  • should I quit?

I don tthink this is working! ughhh

last week I started at 120 on Tues got to 116 friday
    and today I'm 117.6?!

I have been strict. no sugar at all even.
    only things on induction

what should I do? does this mean I'm one of those people where atkins doesn't work? or do I keep trying.

    Re: should I quit?

Why do you think Atkins doesn't work?

One's weight will always fluctuate ... even on maintenance!

If you're expecting to have every day be a loss in weight, then you're going to be disappointed on any "diet".

Time to look at the other aspects of doing Atkins!

The beginning of Chapter 12 has some questions ... I suggest you look over them.

      Re: should I quit?

I agree with J. I find that when I'm your size my weight fluctuates even more.

We also can't always go by the scale. Sometimes we are losing inches and not pounds.

For me, this time, it's not soo much about loss and it is how good I truly feel being off all the sugar and carbs. It's amazing how much less I sleep and how much more I move. I enjoy this way of eating also because I'm eating so many healthy veggies. I know I'm eating healthy and I don't want to go back to the old lifestyle.

I could never survive low fat, I'd starve to death and I don't care to eat so many preservatives and chemicals.

      Hang in there.

Wow.... 3lbs on a small girl like you should be a big difference. Smaller people tend to lose weight slower. But if I was 120 and lost 3 ponds in 1 week, I would be so happy. Congrats. As for weighing yourself... don't do it every day, try to stick to once a week. Did you measure yourself prior and now? Did you lose any inches?

If immediate weight loss that follows your unrealistic schedule is what you want to see in order to believe that Atkins works... then no, it's not working. This is simply not how Atkins or any other WoE works.

I have the feeling that you are looking for a quick fix. Atkins is not about losing a fraction of a pound every day... and weight loss is not everything. Some days you'll see no weight loss. Some weeks you'll see no weight loss. And there can even be months with no weight loss. And there will be days and weeks with weight gain too.

As I have said before... you have very little weight to lose (your goal is 110 lbs). There is no reason for you to do Induction in the first place. Your last 5-10 lbs should be lost in Pre-Maintenance. And between Induction and Pre-Maintenance, there is OWL.

I have been strict. no sugar at all even.
          only things on induction
The scale is just a tool. It won't reward you every time you step on it just because you've been "strict".

If you post your menu, we can take a look.

But you should be doing OWL, in my opinion.

                    Re: should I quit?

Have you posted any actual daily menus of what you have eaten for review by those who know Atkins? It seems from some of the posts, you may not have read the book thoroughly. This board welcomes the moans and groans, but is also very helpful if you supply them with information. You can't "yo-yo" in your food choices and expect consistency.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

                      Re: should I quit?

You must be hitting me on a bad PMS day so be forewarned. I usually give more of a warm and fuzzy response. Or maybe it is because I have to fight for every ounce to come off. Sorry, but it seems to me you have been given a lot of good advice in this and your other thread and you just don't want to hear it. So I am guessing that you want to hear one of 2 things:

                      1) Yes you have been doing something wrong and that is why your weight went up a pound. If you just (stand on your head when you drink your water or chop your food up into smaller pieces or dip everything you eat in mayo) you will have the scale drop a pound a day, every day. Sounds good doesn't it but it isn't going to happen.

                      or
                      2) You are right Atkins doesn't work fast or easy so you should give up, go buy yourself a great big pizza or a half gallon of ice cream and just give in. What's the use? I mean all that work for 2 pounds this week why it will take you several months to reach goal. Who wants to wait that long for success? Not the right answer either is it. Things worth having are worth the work and the wait.

Weight loss, especially when you have less to lose, is not easy not quick and never linear. Those are the facts. You have had more success on the scale in a week than I get in a month. Stop whining and get it into your head that this is a process that takes some time and effort. Rant over.

                        Naw it's all good.
I come here when I'm feeling discouraged to get kicked in the butt. I just need that every so often and here is where I can get it. Kick in the butt and encouragement which is what I need to keep going because you are right - I have unrealistic expecations that needs to be put in check!

                        so thanks!
And hopefully you guys can bear with me when I'm there and just put me in my place.
Today I didn't give up ... I kept going cuz of you guys! so thanks.

                              Re: should I quit?

Giving up is not a good decision, I'm glad you didn't choose that option. As far as I'm concerned giving up is non-negotiable......not an option. Believe me, before starting to eat this way over a year ago....I gave up more times than I can count and guess what.....I ended up bigger, more ashamed, discouraged and terribly unhealthy.....so believe me, giving up gets you no where other than where you DON'T want to be or feel.

Keep going and re-read the great advice that has already been given to you. Work on your patience (believe me you're going to need it) and enjoy making this way of eating your life.....not something that you can use as a quick fix to shed a few pounds....it doesn't work that way. You don't have a lot of weight to lose, having said that...10, 20, 30 lbs as far as I'm concerned is like having to lose 100 lbs....it will take the same determination, dedication and patience to achieve. You will have great days and you will have bad days....it's the bad days that will require the most determination and will power to get through.

I know you can do this if you start "living" eating this way and make it your lifestyle. There is no race...and yes, I have become frustrated MANY times with myself believe me! However, I have not gotten to the point where I've entertained the thought of quitting.....and I challenge you to do the same.

Instead, turn your energy into making sure each day you do EXACTLY what you need to do to become healthier....eat what you're suppose to, take your vitamins, drink plenty of water, fit some form of exercise into your day and work on getting the proper amount of sleep. Focusing on these daily goals will keep you busy and motivated! Each day you can look back, examine how it went and feel great and accomplished because you did exactly what you needed to do to achieve another step closer to great health. If for some reason you didn't have a good day, you can evaluate what happened and make the appropriate changes.

Hang in there and congratulations on not giving up.

Stay in touch and let us all know how things are going for you.
