  • Hey Buddies!!!

We used to have a Buddy Thread when I first started Atkins and it really helped me. I believe it helped the others too. It would be great if we could start it up again! So old and new alike, come on in, introduce yourselves and let's have fun.

    Ok, I'll start.

Hi! I'm Carmella from New York City. My husband and I have been on a rough road with dieting. When I did Atkins last year, it was really helpful. After falling off really badly and even just recently, I'm buckling down, taking responsibility for my own health and getting back on track!

Looking forward to getting to know you!

Cara!!! Woooooo.. "the crowd goes wild" lol How the heck have you been?? It's great that we can start this again.. as it does help not only us, but so many other's as well.

Thank you Elizellen for giving Cara and myself the idea to start a new thread.

For those that are new and don't know me, I'm Sassy from BC Canada. I am the only one in my family that is in need of Atkins, but everyone can benefit from a healthy tasty meal! Some days they have there own thing, and other days they eat Atkins friendly.. and they don't mind at all. I have to admit though, that when I was making alot of stir-fry's, my youngest son was beginning to go green in the face from having them too often.

    My Story

This is my second time around on Atkins.. technically my third.. as I started on July 17th 2008 and tapered off about mid November.. I was 4 months in and 47lbs lighter! I had started a new job and that's where things went all crazy for me. I have to figure out the way to balance work and Atkins. When I was home 24/7 it was easy for me to make Atkins work.

Even though I went astray and well off plan.. I had weighed myself on Jan.1st 2009 with the intention to commit once more. My last weigh-in prior to this was on Nov.20th 2008, and I was 178lbs and the results of my weigh-in on Jan.1st 2009 was.. 177lbs! I was so happy to see that I had gone down even if by only one pound, because I was very worried that I had gained. So as of Jan.1st 2009 my weight was 177lbs (the lowest I've been since about the end of 1993! I had also lost another 3.5in which gave me a grand total of 54in. lost!

Well what do they say about good intentions??.. The road to **** was paved with good intentions.. lol.. I never did end up turning things around back in Jan. As a matter of fact, I got laid off from my job at the time and then a week later began the process of starting a new job. I just couldn't find the commitment level needed to make this work.. and it shows.. After seeing some pictures and a video that my dh took of me when we went to the driving range on May 2nd.. I decided it was time to get back on plan..

May 4th 2009.. I weighed in at 185lbs (which was a downer but it could have been ALOT worse!) and I had gained back 12.25in. Yikes!! I have to admit I'm not fully back on plan as of yet, but I am getting there and the things I have changed are already making a difference. I weighed in on May 11th and was down 5lbs! I have decided for now that I am only going to take my measurements once a month and weight myself weekly.

Things I know that I need to improve.. eating habits (don't eat often enough) .. eat only allowable foods .. drink ALOT more water .. rejoin some challenges as they really do help .. once I do these things, then and only then will I feel like I'm doing this right and will know I'm fully committed once more.

Coming back to ADBB is a huge step in the right direction.. as I know that as I came here less and less.. Atkins and I started slipping farther and farther from one another.

So here's to all of you and to me.. may we make the best of this and get the ultimate in rewards..

I look forward to chatting with my old buddies and making many new ones too!!!

    Sassy

          Cara -

How are you and your dh doing? Where abouts are you in regards to your Atkins journey? Are you on a particular rung or doing the extended version of induction?

Have you created any new scrumptious meals? Do you ever take pictures of meals that you or your dh prepare?

How are you doing with weighing in? Do you weigh-in weekly and take your measurements?

What are you guys up to this weekend?

          Sassy

PS. I sure hope to see some new people join us here.

Just popping in to say Hi and welcome back to your ADBB family

BTW, Elsie (in case you think you are seeing double) I copied your post from the other thread to this thread as I thought it would fit in here better than at the end of the old thread.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

              Re: Hey Buddies!!!

Morning Cara, Sassy, Elsie, and new buddies I haven't met yet!

I was part of the buddy list for awhile as 2MuchMike. I fell away from the boards and fell off the wagon (funny how those two things seem to happen together). Basically I've been trying to get started again every week since last September without success. I don't even know how much I really weigh right now since I'm too heavy for my home scales.

Lately I've started watching the Biggest Loser and am really inspired. They've been so successful and are so happy! That could be me. I just finished watching the week 18 episode where the guy about my size and age, with the same bad knees I have, walked a marathon. The part that really hit me was when his son said he had never seen his father that skinny. My kids have never seen me when I wasn't overweight.

I want to change that. I'm re-starting right now, no more waiting for things to be just right. I hope the new buddy list keeps going - it was a huge help to me last summer.

It's a beautiful day here - I hope it's beautiful where you are. Let's all have a good low carb day and loose some weight together!

                Re: Hey Buddies!!!

Hi everyone i would love to join your buddy thread, i always feel i need so much help on this diet because there are so many temptations lurking around and one bite can lead to disaster!!

