I would like to add that there is always someone saying that this or that is bad for you. If we listened to all of the warnings out there then we would be walking around with oxygen masks on all the time because the air we breathe is killing us. I was told lose weight or die. I am healthier than I was when I was 5. I am here to stay.

Or you! Take a look at yourself! It always amuses me when someone tells me that us Atkineers will die of heart attacks from all the meat we eat and I just want to show them your picture and say, "Does this look like someone who is about to have a heart attack anytime soon? Does this look like someone with a cholesterol problem?"

        Well it worked for me.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
        he said, 'Don't count calories.'

The main error in the is in what has already been quoted regarding gorging. What they don't get is eat until hunger is satisfied, no more.

All I have to say is "READ THE BOOK".

(Like that hasn't been said around here before. LOL)

This diet is not for everyone. It requires an enormous amount of dedication, willpower, and complete commitment. I read much of the information on the site you referenced and much of the information is far outdated and taken out of context. I could find a hundred credible doctors that will say Atkins is a healthy way to live. I have done a lot of research into this way of life as have many of the others on this board and at least in my case the health benefits FAR outweigh (pun intended) the minimal dangers. I hate to see anyone leave the board because of missinformation like that presented in that website but to each his or her own. I for one will enjoy my new found health and never look back.

I was directed by a Senior Medical Officer of the British Army:

              "Do Atkins. It works."

Six months into the programme I saw him again. My weight was formally recorded and my bloodworks done again.

The medical advice then offered was:

"Your weight is no longer a medical problem. How much more you loose is down to personal preference."

The blood pressure figures are in my signature. One of the nurses was a bit twichy about too much proein and kidney problems. The Senior Medical Officer did not share her comcerns.

The SMO was right: it works - it works extremely effectively - but you must stick to the rules.

This website has been around for a while. I think it's one of the ones that are sponsored by PETA or PETA supporters.

They accuse Atkins and the other low carb people of "picking and choosing research", well....This link is to the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons.

If you read the section called "Misleading Abstract and Faulty Trial Protocol", it makes you wonder who's doing the "picking and choosing".

And if you read this link from the same medical journal

It explains who has the financial motive to pick and choose research to support a bogus theory.

I am amazed at how much misinformation about Atkins exists! And no matter how many people refute this garbage, it just keeps coming back. But I can imagine that this is easy to believe and swallow when you have not lost weight on the diet. That frustration alone makes it easier for a person to believe any Atkins nay-saying that comes down the pike.

While Atkins does not work for everyone - because not everyone has the same body chemistry - it has improved many people's lives and health. To ignore this is folly.

I just did some research on the doctor who is behind the Atkins Exposed web site. After reading the web site and noticing the praises of a vegetarian diet, I immediatly suspected this doctor is associated with PETA.

Sure enough. He's an animal rights activist!

Get a load of this description of one of his seminars:

"As more and more mass demonstrations for progressive social change erupt across the globe, activists increasingly need the knowledge and skills to take care of themselves and others. In this hands-on interactive workshop, Dr. Michael Greger addresses topics such as preparing an action, staying safe and sensible at an action, how to get medical care for injured demonstrators and what to do after an action for physical and mental well-being. He will cover how to protect oneself from tear gas, pepper spray and rubber bullets, as well as teach everyone how to treat chemical weapons exposure. 60 min. Target audience: Activists. "

The guy is a nut. And the poor poster of the original message probably has no clue who he is or why he is against the Atkins WOE.

Here is another atkins bashing site http://www.thedietchannel.com/atkins.htm
They go as far as to say a 16 year old girl died from electrolyte imbalance "probably due to Atkins" They also say that when you go off the diet you gain all your weight back. They make some quotes from atkins that I do not remember seeing I will have to go back and look in DANDR. They also say that it doesn't use all the foods that prevent cancer. Oh well we are all dying anyway right? It is just a matter of when. These are the types of places that make people say I am jepordizing my health. People use the internet for info. and we have sites like this it is ashamed.

Did anyone think it was odd that that nbc special report transpript never mentioned bloood sugar and it's effect and importance with this wov?

oh and to the guy who found that bogus site and is quiting the diet... good going dude *sarcasM*. You are swayed to easily. Scientists hate to be wrong. They probably hated it when they found out the earth really wasn't flat. Well, I see my stomach becoming flatter instead of round so it's atkins for me.

You know, picking a diet is not like picking a religion. There are more ways than one of doing it. This one is just easier in the long run than others.
As far as it being unhealthy is totally rubbish.... eating rice cakes and forcing yourself to like them is unhealthy.
