    Hi JMG:

Just eat the B.B.Q. meat and salad. Just try to keep your carbs under 29 g.

This was probably a typo; should be 20. (Just want to point it out for the new folks.)

          Hi JMG,

Going on Induction and deciding right away you are going to have to go off isn't a good sign. There are plenty of things you can have a a BBQ--all the meats without sauces you want, cheese (3 ounces), big salad, raw veggie stix, deviled eggs. OK it is a big do and you may not be able to hold down quantities to the 3 cups if you are chowing down with family all day, but there is no reason why you can't keep your choices legal even if you go over in portions a bit. And if you bring a big jug of water and drink 8 oz before you eat the next whatever, you will be full and get your H20 in also. Stick to the plan. Its only two weeks and there will always be an event to derail you so fix that now. Not cheating is not negotiable.

It'll be a good chance to build up willpower. Like slapshot said look for the fattiest pieces and they will kill cravings faster than anything else. Good luck to ya.

Like the others said...there will always be a BBQ, birthday party, potluck, holiday...I could find excuses to cheat everyday. If you are serious about making lasting changes in your life, this BBQ is your first opportunity to prove to yourself that you can do it - BBQd meat, no sauce & salad (bring your own dressing, if possible).

I've only been on plan 2 months, and I'd swear there's something every week - I choose to stay on plan & still enjoy myself, plus no guilt.

I have proved to myself that I can celebrate, and enjoy BBQ's and going out, or Vacation, and still stay on track. That was a challenge, and it feels so go to be in control. Love Atkins way of life!!!

I think bbqs are way better than going out for a meal because you can stay be atkins without anyone commenting on what you eat. You can do it!! just plan ahead about what you think you can eat and how much have fun.

When i have a function to go to, and i know there will be lots of illegal foods, i make my fav. dish and bring it along, i make enough for everyone to sample, but i make sure that I get my helping of it first. Then go from there, add to your plate what you know is legal. Where there is a Will, there surely is a way. YOU can do it, if that is truly your desire.

I also find BBq's easier than going to a resteraunt etc. Lot of meat, and veggie based dishes. Now, I am really thinking I should grill some veggies on the oven as well. Mmm, hungry.

                        Re: Dilema

So far, I've been to 3 BBQs: Mother's Day, an anniversary, and a graduation.

Since this is your daughter's graduation (congrats to her, by the way!), you're in luck because YOU have control over part of the menu. Therefore, make sure YOU have food that you can eat.

                        Make sure:

                        1. There is a green salad that you can eat
                        2. There are appetizers, like devilled eggs, you can eat.
                        3. There are hot dogs (if you like them) or sausages that you can eat.
                        4. There are sauces and dressings that you can eat.
                        5. There are meats/seafood that you can eat.
                        6. There are beverages that you can drink.
                        7. There is at least 1 dessert that you can eat.

Like I said, you are in a good position because you will be able to control a good deal of the menu.

By the way, no one will care if you don't eat the apple pie or the potato salad. They will be too busy stuffing themselves with food to notice what you are or aren't eating. And no one will be offended if you don't "try one bite" of the chicken salad they bought from the supermarket deli. At the 3 BBQs I've attended so far, no one noticed that I didn't eat the cake or the ice cream or the cookies, etc.

Spend the day bonding with friends and family rather than stuffing yourself with food. It will be more spiritually filling.

                          Re: Dilema

hi. i'm currently on induction, my 7th day to be exact.
just on my 2nd day of induction, we had BBQ with friends - can you believe that??! but i mustered up all the willpower that i got and kept in mind that i''m in this for the long haul.....so i just chose Atkins-friendly foods, and guess what? i didnt realize i had so many choices i went home full and happy!

during the BBQ, i loaded up on grilled chicken, steak, hotdogs, lettuce & other salad veggies (i had my food list with me, so i wont go wrong!) to which i poured a few spoonfuls of salad dressing that i brought along (i came prepared!). i also brought a small box of cheesecake which i made, just in case they devour on desserts, at least i have mine. i also brought along a small thermos of diet rite cola in case i get the urge to have soda (lucky i didnt, so i just had water)

goodluck, i know you can do it!!!!
