    Re: Glass of Wine Geesh.

oh I didn't have the wine even though it was there. To be honest the thought of putting it into my body made me a little sick. They had cold bottles of water so I drank about 12 of those hhheh My staff had wine and they were happy so all in all the whole evening was just fine.

      Good for you, Pete!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

yay for sticking to the woe.

i know this issue is closed, but one of the hardest things of owl for me is finding what i can and cant eat that will still allow me to lose weight and not have cravings. i am starting to see why you should move through owl slowly and through each rung to stay sensitive to how your body reacts. this is why i am beginning to really know by experience why it is so important to progress through this woe as closely as you can to the way that dr atkins says that you should

        so yeah, great job!!

Yellowsun. Even you stand alone on this as Pete stuck to the program. Scroll up? Also, fwiw, red wine is one of the best low carb choices once one reaches rung 5.

Btw, nice job Pete. Empowering, isn't it?

AT tonight's event I'll have my staff there looking/feeling good about the hard work we've been doing. It's kind of a celebratory evening and something just looked right about me holding a glass of wine and spending quality (and well deserved) time with colleagues.

There's something in my background or whatever where I believe that alcohol is a reward or part of socializing. I haven't had a problem with it for the time I've been on Atkins and I'm just being stubborn about it.

Have a great day! Your before/after pics look great- congrats on being a good role model for Atkins.
I'm just imagining that Pete could hear little voices in his head from all who chimed in throughout the "wine tasting" ... no question that we know our Atkins phases inside and out on this board!

Even now on maintenance, I view wine and food within a 1 mile radius of me as a slippery slope. While a glass of wine may be okay ... I trust my judgement not to reach for a carby snack when I don't have that temptation. As we move up the rungs, everyone really has to make their own decisions and judgements.

Glad they had water for you!

Wow Slapshot. Don't know if you were trying to be rude or not but you definately came off that way.

All I did was state my opinion. Lol, but I am fine with standing alone so long as I can stand proud.

Sorry if I came off that way. I wanted to point out that you were advocating a non-atkins position which the original poster even abandoned. It didn't seem like you had read the whole thread, including his report back to us. When I post on my mobile I don't have the ready ability to post emoticons so my tone came across harsher than I intended. My bad.

With respect to the wine, while people are entitled to their own opinions, they're not entitled to their own facts. It's well known that red wine, in moderation, is perfectly fine on rung 5. Dinner/sweet wines and heavy beers (guiness) are to be avoided. That's all I wanted to point out in case others read your post and got wron information...

FWIW I didn't think this comment had any nasty tone.

I don't even know why I read this thread because I don't even enjoy wine. LOL

I think I must have missed something (not unusual for me!)

On another note I'm elated today as I'm a solid 180- 25 pounds total down! I got bug-eyed on the scale this morning looking at that number hahh

My next mini goal is 179 and I've been crawling to get there, and will be soon... Being in the 170s is going to do a job on my ego.

Thank you all for your support it's crucial.
                        Pete

Actually, Dr. Atkins wrote that "wines and other spirits low in carbs" are fine for the Alcohol Rung. The trick is knowing how many carbs each of these wines and spirits contain and accurately measuring them.

A dry red has less carbs per 4 fluid ounces (that's the typical serving size!) than a rose or a fortified wine like dry sherry, but if you know their carb counts you can incorporate them into your OWL menu.

Good point/catch on the beer. I'm not a beer drinker so I didn't focus on it very much.

Also, the trick for me is not knowing what amount of carbs the wine has, but remembering that 4oz is about 1/3 of my normal pour.
