The percentages that were recommended by the Atkins Center and used in the studies done on the Induction phase of Atkins were 65% fat, 5% carbohydrate, 30% protein. But they are just guidelines. It really doesn't matter, especially during your 2-week Induction, if you have 70% fat, 6% carbs, 24% protein one day, or 65% fat, 3% carbs, 32% protein the other.

There are many things you are learning in your first weeks of Atkins. Worrying about percentages will only make your job more difficult. Follow the Acceptable Foods List, eat your veggies, make sure you eat enough food (but don't stuff yourself), drink enough water, exercise if you can, take your supplements... and weight loss will happen.

          I keep learning, of course.

There are times when I am just unable to make the trip to the gym because my days are just too full with projects and obligations. Retirement can be soooo busy.

I am learning it is important, for me, to bring the amount of protein down on those days. That makes sense. Although my projects usually keep me moving, I'm not doing the weights on those days.

As I move down the path I am also learning to trust signs of hunger more, but the fact those rarely occur probably means I could eat less. Still, as the loss is now occurring often enough to keep me encouraged, I'm not wanting to do much tweaking at this point.

            What are your total calories?

A good rule of thumb is to eat at 10-12 times your current body weight.
