    Hi Buddies!

Norah, I know how difficult it can be with auto repairs. We had a nightmare with our van...always broken, in the shop, costing us money (while we were making payments on it still ). Got our Suv and it spoiled us...it has been a dream! Now has 120,000 miles on it and has been in the garage for only one major repair about a year ago. We added a new car a few months ago because dh's job changed and he does a lot of driving right now and we needed a second car. After the nightmare with my van (and it was a nightmare), I have to have a reliable car.

And hope you are feeling better from the induction flu.

I like the idea of the HiT...I will have to try that.
Norman, I hope you get a good parking spot for what you pay for your sticker.

I tried to contact Sham again but no word...

Hope you all have a great day!
    Jane

Well, Norman, that just ain't right!

Yep, Buddies, when you got wheels, you got woes ... it's a sad fact of life ... The folks who live in cities and use public transportation probably have the right idea.

Well, I may be $856.25 poorer, but the truck runs great now ... next week, we also have to spring for two new tires, so it will be $1,000 by the time everything is ship shape and bristol fashion. So glad we only have the one vehicle! (Well, not entirely true ... there's my husband's motorcycle, but it seldom goes haywire and is good on gas, as you might expect ).

Oh my ... sorry to babble so :P ... Have a GREAT kind of day, Norman, Focus, Jane, and all who follow!

Arrggghhh.... Sorry FLdoodette...And about public transportation in Miami:

In once decided to take the bus to campus from my townhouse that is, get this, about 3 miles from school. I figured: "well, what the hay, I'll beat the traffic."

It took me two and a half hours to get to the campus. I had to make a transfer which was not in sink with the initial bus route I took. While waiting in this shoddy little shelter, we had your typical south Fl. squalls, I mean 1.5" of rain and heavy thunder and lightning. I got drenched to the bone. I would of done it in 45 minutes if I would of walked the distance at a good pace. I would of shown up to class sweating and smelling like a trash dump but I would of made it in time. Needless to sat I was an hour late to class. Luckily, GF, who's a math professor, was on campus that day. She bummed me a ride back to the town house.

Cars, you gotta love them or hate them. In Fl they are necessary. It just rains too much and it is very hot. I must admit though, Miami is gorgeous during the winter.

By the way, just to break from monotony about dieting etc., anybody out there into astronomy or just space stuff? If so, their is this web site called Heavens Above. Just register your home's location in latitude and longitude (degrees, minutes, seconds). You can figure out that info by using Google Earth, etc, and focusing on your house. It gives the coordinates. With the free, totally no spam registration, you can look up astronomy stuff but better, it gives information about when satellites etc. are passing over your home. There is a link there for magnitude of satellite object and you can start with a magnitude 3.5 or less. (The less the magnitude the brighter the object). You'd be amazed how bright the Hubble space telescope and the International Space station are. You do not need binoculars. These things can be as bright as an airplane or even, at times as the moon! A pinpoint yes, but very, very bright.
Also you can see satellite "flares." In order to keep these things in orbit electrically powered, satellites have these long, rectangular solar panels that reflect sunlight and if the light is reflected back at you, you see the satellite flare up sometimes brighter than the moon. The Iridium series of satellites, numbering in the hundreds, are notorious for producing flares. Those satellites are low orbit and used for communications networking.
Also, when you spot an old rocket body or something, even some satellites, they are tumbling thus the brightness changes from dim to bright and so forth.

Well, here's the link's location, I'll make it easy for those interested:

            http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...Q8h7FFmTNOTtcA

You can just go outside and look up, that's all that's needed.

Here's a link to NASA'a official web site for satellite tracking and the pop up window shows the satellites in real time. Yup, right now. You'll be amazed how many satellites are in orbit around our planet. It boggles the mind.

            NASA - Science@NASA J-Track 3D

You can zoom in on earth, rotate, etc. just by using your mouse button similar to google earth.

Here what an Iridium Flare looks like:

I hope some have fun with this. I like hobbies a lot. I pursue many.

Have a great time, buddies! Stay healthy and focused and above all God Speed to you all.

