  • Excedrin, etc

I'm still preparing to start. I am worried about induction headaches as I am headache prone. The meds that I usually take have caffeine in them. Is that okay - since it is recommended that caffeine is avoided?

No, you won't get over your caffeine addiction by continuing to take caffeine - you'll just prolong the pain of withdrawl. The headache only lasts a couple days...if you need to take something, take something without cafeine (Tylenol is one).

It would be best to get over your caffeine withdrawal before starting the diet, that way you don't have a double whammy. The Atkins headache usually doesn't last that long... and it isn't as bad as the caffeine withdrawal headache...

If you decide to stay on caffeine while doing Atkins, then just take your normal pills for the induction headache.

Most people give up caffeine because it causes excess hunger and cravings.

I found and still find that if I am low on carbs and fat, I will still get a headache. For instance today I skimped on carbs while at work and did come home dizzy and with a headache today. It was a crazy day and I wasn't prepared food wise due to my lack of organization. After dinner when I upped the carbs that I needed I was ok. Do be careful to get the foods that you need, do plan ahead, and it should be less of a problem.
