Hi everyone!

Just wondering if anyone here is taking Adipex? I started taking it a week ago and am really liking it. I have had issues with binge eating for a really long time and while taking this medication I have had no desire to do so. I completely understand a pill is not magic but for now I'm using it as a tool to get me on the right track.

Three years ago I was on Atkin's, lost 70 pounds and went off. I gained back every pound I lost and am getting back on track. I started 5 days ago and have lost a total of 6 pounds so far. I'm feeling fantastic and will be going back to the gym today!

I've never used any medications befoer to assist - but I can understand for particular issues, it would be a great asset to get you jump-started.

How long do you plan on using this until you wean yourself off?

I remember being little and seeing diet pills in my Mother's drawers - after being told I was so fat for so long, I seriously thought about trying them. I was 12. And at most weighed in at 120 lbs.

That's about as far as I've gone to ever use medication, but like I said - I can understand it. Congrats on your weight loss so far!!

I do not plan on staying on this for a long period of time. My doctor thought it may help with my weightloss since my Thyroid is pretty bad. I take medication for my Thyroid but it's still tough to lose.

I'm in Nursing School and the stress has been overwhelming so I turn to food and LOTS of it, so much that I'm in a lot of pain afterward. So far Adipex has controlled the urge to want to binge and I can focus a lot better.

The reason I was asking is because I am wondering how you are going to control your appetite once you go off the pills. I mean, both school and your thyroid problem (are you hypo or hyper?) will still be there to deal with.

I'm sure you've been told this before, but ketosis has an appetite suppressant effect. I hope your doctor is monitoring your diet closely, because not eating enough (from ketosis+pills) will negatively affect your thyroid.

FYI, every woman I've ever known that took Adipex ended up getting pregnant within 3 cycles afterwards. Just thought I'd warn you.

I am hypo. I absolutely know I can't use this pill as a crutch. It's helping me realize I don't need to binge anymore and I can actually stop eating a meal when I feel comfortable, not stuffed. When I wean off, of course it may be hard but it also may not be. I understand I have some underlying issues when it comes to my eating habits, I binge when I'm stressed or depressed and that's not good. For me Ketosis has only stopped the craving for sugar which is a good thing.

I started taking phen a while back. I'm sorry but the appetite surpressant I hear so much about never happened to me. I needed something to get my eating under control. I'm afraid you won't find much support here for diet pills. I see nothing wrong with it. I mean people pop pills for all kinds of things. To help with not smoking, to get pregnant, not get pregnant, so I see no difference if a person needs help with dieting. Anyway, good luck to you and if you need to talk, pm me.

You all know where I stand about diet pills, so I don't have to write it down.... the horse it already dead.

But regarding the appetite suppressant effect of ketosis, some people do experience it to the point where they need to eat "by the clock" to avoid undereating. For some people, on the other hand, the effect is not this extreme. Furthermore, the appetite suppressant effect does not last forever --- as one increases his/her carbs, watching serving sizes slowly transfers to something that needs to be controlled by the brain, rather than by the stomach. This does not mean you'll starve, but it does take a conscientious effort and common sense to choose what and how much you eat. It is also perfectly normal to have days when you feel very hungry and eat "a lot", and days when you need to follow the 6-hour rule to keep your blood sugar stable and avoid overeating at your next meal. Also, undereating, either calories or carbs, can cause hunger.

I haven't been here in a while and thought I'd visit this thread I started to report that everyone who said taking diet pills were bad was absolutely right! I suppose I wanted something to help me control my binge eating but a week into taking Adipex, I started to experience horrible panic attacks. Since the birth of my oldest who is almost 11, I have experienced severe PPD along with anxiety attacks. It took me 2 years and lots of therapy to finally get it under control and now I'm back at square one because of the Adipex. After doing some research on this drug, I found that in rare cases it has been found to cause depression along with suicidal thoughts.

I'm going back to the old way of doing things and if that means I have to control my binges by having my husband lock me in a room with nothing than I'm willing to do just that! Atkin's worked for me before and I'm willing to give it a go for good this time. I will be 30 next year in September and I refuse to leave my 20's unhealthy and severely overweight!

I am also one who will not take weight-loss or appetite suppressant medications. My friend's sister got a nice settlement for her experience with phenphen, but the cheque was not enough to give her a new heart. I admit I know absolutely nothing about this drug, but at 46 years of age I have seen many of these diet drugs come and go, each promising, many permanently damaging. Just makes me nervous.

Ketosis has proven to be my natural appetite suppressant as does drinkiing lots of water and holding myself accountable here on the boards. Best of luck to you, though.

I have 2 friends who toook adipex and did very well One lost a hundred pounds gained back 30 but has kept the rest off for 2 years. The other friend lost 60 and gained back 10 also 2 years ago. I know for them it worked and improved their quality of life, in losing the weight both of them improved thier blood pressure and thier cholestrol dropped by 30 points a piece. Lets just hope they dont end up with the bad side affcects that affected so many people like phen phen and redux.