LOL ... oh, Norman, the commute from h*ll ... I gotta say, you made me guffaw with that one! And, you're right, I'm a Floridian, too, and we NEED our wheels. It's hot, buggy and muggy. The winters where I am can be pretty chilly ... temps in the 20s are not uncommon. I'm in the Ocala area, where the vehicle of choice seems to be a big ol' Ford 4x4 truck with a gun rack and an angry Bubba driving it, badly .... eeeeeee! Run away! Run away!

Very cool links, btw ... thanx! It is fascinating to contemplate, never mind look at, what's actually out there, floating about. Amazing.

Hi Ms. Jane and Ms. Focus!

Well, my Dood has gone off to do his volunteer stint at a local half-way house for at-risk youths (he's a retired baker, so he helps in the kitchen), and that means a nice quiet house for a few hours .... bliss . God bless him but that man can TALK.

OK, Buddies ... I wish you peace, love and a great low-carb day !

                  Happy weekend!

Hope everyone has a relaxing one. The weather is kind of "iffy" here so I will probably just do things inside (like laundry) and watch baseball.

Two of my boys start school this week so also need to get them ready for that. They go to a private school that has a pretty strict dress code which actually makes life easier for me. I am not actually ready for school to start..it does seem like their summer vacation just started. But getting back into a schedule will probably be good for all of us.

                  I weighed myself yesterday..was positive I had lost weight..was thinking 1-2lbs. It was 2 oz. At least I didn't gain I guess.

Well hope everyone has a good weekend!

                    Hi Jane and Norman!

Well, Ms. Jane, take your loses where you can get 'em .... no matter if it's a pound or an ounce, they're all victories! I like baseball, too ... who's your team? I inherited my love for the Cubs from my mother, but we also root for the Rays

Yes, Norman, Ocala is pretty .... all those rolling hills and granddaddy oaks and horse farms; Miami certainly has it's charms, though! I grew up in Venice, so I miss the beach. We're pretty landlocked here.

Hey, guys, my husband found the greatest thing at a garage sale yesterday ... a treadmill for $10! It's vintage but it runs pretty well; my gym membership runs out next month so I was looking for something to replace it. Hot diggity! The only bummer is that our house is so tiny, the only place for it is out on the screened porch. Norman knows all about Florida's lovely humidity! But we'll just keep it covered when not in use.

OK, Buddies ... hope the rest of your weekend is super fine!

Hey Norah! I am a Red Sox fan. Funny because I am from NY and my family are all Yankee fans. lol
I do like the Cubs too because I have a friend in Chicago that is a die hard Cubs fan. So I kind of follow them and root for them. I see someone just bought the Cubs...I didn't know they were for sale, not that I have that kind of money anyway.
Thanks also for your positive words about weight loss.
Grats to your hubby on the treadmill find. What a deal! I kick myself now for getting rid of my treadmill a few years ago.
Well, the Sox game starts soon and I need to grab some laundry. Take care!

Family gatherings must be interesting, Jane, what with you supporting "the enemy" ... LOL! My husband is from Mass. but he was an Atlanta Braves fan for years (they did start out as the Boston Braves, after all); he's kind of given up on them recently: "They suck," is his brutal assessment. I've got him rooting for the Cubs, too But we do watch the Red Sox, just out of loyalty for his home state and all And it's always fun when the Sox beat the Yankees ... my apologies to your clan! ;D

                          Hey Norah!

How are you doing? I'm torn between 2 baseball teams: NY Mets and, of course the Fl. Marlins. I used to like the Pirates and the Cubs, especially when Harry Caray was their announcer.

My dad use to take me to Shea when I was growing up in NYC.

By the way, just keep hydrated when you are treading in the patio.
Talk to you later and have a great weekend.

Managed 4 days away from the scales and i didnt put on. that was always my biggest fear that if i didnt use the scales constantly my weight would creep up. and ive lost 2lbs this week. Next challenge 2 weeks without a scale I am going to up my exercise so that i guarentee a big loss! have been walking loads but not doing as much cardio as i should. I used to be obessed with the gym, wish i still were. Norah love the threadmill find!! such a bargain!! well done you.

I was taking part in the 6wec and i just measured myself to get my stats. lost 5lbs in the 6 weeks but ive lost 9inchs all over.so guess im happy with that. want to lose double that during the next 6wec though

hope everyone has a great sunday!
