  • Not hungry - eat anyway?

Hi all! Thanks to all of your help I have lost 9 pounds in about 2 & 1/2 weeks and feel great.

The past two days I have NOT been hungry pretty much at all! I don't want to blow my ketosis but I honestly have been FULL off of a few fork fulls of chicken salad (mayo/chicken/diced onion/diced celery/diced hot pepper), 1/2 of a garlic dill pickle and a slice of habanero cheddar with a piece of nitrate/carb/sugar free chourizo. I'm also downing close to 200 oz of water per day. I take walks with the dog daily and hit the gym for strength training nearly every day (the results have been great).

Should I force myself to eat a salad and steak for dinner?

Is this normal? I expect it will pass and I certainly don't want to starve myself (so to speak - I'm really not hungry).

    Thanks!

Whoaaaa...that is a lot of water. Dr. A said do not go more that 6 waking hours without eating something. I do suspect that this will pass and if you do not consume enough calories you will notice a stall in your weight loss as your body enters starvation mode. Make sure to eat your veggies and some protein...and make sure you eat something at least every 6 hours while you are awake....cause when the hunger finally strikes you could be in for a big surprise.

I don't go more than 6 hours without eating something. I'll have a few bites of chicken salad every few hours or a pickle. I just haven't been REALLY HUNGRY enough to cook and eat a steak with a salad for dinner the past two days.

      What is starvation mode?

Re: Not hungry - eat anyway?

If you're not hungry after six hours just have a small snack... you need something to keep your metabolism revved. A few olives and a piece of cheese perhaps....? Don't try to stuff yourself if you don't feel hungry... just a little something.

          Thanks for the input.

Obviously I don't expect this to last very long but my appetite has just been getting smaller and smaller by the day it seems - which I assume can't be TOO bad!

that happened to me in the beginning...for me I thought it was because my cravings for certain foods went away. I've quit snacking, or even wanting snacks most days. Just keep going, stick to plan - you will be pleased.

when I'm really in ketosis, my mouth is horrible - almost a 'tinney?' taste. Definitely have to drink the water. But, 200oz - wow.

Re: Not hungry - eat anyway?

I really do know what you mean about no hunger.. i have been dealing with the no hunger thing for quite some time.. a few months back, i thought, well gee, if i am not hungry, why eat... so, i started back to an old habit of not eating breakfast, after eating something every morning for the first 6 or so months of being on LC WOE... well... I can tell you.. that i learned something... It put my weight loss to a grinding hault. I didn't loose anything for two solid months... so.. i bought this whey protine powder, thought, well, if anything, i will just do a suppliment shake for breakfast. its quick, easy, and doesn't fill me up, but it does satisfy and sustains me longer than not eating.. well, i am here to tell you that i have lost 5 more lbs. since i started this a week ago. EAT, PEOPLE.. don't put your body in starvation mode.. because it does happen. I wish i would have figured it out sooner, but no biggie, as this WOL is just that.. no longer a diet, but new healthier habits for life.
Also pleased to say, that even though, i planned to eat off LCWOE, and have something naughty while i was on the road... i walked circles in a truckstop store, looking for that perfect naughty treat... would you believe, i couldn't do it.. i couldn't just eat garbage and set myself back like that.. i grabbed a cheese stick of all things.. wow, really being a reble there.. huh? Hope you all are finding new and exciting things out about you and your new will to live healthier. Good luck and many losses to you all.

Holy heck. Listen, your kidneys can only process 1L of water per hour, and less if you exercise a lot. So OK, you're not drinking 800oz of water a day (which could kill you) but that is a LOT. You may be flushing electrolytes faster than you can replace them, and you need to make sure you have adequet intake of salt for the amount of water you're drinking.

(You know those drip bags that keep you hydrated in the hospital? Water + Salt = Saline)

You can read about water intoxication here. But neither Wikipedia not I are giving you medical advice; the amount of water you are consuming is such a statistical outlier I would talk to your doctor, nurse, or if you happen to have insurance and there's a healthcare line, I'd get definitive guidance from someone placed to advise you.

And by the way, yeah - that much water would surpress your appetite. It's a long standing tactic for people with annorexia.

Thanks for the great story Lacey. I am definitely making sure I eat - perhaps I am actually eating 4 or 5 small meals in a way...but I gotta fit in some more veggies.

Darlingbri - I def get my salt lol I love it. I am simply drinking as much water as I feel like and apparently this eating style has made me VERY thirsty lol
