Re: what did you eat "weird" as a child?

Honestly what weird food did I not eat? I grew up in a family owned greasy spoon restaurant. The people that worked there said I had a stomache of steel. I was constantly mixing something up to eat. The thing that sticks out in my mind the most was mixing ketchup and mayonaise and dipping my french fries and chicken strips into it. That or my long ago habit of putting sour cream on everything!

I used to love to take really fresh white sliced bread, pull off the crust then roll it up into a tight ball (it would become like dough) and eat that.

      Playdoh

My favourite food of all time to this day (i miss it terribly!) is kraft dinner with tonnes of ketchup mixed in.
omg, i seriously used to do all of that, minus the apple with salt, never did that - but i LOVED raw potatoes, and i think that mayo on fries is an english thing (my great-grandmother came from england)...

      mmmm "playdoh" lol

one thing i didn't mention was that my cousin dared me to take a shot of vinegar straight once. yup. did it. proudly, I must add! lol

But I also love vinegar on fries (ok, should i say used to...)

I also started putting black pepper on my fries in high school so my friends wouldn't steal them and so I've ALWAYS done that since...

I remember always putting fries on my hamburger (between the bun and burger) same with chips on a sandwich...

my mom, when i was a baby, told me that cranberry sauce (on thanksgiving) was grape jelly and that's how she got me to eat it (i love/miss that now)

ALSO - this isn't "weird" as a child - but more "BAD" as an adult...
since some have mentioned college...it's no wonder I gained all my lost weight from high school back in college (not including the drinking, lol) but I used to go to White Hen and get a LARGE potato soup with a HUGE big Grab bag of cheetos as well as an 8 inch ham sandwich with ALL the fixins...and of course washed it down with a dr. pepper (seriously - this was my dinner easily twice a week, if not more).

I don't even want to THINK how sick that would make me now!!!

More of a German/Belgian thing originally I think, so perhaps brought back to UK by British soldiers who served in Germany during the 'cold war'?

I also loved to squish up the innards of a loaf of white bread and eat it, as well as eat apples sprinkled with salt!

I think vinegar on fries is only unusual in the US, even Mcdonalds gives you vinegar packs with your fries here..I remember asking for it there once and they looked at me as if i was nuts. Malt vinegar on fries in the best (especially if they're homefries from a chip truck!).

I worked in a fish and chip restaurant and 'chip sandwiches ' we popular...

I think they may both originate in Britain.

Love Vineger on fries, that is fair food here. We have one fast food place Mr Hero that has waffle fries that has the packets. I don't eat fish and so every friday at school they served fish, I'd give the fish away and eat tartar sauce sammiches.

Getting off the subject of what we ate, but, since someone mentioned Depression-era food -

my grandparents (and great aunts and great uncles) were fond of cornbread crumbled into a glass of buttermilk or stewed tomatoes eaten straight out of the can sprinkled with sugar.
I like my milk raw, my eggs pastured and my beef grass-fed.
