    Re: fat

Atkins is a high fat diet so eating fried fish would be fine.

      Re: fat

You need to have another look at the books. Or at least in the stickies on this board. 1 tsp of butter = silly thinking. Who can get think only eating one tsp of butter????

          Re: fat

Pure fat is different than cream. Cream is limited to 3 oz during Induction.

            Not on Induction.

When you're on the diary rung, you could add a bit more ...

            Why isn't 3 Tbs. a day enough?

              Re: fat

i think i eat about 1/7 or 1/6 a pound of unsalted butter a day depends on the day

when i cook broccoli you need to add alot so the broccoli absorbs it

its gotta be unsalted butter cause salted butter in large amounts is grose

Actually, it's limited to 2-3 Tbs.

                The "ounces" is a typo.

                  Re: fat

I don't think it is a typo. They did not correct the "mistake" in any of the editions they came out with (and it has gone through a lot of editions) and in the book they published after that one called Atkins Essentials they allow for 3-4 ounces of cream. If it was a mistake the first time why duplicate it again?
But all that being said, some people would certainly stall with that much cream. Atkins added the extra in the special food catory (where avocado and olives are) with the warning to proceed carefully.

                    Re: fat

Well, in 2002, Colette Heimowitz said in an interview that it was a typo:

"Question: I would ask about the discrepancies in the book, i.e., for Induction it says you should have no more than 2-3 tablespoons of heavy cream yet a couple of paragraphs later it says 2-3 OUNCES. ...

Answer: You are correct there is a discrepancy in the book. The correct total amount of heavy cream is 2-3 tablespoons or 1-1.5 oz. If someone is following Induction strictly, the additional cream (.5-1 oz) extra should not have a major impact on the program."

                    Hope that helps!

i know when i had whipping cream near the start of the diet it stalled my weight loss

although i would have way to much of it so i just had to cut it out completely

                        Re: fat

I use regular salted butter - I don't salt any of my food (haven't in 30 years) so what salt I get in the butter isn't enough to push me over the amount I should be getting daily.

well i use salted butter sometimes too like when cooking a steak or some types of other foods that i dont use alot of butter on

but when i cook broccoli or scambled eggs i like adding tons of butter which has to be unsalted then and i also add feta cheese to it which already has some salt xD

My reading of DANDR is that the larger amount of cream mentioned is in the special category section, where Dr Atkins is saying we can choose one of the extra foods from the list as an occasional addition to the normal induction amounts.

                            Special Category Foods

To add variety, each day you can also eat ten to twenty olives, half a small avocado, one ounce of sour cream or three ounces of unsweetened heavy cream, as well as two to three tablespoons of lemon juice or lime juice. But be aware that these foods occasionally slow down weight loss in some people, and may need to be avoided in the first two weeks. If you seem to be losing slowly, moderate your intake of these foods.

So now and again we can choose to have a dessert with more cream than the 2-3 tablespoons, or we can choose to have half a small avocado, or we can choose to add an ounce of sour cream to a recipe or as a garnish or we can choose to eat some olives as a snack or add them to a cauliflower pizza topping.

So the different amounts mentioned in the question are not a 'discrepency' but an occasional allowable optional extra which some people will be able to add and others will find upset their losing.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I think some people have relative selective memories about stuff. In 2004 she approved an Atkins book on induction that allowes for 1/2 cup of cream. Make up your mind already
This is why I stick to the book. I don't have to deal with people whose opinion is swayed by who ask them questions.