A lil about me. My name is Jen and i live in London, UK. In 2006 i was really unwell and was weighing in at 25st i couldnt walk, could barely breathe and just felt like i was dying. I had to go into hospital where they put me on a strict diet and from that diet i lost almost a st in a week. After afew weeks the diet changed as my appetite changed and it was a pretty low carb diet but not exactly atkins. I went from 25st to 14st in year and a half and then i was getting some bad side affects like i was losing so much hair and it scared me into eating again. Thats when the weight piled on. To be honest i wasnt losing my hair from doing atkins, i was losing it because i was really extreme with my dieting. There were days when i wouldnt eat and other days i would just survive on a apple. Since about Oct/Nov 2007 ive gone from 14st.4lbs to 19st.3lbs i feel so disappointed in myself that i let myself put on all that weight. So after several failed attempts at this since Nov 08 i only have just stated up again because i dont want to get any worst. Im on day 7 today and so far have lost 6lbs which i am very happy about. I would be happy with a 2lb lost each week. Ive already calculated it out that if i lose 2lbs every week until xmas i would get down to my lowest!! *jumps for joy* its a long journey but i am so focused now. I am trying to retrain my thinking so that i stop seeing it as a diet and a way of life. I know everyone says that but i always got it in my head that i could diet reach my goal and then eat normally again, not possible!!!

Anyway sorry for the rambling, hope you dont mind me joining your thread.

                  Re: Hey Buddies!!!

Yikes about the hair loss... I know what you mean. I used to go to extremes with whatever I did, exercise, diet etc, I was impatient for results and there were usually two effects: 1) my hair did not like it, lost several every day, and 2) I felt grumpy and tired all the time.

Then it occurred to me I also lost those days of my life, they will never come back. I was not happy and that was why I was doing everything in the first place. After this realization, no matter who said what, I started to do things in moderation. My hair thanked me, my mood improved and my health was better. So that was it for me.

                    Good morning Buddies

I'm happy to see some of the old buddies finding us here and the new buddies are more than welcome!

Mike AKA BanjoNut - I'm so happy to see you again!! I'm sad to hear what you been going through, however I can on some scale relate as I have been fighting the whole battle of making this work and sticking with it. I also saw the very last show on the biggest loser.. WOW.. it was amazing and truly shows you... it can be done if one wants it bad enough. I'm glad you're back and I look forward to celebrating our success's together! ~big hugs~

Elizellen - Thank you again for helping us get the buddy group back up and running. I hope you're having a great weekend.

Elsie - It's great to see you again my friend!! I'm so sorry to hear about all that you're going through right now. I pray your surgery goes well, and that once you're on the road to recovery.. that we'll see you here again like before! I miss you Elsie.. please be well. ~Big huggerz~

Jen AKA Focus and Kawispice - Welcome to the group.. I hope we'll be able to get to know one another better, and lend the support that is so greatly needed in this battle of weight-loss. It's amazing how they go hand in hand.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!!!

Today I weighed in and lost 2lbs, so I'm almost at my lowest once more! I just need to lose 2 more pounds to reach it. Lastnight I met up with a fellow Atkinerz that lives in my neck of the woods, and we went walking around a lake here. We did a couple of laps and talked and talked.. it was awesome!! She is a huge inspiration, as she has lost over 200lbs and is still losing! She is now in a way my new subconscious LOL.. when I told her that my dh and I would probably be going to Starbucks later lastnight.. I knew I would end up having an X-large Mocha.. Ummm yeah right.. that went over like a led balloon!! Hahahaha.. Soooooo I'm happy to report that dh and I did go and I had an X-large light reg. coffee with my sweetener and some cream. *I felt very proud of myself* So today is going to mark day one of starting off with a clean induction! I just have to tell myself.. NO CHEATING! No matter how small it seems!!

Well that's me for the moment.. going to get ready to go to the driving range soon and use my new clubs!!

                    Sassy

                      Re: Hey Buddies!!!

                      Morning all:

Elsie - hope you're back on your feet soon. We have to have you in the buddy group!

Focus - welcome to the Buddy List and congrats on the 6 pounds!

Kawispice - welcome. I see you're down 8 pounds - way to go!

Sassy - good job not giving in on the mocha. Is your walking buddy an ADBB member? I always like reading about the people that have lost huge amounts since I need to loose a huge amount.

Mochas aren't my weakness - it's soft drinks. Kicking the diet coke habit is going to be key for me. I'm truly an addict, and I can see that drinking pop leads to increased eating.

I went to the local clinic yesterday because they have a scale that will weigh me. I'm at 406. That's a pretty ugly number, but it's where I'm at and where I have to start.

Hope everybody has a good day and stays strong.

good morning everyone!!! when you guys are dieting do you feel slimmer at all? i dont know if its my imagination but i keep thinking my tummy is getting slimmer and when i was brushing my teeth i swear my double chin is reducing i love it although im not 100% convinced. I need to keep at it and hopefully see a more obvious result so that i actually believe it. it feels so good though. anyway hope everyone else is doing well.

Hi everyone!! Hope everyone's doing well. I had a bad weekend, but I got right back on track on Monday. I'm even keeping an actual hard copy food journal and a meal planner with DH.

focus, sometimes when I look in the mirror I think I see a difference. DH tells me he sees it too. Have you noticed your clothes feeling looser? That's the one of the best feelings.

Hey Caramella, Yes i do see a difference in my clothes. like my tops are fitting me better and my pants arent always so tight. Before my pants used to be too low and my top would always come up cos its too small and i end up showing my midriff not a nice sight. But now i feel more confident. Even walking i feel abit different. I know its only early days but its making me feel good.

Just wondered what you guys and girls are eating as your lunch and meals? i want to add abit more variety into it so that i dont get bored easily.

                              Morning everybody!

Sounds like you're doing well Focus - it's a great feeling when the clothes start fitting looser. As for lunches, my standard fare is a large salad with either chicken or tuna.

Caramella - I think keeping a food log is a good idea. I kept one for just a few days and that's what got me re-started this time. I was shocked when I saw it all on paper. I had no idea I was drinking as much pop as I was, and no idea I was spending so much money. Good job getting back on track.

Hope everyone has a great day!
