Whats the fastest way to make a hard boiled egg?

I'm at target.com looking at the egg makers and non of the descriptions tell me how long it takes and non of the reviewers are telling me either.

I pop a few eggs in a pan. Turn on the stove. Walk away for 30mins. This is how I'm doing it now. Any less time and I end up with soup. I totally suck at making hard boiled eggs though...

In my opinion nothing makes my body drop weight faster and more dramatically than eggs. I lose crazy weight with eggs.

    Made some today actually.

In a large pot, put a single layer of eggs in the bottom. Fill with enough water to cover the eggs with an inch or two of cold water.

Bring the water to a boil for one or two minutes

Cover and turn off the heat for 12-15 minutes (if you are making a bunch sacrifice one at around 10 minutes. To check the progress)

Immediately transfer to an ice water bath.

    Peel.

    Eat.

    Get thin.

I use the Julia Child method:

Place eggs in a pan of cold water ... enough water so the eggs have lots.

Bring water to a boil, uncovered.

Turn off heat, move pan to another burner, cover and let sit for 17 minutes.

Then drain and run under cold water.

I sometimes add salt to the water ... mostly I don't.

I make 5 at a time. I think it takes about 7 mins to get the water to boil? and then "turn off the heat for 12-15 minutes" Equals 22 mins. I do an extra 8 mins cause its like an insurance policy for me...otherwise I may end up with 3 ok eggs and 2 soupy.

So far we've all taken about 30 MINS to make eggs.

Is there a magic, made from space alien technology egg maker that can change the way I live?

Too much heat and the proteins in the white will get rubbery.

Too little and the yolk will never set.

It's a combination of the right temperatures for the right amount of time. I can't imagine any gadget that will shave any significant amount of time off the process.....

But there must be some super secret Nasa experimental technology to this.

With hard boiled eggs, I don't eat the yolks and I don't care if the egg gets rubbery. Its the half formed egg emerging from the shell like Jeff Goldblum from lord of the flies that bugs me (pun intended).

I'm sorry but I can't go into that any farther as it's classified.

Well, another way would be to buy the already hard boiled ones at the grocery store.

I put the eggs in cold water - just enough to cover the eggs - no cover on the pot -and i shut the gas 10 minutes after the water boils and rinse the eggs w/cold water. The more eggs > the more water > the more time it takes-----generally six eggs take about 20 minutes or so.

Well, here is what I do... I put water in a pot and cover it with a lid (makes it boil faster) then I add the eggs (with a spoon!) cover for a min just til the water boils again... boil 10 mins without the lid (maybe if I left the lid it would be done sooner, will try next time and let you know)... yep that is all. Then drain off the water, move the eggs in the pot to help them crack, then place in a bowl of ice cold water (and yes, add about 5-6 ice cubes). For me, they are perfect, whites done, yellow done, and they don't have that ugly off green around the yolk either.

Hope that helps. So for me about 15-20 mins and I do 5-7 at a time.

No idea how long it takes, but I boiled 16 eggs yesterday and it was very easy thanks to my egg timer. You put eggs in a pot, cover with water (no lid), add the timer and put on the stove at a med-high heat. Come back periodically to lift the timer out with a slotted spoon until you get to your desired "done-ness". Perfect eggs every time.
