Hi Buddies! So enamored of my treadmill, it's difficult getting off it ...well, the weather does keep the sessions down to no more than a half hour at a clip, and I hear you about keeping hydrated, Norman! I swear I sweat off five pounds this morning (no, I didn't sneak a peek at the scale, but I sure wanted to !)

Oh yes, Jane, I know it's a bear getting motivated about the exercise. What's your preferred method of torture? Walking? Swimming? Aerobics? There should be aerobic blogging ... we'd all be skinny!

Focus - Pounds are great but INCHES are soooo much better ... congrats!!!

Hi, Lissy'sMommy, and welcome ... good job on the 10-lb. loss ... doesn't it feel great?!

Oh yes, Norman, Harry Caray ... what a character! I thought it was great the way they paid tribute to him after he died. Did you see that Cubs game where all the fans were issued enormous black glasses, in honor of Harry's famous specs? It was fabulous. My husband, who is a fantastic mimic, used to do a hilarious rendition of Harry's take on his television partner's name: "Schteeeve Schhhhhtone."

Yup, I remember those glasses! I remember the Cubs wearing a black band on their sleeves.

      Hi Lissy's mom.

Fldoodette, I lose up to 6 lb after a workout. I don't mind jumping on the scale. I do it 2-3 times per day, when I walk past it. To me, it kind of gives me a feedback about water retention. I'm not all that worried about weight loss because I know it's a matter of time. I don't have too much to lose. Maybe, at max, 10-20 lb. so no big deal.

Hi Norman If I had to watch those daily fluctuations in my weight I would go postal; that's why I try not to weigh more than twice a month; in fact, after my Sept. 1 weigh in, I won't do it again until Oct. 1. I think guys just have it easier losing the weight; my husband can lay off the cookies and drop 20 lbs. in a month ... I cut the carbs AND the calories and exercise like a fiend and still will lose maybe 5 lbs., 10 if I'm lucky. It's NOT FAIR! D*mned estrogen !!!

Anyhoo, it's another scorcher (no doubt even worse in Miami), so every day I thank the Air Conditioning Gods for that cool, dry air ... okay, Buddies, hope you have a terrific week!

          Hi Norah:

Here I am getting ready to get my backside into school tomorrow. Us guys tend to lose weight easier than women because we tend to have greater muscle mass and also tend to have higher testosterone values. The hormonal difference is directly proportional to the amount of fat to muscle mass a man carries. I'm way under 20% bodyfat and am heavily muscled so I have a hard time keeping my weight up. I've been working out all of my life so I carry quite a bit of muscle mass compared to the average "Joe." I gained weight because of school and family situations. I had a lot of stress trying to run the family business, an ailing father who passed away November 2008, no brothers or sisters, and a mom who has advanced COPD and glaucoma. On top of it all I majored in Chemistry, minored in math and physics. The academic work load was indescribable.

I hit the bottle and beer. I became a full blown alcoholic. Functional, but self destructing. I ballooned up to 260 lb in 4 years and I was doing absolutely no exercise. I was eating very badly also. I made a rough estimate on Fit Day and I believe I was consuming about 3000+ cal just on booze daily. My blood pressure zoomed so high that I was on 4 BP meds. Yes, 4! Cardura, Maxime, Benazapril and Diltiazem. On top of that, I was taking 4 mg of Ativan per day.

My GP wanted to send me to a Cardio specialist because on the BP meds, my BP was at 150/90. My resting heart rate was 110. He flat out told me that I was a walking tragedy. I was headed towards a heart attack.

4 months later, I'm off of all meds. My BP has stabilized at 107/72. My resting heart rate averages 68-72. I do not do that much cardio. Shame on me. I'm into bodybuilding but I still get in a few walking sessions a week. Sometimes I jog a bit, and sometimes I sprint, about 100 m, for intervals.

I'm 5'11" tall, I am weighing 202-204 lb and have gained back about 8 lb lean muscle mass. I have pictures of me before, now, and will post my after pics when I reach goal. I plan on reaching goal just before or during the Xmas holidays. I'll post my pictures then.

It's no big deal. I started dieting pretty much to save my body, mind and spirit. It was personal decision I made back in April. I quit booze cold turkey with no support groups or psychiatrist to help me. I'm not against support groups or medical intervention, don't get me wrong, because everybody is different.

This is important! Who ever is reading this tread, do not get off of any medication. Always, and I mean it, seek the advice of a physician! You can kill yourself or worse.

Good, I got that of my chest. I wouldn't want anyone to haphazardly do something that could seriously damage their bodies. Sorry Norah, the comment was not focused on you but a little disclaimer in case a newbie is reading this tread.

So, here I am getting ready for school. I met with people that haven't seen me since March of this year yesterday and they were absolutely blown away. They all wanted me to tell them how I radically transformed my physique. By the way, what a handsome couple in that picture embedded in your signature.

Take care Norah! And talk to you later.

          Norman

              Hi Norman

Thank you for sharing your story! Very impressive and inspiring. Especially being able to get off those meds, not to mention the hooch. Alcoholism is a bugger. I come from a long line of alcoholics myself. It's a nightmare. I admire you for taking charge of your life and battling through all of the stress. Bravo! Looking forward to seeing your pics (and thanks for the compliment!).

Hi Hilda Pleased to hear from you, too! Yard work is good exercise, I agree ... sweaty, but good

Hello to all Buddies! Keep it real and keep it Atkins

Buddies! So sorry, I have about 1 minute to type something. My puter is down and in the shop to be fixed. Currently on my hubby's computer which I am not technically "allowed" to use...so I have to make it snappy. I feel like a teenager sneaking around.

Just wanted you to know I hope to be back in a day or two..maybe next week. Miss you all and thinking of you!! Jane

Hi Jane! And focus, Norman, Hilda and ALL Buddies!

Things are picking up in the tropics and as long as the storms keep getting sucked back into the Atlantic, I'll be a happy camper But, when you live in Florida, you just take 'em as they come. Right, Norman?

Meanwhile, it's a sunny day so off to do some stuff outside.

Hi Buddies! Anyone home? Hellloooooooooo. No? Oh well ... it is the weekend and other things beckon, after all ... The Dood and I went on a nice motorcycle ride this morning, taking the back roads and enjoying the scenery, stopping at a little eatery for eggs, and then heading home because the was beginning to make us feel rather fried-egg-like ourselves ... whew! It's a scorcher.

So .... check ya later, then ... Peace!

Hello Buddies! I got my computer fixed and got it back again today.
Now, if I only had time to use it.

I can't believe how it feels like fall here. But we have had some beautiful weather this week. Its funny because we had about one week of hot and humid weather and then BAM...right to fall. We had one night where the temperatures got down to 38. I woke up and my heat was running.

I have been holding on fine with my eating. I refuse to weigh myself right now though, because if I get on the scale and see I have gained again, I don't know what I will do.

Well have to run. Busy here since the kids are back to school. Hope everyone is well! Jane

                            Hello!
Norah, I keep meaning to say I love the new picture you put up. Very sweet.

Well, of course since I said I wasn't weighing myself..what did I do today?? And, holy Whoosh! Almost 6lbs lost in just under a week. Not sure why that happened but thrilled it did. My diet really hasn't changed much in the past few weeks, other than I did back off dairy a bit (not having it every day).

The sun is shining and need to get busy. Hope everyone has a wonderful day and it isn't too warm down in FL for Norah and Norman.
