  • Announcing my retirement......

Hello all. I'm sorry I have ditched this board for about a month. Here's my story:

Well, I started Atkins in September. I had some ups and downs and cheated a few times. I've lost about 40 lbs total and am happy with those results. But I have become bored with the food choices as well as my love for the wheat group (and bread :yes). I have decided to switch to a low-fat diet. I will miss you all. Without you guys, I would have never made it this far. You are all a big inspiration to me and I will never forget you. Thank you for everything. Farewell. :hug :wave :angelanim :angel :love

If Atkins is working for you, why are you switching to a low fat diet that isn't going to work?

If you're bored with your foods, are you still trying to do induction? If so, switch to OWLS because it will give you more variety and you will still lose weight.

Plus if you've been cheating you have not been doing atkins - cheating is the kiss of death.

And if you want the bread, I believe that the whole atkins friendly bread is allowed - not sure if during OWL but I know in Pre-Maintenence (I'll need to check my book again)

But we are sorry to see you to go and wish you well with your weight loss and your journey through life. :hug

No matter what anyone says (here at ADBB or otherwise), remember that everyone has to do what works for them. I know it's hard to be so young and on a diet constantly. It sounds like your family has been supportive of your new healthier eating habits and I'm sure they will continue to be that way as you make the change to a low-fat diet. My only advice is to keep avoiding refined sugars and white flour. It's easy for us Atkineers to forget that fruit is not the enemy, and I would suggest moving through the OWL ladder if you haven't tried to already but, no matter what path you choose I wish you the best of luck and I honestly hope you find a lifestyle of eating and exercise that accommodates you well. And you can always come back for support, we just may not be able to give any advice.

To succeed at losing weight and getting healthier you must be motivated. You have to want to be slimmer, and healthier more than the foods you are craving. there is nothing wrong with your foods being a bit boring.

Sometimes the foods we crave the most are the foods that we are addicted to. If you find that you can't eat the bread without overdoing it. Please come back to ADBB and get back on the low carb wagon. You are always welcome. We will miss you.

Remember eating low carb keeps you from being hungery and most of us know from experience that eating low fat is harder, because you are hungery most of the time.

I wish you the very best. You will be missed.

Congrats on the pounds you have lost. If you think another method would be more useful, then I wish you luck. Take care, I know with your commitment you had, low fat should pose no trouble for you.

Kutibah, going the low-fat way and eating lots of bread again, might be very difficult for you and you might gain weight again. If you could just realize that on a low-carb diet, you can have low-carb bread (instead of its high carb counterpart that makes one puff up overnight) and fruit in the OWL phase. My cookbooks are full of low-carb alternatives to our old loves. Especially guys seems to be able to handle those foods such as low-carb bread well and still lose weight. The main thing is exercise and eating less and low-carb sure helps with that by curbing the hungries, because fat satiates. Low-fat and extra carbohydrates make it very difficult for the carb-addicted person to lose weight and keep it off longterm, because hunger is what drives one and eventually self-discipline wanes.

Sorry to sound so negative, but I just don't believe in the low-fat lifestyle anymore for someone who is carb-addicted and especially someone who craves bread and wheat products. Too often I have watched my own husband...and back he goes to his higher weight and yet some!! I also watched my very overweight diabetic friend struggle on the diabetic low-fat diet - only to get bigger and sicker! She is now low-carbing and much healthier and skinnier. I don't believe in the diabetic diet anymore either - and my first 2 non low-carb cookbooks were along those lines.

If you see yourself gain just even 10 lbs, run back here quickly, okay? You owe it to yourself to find what works best for you personally. All the best in your endeavour with the switching of WOE!

Prove me wrong on my negativism re low-fat and come back to tell me I was wrong, okay?! I would like to hear a success story from someone like yourself (an Atkid) going back to low-fat and lots of bread and carbs again.

I am a muslim. We had to fast in the month of november. During this fasting we would cannot eat or drink (not even water) from Sunup to Sundown daily. Only at night. I would get very dizzy while doing low-carb during fasting as well as not getting my water intake in. So I decided to pause atkins at that time.

Thanks all for your replies! I will be visiting here every now and then!
