  • Re: Hey Buddies!!!

Hi Buddies, Focus83 I think the reason I quit coming to this group after I got through the Induction because some of the leaders can be a little harsh. I am sorry but making me feel guilty does not improve my chances of succeeding. This may be a small group of buddies but at least we are there for each other with out condeming us. We are adults and we know when we do wrong and I am a little old for the tongue lashings.
I want to succeed at this WOE this time and so I am working a lot harder at staying on plan. I was down another pound today so that is the right direction..

    here for each other

I guess you all know by now that I follow a CKD, a cyclic ketogenic diet. I break ketosis and carb load on Sundays. My carb intake can reach about 500 g, but I'm heavy into bodybuilding am still losing fat like the dickens which justifies it. Last Sunday I ended my carb load at about 10:00 p.m. with 2 cups cooked white rice. For dinner, it was IHOP's (3) Harvest Nut Grain pancakes with their syrup, sliced bananas on top chased with a tall glass of milk.
Breakfast was 1 cup Katscti whole grain cereal, the spring one with cranberries, one large shortbread cookie and one cup whole milk in a bowl, mixed together. I think I had that also during the afternoon as a snack. I forgot the rest of my meals since I'm not home and do not have my journal with me. I had egg noodles along there sometime. I forgot really. I know it totaled over 4,200 calories. 55-60% were carbs.

Does the CKD work? Well, I lost 40-45lb fat and gained quite a few pounds muscle since May 24th. of this year. But again. I work out intensely.

Wow Norman that is some meal. congratualtions on how well you are doing. I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy as well as the type 2 diabeties. The cardiomyopathy is a hereditary disease that is the heart rate goes to high it will cause sudden death. Unfortunately we have no idea exactly what that heart rate could be. Any way the only exercise I can do safely is walking and a mild aerobic exercise just keeping an eye on the heart rate. I would love to try weights but since i am not allowed to keep my arms above my head this could be hard to do. Oh well I am getting healthy one step at a time..

Hi Buddies! Just wanted to say have a great weekend. It is beautiful weather here and I am trying not to complain that it is too warm because in 2 months I will be complaining about cold and snow probably. lol

Have a ton of yard/garden work to do. Meh. I am torn between doing it or saying and just going to the beach instead. Instead I think yard work today, beach tomorrow.

I already walked today so I am happy about that.

          Have fun this weekend! Jane

Focus, you are doing great. A 7lb loss is awesome. Are you going to continue on induction for a bit?

I don't know what to do. I think I need to back off dairy and see what that does for me.

Hey Jane, well i will try to keep doing induction but i cant stick to it i always end up eating something else on another rung. Think might do low carb instead of atkins because i find it so hard to stick to each stage.

Hope you see some great results soon

Helllooooooo Buddies! I have missed you! I have missed Atkins ... so has my butt, which has gotten bigger since last I checked in. I got sloppy and didn't follow the program and the scale laughed at me this morning... laughed in my face! It said: "You nimrod! You gained 10 lbs." Well ... what could I say in reply? I went on a big ol' carb toot and paid the price. Meh ... it happens.

BUT...I have been properly chastised and will now toe the line. Really!

OK, now I gotta go back through this threadand read how all of you have been doing !

OK, Day Two and back in the saddle again, as they say !

First, a shout-out to my Buddies Focus, Norman, Jane, Sham, Hilda, jaybee, Caramella, Laura, Sassy, wellkept, Moniegail, Ashan and I hope I didn't miss anyone Sorry I missed your birthdays, Sham and Focus; and very sorry to hear Sham had swine flu! Anyone heard from her? I left a message on her profile, but no response yet.

Decided to increase the intensity of my workout at the gym ... even though I only use the treadmill (for an hour at a time), I figured I could rev up my metabolism by picking up the speed every five minutes or so. I warmed up, worked it up to 3.5 mph for five minutes and then sped it up to 4.0 mph for a couple of minutes; up and down like that for an hour and I worked up a pretty good sweat!

Wish my husband would consider Atkins, but he is such a carb junkie. He has quite a gut on him. Still, he goes for his annual checkup and the doctor can never find anything wrong (except the extra pounds). And he's 71! So he's still tucking into the cookies and crackers and I'm gnawing on a Slim Jim. It would be lovely to purge the house of all that tempting garbage, but I...will...be...strong!

Anyway, hope to hear how everyone is doing. Stay low carb and have a great one!

welcome back jaybee and floodette hope you both are well.

Nothing much to report here except ive given my scales away to a family member who i dont live with to look after. Means i cant see which directions they are going so have to be extra good to get them to give a nice surprise next time i jump on them. It was a hard thing to do, i love those scales

                          Hi FLdoodette:

HIT! High Intensity Principle...it works great for a metabolic boost and does enhance fat burning. What I do is walk at 3.0-3.5 mph then I sprint, as fast as I can go for about 50-75 meters, then walk again...sprint...etc. in intervals. You really burn fat that way and boost your metabolism for hours there after. Good to hear from you again. I never heard from Sham again, I hope she's okay. H1N1 is a very severe illness in a certain population distribution...I hope she's okay. Darn, I really do..she's so young...

WOOT! Norah and Jaybee...so great to hear from you both!

I am exhausted. Now my son is sick...I thought it was from him doing football practice in the heat & humidity but now I think he is just "sick".

Hope everyone is well. Talk to you soon! Jane

                              Hi Focus! *waves enthusiastically*

Aw, Jane, sorry your son is under the weather. Hope you don't catch the bug, too!

Thanks for the feedback, Norman .... I appreciate it! Now I'm worried about Sham, though. *fingers crossed*

Since I cut way back on the carbs (not exactly Induction level, but close) I have just a touch of "Atkins flu" as my body recalibrates, but that's okay ... I take that as a good sign !

Ugh, our truck is in the shop and the bill is gonna be a whopper ... almost $900! (well, the truck IS 9 years old and this is the first trouble we've ever had with it). We need to get five more years out of that sucker, so spend, we must. Cheaper than a new vehicle, for sure!

OK, stay well and stay safe out there, Buddies

I got two cars and an SUV. I use the SUV when I'm back on campus. I hadn't used it in 6 months or so. It cost me $200 to flush out the radiator, change the oil, air filter, differential grease, etc. I use the SUV only to school because I have a faculty parking sticker on it, and want to hear the piece de resistance? A faculty sticker at my University cost us, who teach, $208.00 per year.
