  • How bad do your cravings get during the first few days?

Okay so I don't know about y'all, but I've never really gotten cravings before on atkins. I'm currently on day 3 today of induction. Until yesterday when my boyfriend said he had had a dunkin doughnut's doughnut for breakfast and all the sudden i could taste a glazed doughnut and feel the texture on my teeth. I wanted a doughnut more than i've ever wanted one in my life. I don't even like doughnuts! Or many sweet things for that matter. Do y'alls cravings get that bad or weird lol?

oh yeah for sure, I always crave something crunchy...

    Crisps
    Crackers
    Crunchy toast
    Dry Crunchy cereal

Any and every cake you can think of!

BUT as soon as I hit the peak of Crave-dom...I remember why I am doing this...and then I tuck into a nice home made burger for dinner! YUM.

If you have bad cravings try a little exercise, a hot bath or a hot drink (herbal tea works for me) Or make a legal treat And then be really proud of yourself for getting through it. And remember how happy you are when the scale moves

i think we are all just different

i had no cravings at alll on induction, NOW i am struggling sometimes with cravings (i've been on atkins since June 23rd). but i am finding foods that help to control them. bacon and eggs does this for me. i find that i eat less overall when i have that for breakfast

Pretty Polly, thanks for the tip! Everytime i get a craving now I just go on a walk or do some sit ups and it seems to really be helping i've lost 5 more pounds! I want to try herbal tea as well, what kind do you recommend?

Pinkfusion, I think that eggs for breakfast does that to me too, anytime I eat eggs in the morning I eat a lot less throughout the day. Must be all that protein!

Sorry Diamonds! I didn't think about making anyone else want a doughnut lol!

Yup exercise is a good one - dong a little light exercise helps with cravings

As for herbal teas I usually drink the following

            Caffeine free Green Tea
Fennel tea - good for water retention
Pepper mint tea - good for digestion
Nettle tea - a good morning detox
            Camomile - relax and detress

But there are lots to choose from, just stay away from fruit ones and check the carb count also. Make sure you're not adding sweeteners or anything to them as they really don't need it

My first few days I ate about a bag full of pork rinds every day. Not that I love pork rinds that much, but it was very helpful for having the munchies! I keep them around for when I'm munchy still, but that's not very often at all anymore.

If you're looking for teas, caffeine free vanilla black tea is my favorite. YUM.

Pork rinds have quite a high salt content so could make you retain water

Celery and cream cheese is another one of my favorites (watch the cheese count). AND celery is the sleepy vegetable it has calming properties and helps with water retention

The best tip I've had is that sour counteracts the desire for sweet. Want a doughnut? Eat a pickle!

Apparently if you take a sniff of vanilla essence that is supposed to curb a craving...i'm yet to try this...I'd constantly have the bottle fixed up my nose! lol

i have a tendency to want sweet after onions?? I just keep drinking water.

Plus, if cookies/etc at work, I just tell myself 'no' every time I walk by...for some reason, it works for me.

Re: How bad do your cravings get during the first few days?

Well, I can go threw induction fine usually. I am hungery the first three days or so. Then later the cravings start after a good while on the diet. I'm not good at combating them. I keep cheese or sour cream around and try to stick to a bit of that when I want something I shouldn't have. Shrimp are also good if I have to watch someone eating something yummy. Its because I feel like shrimp are a real treat for me. I have liver down right now. This is a big craving food food for me. Only I like battered fried chicken livers, I'm gonna eat unbattered beef liver. Chocolate is about the only sweet thing I crave. I have protein shakes that are chocolate and some plain chocolate with no sugar. But I end up cheating here and there for certain things I buy out. I'm now deciding to cook more stuff that's legal, and moving up the rungs on OWL.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

                        2nd mini goal: 140!
                        3rd mini goal:135!
                        4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.
