This is EXACTLY how I make them, and they always come out perfectly.

If you think it takes too long, maybe follow the instructions as given, and then when you cover and turn off the heat, go do something to keep busy, maybe take your shower, or do some exercise, so you won't notice the waiting time. That's what I do. I never thought of it as taking too long. If the eggs are coming out "soupy", possibly you are not bringing your eggs to a boil first, so when you are turning off the heat, they didn't get enough time to cook.

Check out this youtube. The cook lets them sit a few minutes longer, that's ok. 10 minutes-15 minutes, won't matter. Also, after I run them under cold water after cooking, I usually add some ice cubes to the water for a few more minutes to really cool the eggs down.

This thread is cute. Maybe we need a monthly "egg boiling" challenge at ADBB?

          I use a 7-egg boiler gadget.

I never have taken any notice of how long it takes, as I just get on with something else till it beeps to say it is done.

If I remember, I will try to make a note next time I use it.

I use my Boiley when I want to make a quick single hard-boiled egg. A few minutes in the microwave and presto! Plus, it is very cute too.

                Got this from Julia Child...

Place cold eggs in cold water. Bring to a boil. Cover and remove from heat. Set timer for 15 mins. Done.

                  ...A challenger appears....

This is awesome..............is there any way I could pop 4 of these in the microwave for like x amount of mins? The more eggs you put in, the more cook time you have to have right?

Honestly If I could get 4 eggs hard boiled in about 10 mins I'd have to say...

Even if I just pop 2 in at a time...this is a winner. I'm going to look for this...

                      Re: Fastest boiled egg

                      Fried egg vs. boiled egg?

When I fry an egg, I use enough non-stick spray so the eggs don't stick to the pan and thats it to make eggs in the pan. As far as the yolks, if I make 5 eggs I'll use all egg whites and only 2 yolks. I don't use oils, butter in making these and eat the eggs with a little salt/pepper for taste.

How does this compare to boiled eggs? When I make boiled eggs I toss out the yolks and only eat the whites with a tiny bit of salt/pepper or small amount of ultra low carb sauce for flavor.

Which is better? Thank you all for your help..

Why do you reduce the amount of yolks and the fat? Is it because you don't like them?
Remember, fat is our friend on Atkins... one of the terrific "perks" of this way of eating!

I guess I worry about the cholesterol and just do this to play it safe, though I don't believe this is a deal breaker either way.

I asked this question on a fitness forum and was told basically the way I do the eggs that there is no difference (more or less) in the final product..in terms of its affect on my diet.

I believe I can fry egg(s) faster then boiling/cooling down eggs I'll just fry from now on.

                          Thanks all

Being a Russian Spy from Australia...my baba always said to put a tiny pin hole in the fat bottomed side of the eggs b4 boiling them...thus breaking the air bubble and causing the shell not to break...I guess that was important for Easter time when they painted them *shrugs*

I heard Rachel Ray recommend this (I guess she got it from Julia Child) and have been doing it ever since.

Best thing is low maintenance and less eggs crackin in the raging boiling water. If you just do 8-10 minutes you get "almost" hard boiled eggs (the way I love them!)

In that case, I'd agree with your fitness forum that the way you do them there's so little difference between boiling or frying you might as well cook the eggs the way that's faster, more convenient for you, and that you like.
