  • Dinner with the In-Laws

Well last night we had our yearly gathering with my in-laws and they decided to cook dinner for us. They knew of my diet because my mother-in-law is also following a low carb diet. I did have some peas and carrots with dinner, and no I am not by that rung yet, but it was just a little.

I opted out of the sugary pie and ice cream (that I brought) and had a handful of berries for dessert with a cup of herbal tea.

Now this is the funny part. They brought some good (and expensive) Frensh wine and offered me a glass. I decided to up my rung change by a day (I was going to go up to rung 5 today). Over the 7 hours I was there I had 2 glasses of wine, not toO bad, the only problem is I am not use to alcohol any more and by the time I was done with half of the first glass I was feeling pretty good.

Now I get home at 3 am and am sober. Sober and hungover! WTF! I am noW the girl who gets drunk off of 2 glasses of wine...I am done with alcohol though, this was my celebration glass(es) and I am going to be moving on next week to Rung 6.

Good thing about it, I resentful started having whey protein shakes in the morning and have lost all of my constipation and water weight form TTOM that was last week. I am down 2 lbs for the first time in a month. Yay protein shakes with extra fiber!

Today we are going to be walking around China town with them and grabbing some Indonesian for lunch.

PS: I failed miserable yesterday with my water intake....I think I got maybe 64oz....

I am wondering about my tolerance to alcohol as well...I haven't had a drink since...well sometime before April 15th, and have no plans to venture into Rung 5 for quite a while (I may skip it & come back to it later). I will have to be very careful the next time I have one (or more) drinks, I don't want to make a fool of myself!

I know what my "tollerance" to alcohol is....so I choose to stay away from it always. I just think of it this way - if I was pregnant would I drink? NO -- well, my health now is as important as when I was pregnant, so I choose not to drink.

I have never been a drinker, but I understand from others that you become a cheap drunk or date. It takes very little to get you drunk and lose your inhibitions, so be careful when you try out rung 5.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Weird, I too have lost my taste for wine, which, when I was eating refined carbs, I really wanted and enjoyed. Empty calories however, and pure sugar. And yes, my last glass of wine (4 oz) left me hung over!

I believe part of the change may be due to not carrying around all that excess water weight from the excess carbs and losing fat tissue. The more fat you have on you, supposedly, the more alcohol you can "hold." Toxins are often stored in our adipose tissue, so it makes sense that as you lose more of that and gain muscle, your tolerance for alcohol also goes down. You got fewer places to store it!

Plus, since alcohol is dehydrating and we don't carry excess water weight, perhaps when we do drink anything, that dehydrating effect is magnified.

But, all in all, it's no loss losing our tolerance for such things. I'd rather gain my health and lose the wine ANY day!

I too am coming to the conclusion that i want to be teetotal - not only am i a cheap date, but i feel awful - hungover - next FEW days - all for ONE glass of vodka/wine! so not worth it. I don't have a problem giving up drink, but it seems people around have a problem with me not drinking....anyone else find that? or is it just the british drinking culture that we seem to have a reputation for?

Bollywud: No, it's here in the US too! Big time. But it varies.

My sister drinks a LOT at family dinners out and at home. She thinks it should be the norm and criticizes me for NOT drinking. My brother-in law, who has NEVER drank any alcohol, criticizes anyone who has even half a drink!

You just can't please everyone and when it comes to drinking, let's face it, we've got NO ONE to please but oursevles.

I am cool with those who want to abstain and those who just want a couple glasses of wine. But with the massive ad campaigns here for alcohol, there is definitely a culture of tipping the cup.

That said, I think it might be more so where you are--but only judging from what I've seen on Eastenders! (Which doesn't mean much, I'm sure.)
