  • Ideas to stay full

So it doesn't matter what I have for breakfast, I'm always hungry 2 to three hours later. This morning I had an egg cream. Always fixed differently.
(Always with 2 eggs, spinach and a little protien powder, and then either coffee or almond milk, sometimes heavy cream, I use to add coconut oil but don't anymore. Last week I was adding a bit coconut milk.)
Yesterday I had 6 oz homemade yogurt with 2 strawberries.
Sometimes I'll have bacon and eggs. I usually eat around 6 and by 9 I'm starving.
Anyone have any ideas. Today it seem like I was eating all day long . Some folks have problems with night time munchies. I have a problem before noon. I'm usually fine at night
    Thanks!
My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four. Unless there are three other people.

I used to be like that too - personally, I've found that I need to have about 1/3 of my daily calories at breakfast in order to be able to make it until lunch...breakfast is about 7 am, lunch about 11:30. I also find cheese to be a good snack for me, the rare time that I need it, as it holds my hunger back well.

Cravings are usually caused by spikes in blood sugar... How long are you going in between eating from when you go to bed to when you have breakfast?

Well, I usually have dinner about 5:00. Bed around 9, I usually have breakfast around 6.

Try having more calories during breakfast. I find I need more in the morning then in the evening. I also wake up a little later then you (8:30) and then have lunch around 1 or 2 in the afternoon and usually I'm not even hungry but I know I must eat.

I have a heavy breakfast, small lunch, and medium dinner. This is what works for me.

How many calories would you say is the right amount. At one point I plugged my egg cream in to fitday and it was over 500 calories.
My omelete was actually 600 calories

If you are hungry, then have a protein snack. Your metabolism will be better if you eat smaller meals every two and half to three hours. A string cheese, a handful of pork rinds, or a hard boiled egg are good snacks. I wouldn't try to cram a lot of calories into one meal.

By the way, I found that you can get a giant barrel of pork rinds at Sam's Club for about six dollars...

how much fat does your protein breakfast have? Remember Atkins is a high fat diet, not a high protein one. It's the fat that keeps you satisfied between meals, not the protein as the pop magazines tell you.

If I add allot of cream to eat I stay fuller longer but it's not very good for my weight loss. I can do a couple tablespoons in my coffee but beyond that is not good. So I guess just the eggs for the fat.
But like I said earlier, I can have bacon and eggs (fried in bacon fat) or an omelete with butter and have the same problem.

You might need to plug in your individual meals into fitday and see what the fat content/percentage is.

Personally, I get hungrier sooner if I eat something like an vegetable omelette without an added fat, like cheese. Same thing if I a primarily protein heavy meal.

I read somewhere that 2/3 of our dietary protein is converted into glucose/sugar. So if you eat a meal with, for example, 12 grams protein, you can expect that 8 of those grams will be converted to sugar by your body. So that's the equivalent of 2 teaspoons of table sugar or about 8 cups of lettuce.

So examine your individual meals for the fat content/percentage.

Gluconeogenesis - Glucose Metabolism from Fats, Proteins

Sorry about stopping in the middle of posting, but I got a phone call.

I would suggest to eat when you are hungry. I would eat something about 60+% fat and less than 2-3 grams of carbohydrate. The hunger will pass. Your metabolism has to get used to the change.
Dieting, in itself, is very stressful on our organisms. I believe that before going into a caloric deficit, replace your carbohydrate grams that you previously were eating with fat grams. Then, after your body get's used to burning fat, slowly start lowering your calories until you are burning fat and maintaining muscle.

Thanks Normal. Very helpful. Can I ask how long it takes for your body to get use to burning fat? I've been doing Akins since January. And then before that about 8 months last year.

Everybody's metabolism is different. I started feeling great in about 8-9 days. Yes, you'll be in ketosis possibly within 2-3 days, depending on glycogen stores, but for me it took about 8 days to really start seeing and feeling a difference.

Try this, or here is what I did.

Watch portion size. Weight Watchers and Nutrisystems make a living this way. You can do it for free. By the way, there ain't no free lunch.

Cut the carbs down very low- say 10 per day.

Eat 6 to 8 meals 185 to 200 high protein meals a day, meat, chicken, turkey, lean pork, tuna, salmon, eggs, hard cheese . Those items have around 6 gm of protein per oz.
                              When I was 18 yrs old I weighed 185lbs.
Maybe 10% of that was fat. So lean body mass was 165lbs.
165 X .6 = 99gm of protein needed per day. Get enough so muscles don't get lost with the fat.

Cut out the oil and fats. You get enough with the protein meal.

You want to get your insulin low and keep it there. That is the secret to the Atken diet. Calorie control is next. But if the insulin is low then you can up the calories up a little. Then, like the Dr says increase the carbs 5 gm per week.
By eating more often you are putting in more food before you feel hunger. Keeps the metabolism rate up high. Getting hungry is going to slow it down. I may eat a little more in the morning and a little less in the afternoon so then the calorie count evens up. This calorie restriction is not my own idea. I picked it up from Dr Oz. He says you will live longer.

I'm down 10.5 lb in 8 days and not hungry. I have found a diet pepsi in between meals is a help.

Another thing. At the worst "It's only 2 hours till meal time".

Good luck comes to those who try
