Typically I have meat for breakfast, like leftover pork chops, bacon, and fresh sausage. Today I changed things up a bit and bought a roll of 80/20 ground turkey and fried it in patties with salt, pepper, and sage. I put 2 patties (about 2.5 inch rounds) and a boiled egg in boil for each day of the first half of the week.

For lunch I usually have leftovers from the night before's dinner which is always meat usually pan fried in canola or olive oil (sometimes I do the parmasean coated chicken strips) or grilled (steak chicken pork---all fresh with salt pepper season salt or any seasoning I can find that is only herbs and spices but no illegal stuff). I also try to have a a little less than cup of veggies (my favorites are cabbage fried with bacon, yellow squash fried with bacon, okra with bacon, broccoli, cauliflower, or kale, and sometimes lettuce, bell peppers, or cucumbers with a small amount of sugar free ranch dressing. I always buy the salt cured or no sugar added bacon. (Today I had sliced turkey breats about 3 ounces, and a cup of romaine).

You can tell what I eat for dinner cause it is what I use as leftovers from above. Tonight I am making corned beef and cabbage. So I will probably not eat my 2 cups of salad veggies today. Occasionally I eat small (like 1/4 amounts of tomatoes, or an ounce of extra sharp cheddar, or an ounce of cream cheese (but usually no more than 2 ounces of cheese in a day unless it is a rare occasion), sometimes I may have half an avacado (then I usually eat less veggies), but I use no sweetners, drink at least 100 ounces of water and exercise at least 5 times a week (which right now is brisk walks or hiking...7 miles today..woot woot).

Like I said I have read the book at least 20 times and am doing so again from cover to cover. The way I read the induction rules are that there are maximum amounts of carbs, specific and maximum amounts of veggies, and other guidelines to follow...but that the veggies are a eat up to this amount each day and vary what you eat a little as long as you stay with in the other rules. I don't gorge myself and it is rare when I eat more than 4-6 ounces of meat at a meal..I'm just not that hungry. All I was trying to get at is that some members take it that Dr. A said you had to eat exactly this many veggies and I intrepretted it to mean you can eat up to this amount of veggies (and kinds) along with sensible protions of fresh meat or no sugar added meat (watching for hidden carbs actually), but only eat until you are satisfied, not stuffed. Kind of like the extra foods that you can eat...but are not required to. I have seen people, for a better lack of words) get on to someone who may have only eat 2.5 cups of veggies in a day when reviewing their menus.

But like I said I am re-reading the book again cover to cover...and I will follow the book as I read it (since that is what we are aiming at anyway..right). I really do follow all the other RULES as you guys have it on here..except I vary my veggie intake...especially when I see the scale not moving for weeks at a time (either up or down to the limit based on what I had been eating). I typically go down a half pound to a pound then up a pound or two the next day and then down 1.5 to two the following day...until I stall and it may be 2 weeks before I see the scale go down again.

BTW---this time I am using fitday and my % are very close to being dead on...like 1 % off either way.

The veggies aren't the part that are going to make you or break you during induction - or any other phase, if you look at it logically. If you're slowing down during induction, cutting your veggies out doesn't really make any sense.

        20 grams of carb = 80 calories.

So, by eating only 10 grams of carb, you're really only cutting down by 40 calories.

Type 10 sentences, give someone a dirty look, think a happy thought, and cough and you'll burn 40 calories - but by avoiding those 40 calories in veggies you short yourself the nutritional value & fiber of said veggies.

While we don't count calories, calories absolutely *do* count. Gummed up during induction? Eat an ounce less of cheese or meat and keep up on the veggies.

I don't know anyone that got fat or stayed fat because of a cup of salad veggies.

I love my salad veggies. I could eat salad every meal of every day. But I do not always get in what is suggested on this board either. Just depends on how much of on the go I am doing that day.

I am reading the book while out on medical leave from cover to end so wish me luck!!

RE: the part of the book about eating 3 cups of veggies during Induction.

In Chapter 14, subheading "How to Do OWL"

Second, whereas during Induction you ate your protein and fat foods, plus three cups of salad and other veggies (and the special foods such as avocado, olives and sour cream), OWL allows much more choice.

Re: Something has been bothering me...

thanks chauber ~ I always find it interesting to see how other people's daily diets work. I think I use recipes a lot that include a veggie component (like porkchops with onion or steak w/shrooms & onions) so that I am always eating the veggies almost without realizing it. And I have a salad almost every day for lunch (two cups romaine) with different protein toppings depending on my mood. So for me the veggies are omnipresent...

I also read DANDR to say that induction requires 3 cups of veggies a day...I think the "may" simply introduces the either/or choice we make (either 3 cups of salad veggies or 2 cups & 1 cup other). But if what you are doing is working for you then that's great!
