Re: Getting support, and supporting your significant other....

I would give her a break. She (as most people) probably do not realize that corn starch and bread crumbs are like poison to us At the same time I think we often are a bit uptight when we start and food issues become too big. Explain it to her at a time when you can control your emotions and it may work out. It sounds like she is trying.

I had some issues with my family but we've worked them out. Now my DH and DD are like "you cannot eat that" - they know their stuff.

cooking your own food isnt so bad theres some recipes that are extremely easy to do

scrambled eggs with unsalted butter and feta cheese ( no feta cheese till rung 2 )

brocoli fried with unsalted butter & feta cheese cook with lid on for 2 mins then flip and add feta and cook for 1-2 more mins ( no feta cheese till rung 2 ) and use fresh chopped broccoli not frozen bag broccoli

back then i could only add feta cheese to one of my meals scrambled eggs or broccoli if i added it to both my weight loss would slightly slow down or it was just water retaining from the salt in feta try to get a low salt feta cheese when you reach rung 2

This is the first time I've ever been committed to losing weight. Why? Because this is the first time I really feel like I'm doing it for myself. I was always a chubby kid, and my mom's enrolling me in soccer and step class and aerobics and karate just made me feel unloved and resentful. Diet and exercise weren't for me-- they were to make her proud of me. I know she really just wanted the best for me, as I'm sure you want for your wife. Until she feels like she's doing it for herself, though, she's probably not going to commit, no matter how helpful you are.

There are 3 adults living in our house - of the 3 I am the only one on Atkins. We normally eat the same meat - my mother adds whatever she and my husband are going to have and I cook what I am going to eat. I do take a day occasionally to make meals that I can freeze and bring out when they want something I just absolutely don't want to eat or something I won't eat (salmon patties come to mind - yuck!).

In the 8 months I've been doing this I have heard "1 bite won't hurt you" or "you deserve a treat" and "take a couple days and just eat some fun things". I tried to get them to start when I did, and have tried several times since. They don't want to give up good food. That's ok -- I am getting my health back one day at a time - day by day so I can continue to take care of both of them.

When my 2nd husband wanted me to diet I resisted -- I didn't like the fact he was implying I NEEDED to diet. Whether I did or not was not something I thought he needed to decide for me. Maybe that's how your wife is feeling -- pressured into it. Give her time, if she doesn't come around it's best you don't force her.
