thought I'd toss that out in case it's at all helpful. Think skinny!

Thanks Beth Excellent information . I also heard that taking Flaxseed oil which suposedly also has omega fatty acids good for weight loss, heart, cholesterol, constipation, reduce high blood pressure and in some studies have shown it has helps with cancer I bought 1300 mg of it at GNC however not sure if this is too much mg I read that too much can cause internal bleeding so I will check with my Doctor

Re: Lost 15 lbs last day of induction now what?

One study reports that the menstrual period may be altered in women who take flaxseed powder by mouth daily. Due to the possible estrogen-like effects of flaxseed ( not flaxseed oil), it should be used cautiously in women with hormone sensitive conditions such as endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, uterine fibroids, or cancer of the breast, uterus, or ovary. Some natural medicine textbooks advise caution in patients with hypothyroidism, although little scientific information is available in this area. Flaxseed and flaxseed oil may increase the risk of bleeding, based on early studies that show decreased clotting of blood. Caution is advised in patients with bleeding disorders, in people taking drugs that increase the risk of bleeding, and in people planning to undergo medical, surgical, or dental procedures. Dosing of blood-thinning medications may need to be adjusted. In animal studies, flaxseed has increased the number of red blood cells.
LOL, my doctor knows squat about nutrition and when I went to a dietician she told me to eat margarine, I asked her about transfats and she shrugged and said she was told to keep to the party line.) I got the above from Mayo Clinic site which I have used often as they seem to tell both sides of every study. My opinion is anything can be toxic including water, but in moderation...

Re: Lost 15 lbs last day of induction now what?

Congrats. According to the charts in the book, you have a very low metabolic resistance to weight loss. Dr. Atkins wrote that the only people who can benefit from extending Induction beyond the initial 2 weeks are those who have a high metabolic resistance to weight loss because it might correct the metabolic imbalances that hinder weight loss.

Also, it's been the collective experience of ADBB that people who have moderate to low metabolic resistance to weight loss do themselves no favors staying on Induction. They eventually hit a plateau that's only broken by moving to On-Going WEight Loss Phase or they get bored with the Induction menu, cheat and eventually fall off completely.

Furthermore, staying on Induction doesn't guarantee continued weight loss or even the same rate of weight loss you experienced initially.

As for moving on....Dr. ATkins wrote that the last 5-10 pounds should be spent in Pre-Maintenance Phase. We've had some folks here who moved to OWL when they were 5-10 pounds from goal: they learned the hard way that they didn't know enough about how their bodies react to different foods, which made their Maintenance phase more challenging.

As for cycling OWL and Induction, what's the point in that? During OWL, you are still in ketosis/lipolysis. But you are able to eat your CCLL (Critical Carbohydrate Losing Level): you aren't condemned to eating no more than 20 net carbs a day. Additionally, you aren't stuck only the foods listed on the Induction Acceptable Foods list.
