Coconut oil is the best (IMO) oil with which to cook. It is lest reactive to heat/light and doesn't tend to cause any inflammation issues in our bodies once heated. The taste/smell is mild, though I'll admit, if you're sensitive to coconut, it might not be for you.

My top (and only) two choices are: coconut oil and butter. I don't like heating olive oil for cooking.
Thanks for the info. I had no idea solvents would/could be added to oils. Since Atkins Ive been using butter but I still use oil for my family. I think it's time for a switch!

I use butter only. Crisco was invented as an alternative to wax in candles. Got it's name from CRYStalized Cottonseed Oil. Once it was realized they could market it as a food stuff, they came out with a cookbook showing all the ways you could use it, and we were hooked thinking it was healthier then lard.

      YUCK.

I use olive oil rarely, but mostly it's butter when I'm frying, sauteeing, or just greasing something.

        OOOHHHhhhhh!!!!!

I just went to my alternate store for my Jicama purchase. They don't have any either!!! The manager told me they may not carry it anymore, because I seem to be the only person buying it, and the rest of the jicama are going "bad."

He suggested I go to an international vegetable store. We have many nearby, but I hate to drive 15 minutes to buy one veggie!!! Guess I will have to!

Grapeseed oil is a very good oil with a high smokepoint (meaning it is good for frying). It has a very neutral flavor which can be used in a variety of recipe types.
